This was probably due to the germans pooling all their forces into one area of the coast for the defense on Omaha beach (and other areas)
It happened when the allies invaded southern France(The allies did it after D-Day). So, the germans had all there soldiers on the northern coast and there were only very few soldiers defending.

However shortly after D-day, the 76mm variant started rolling off the line and made its way to Europe. They weren't as common as the 75mm (over 33,600 75mm vs over 10,800 76mm).
Oh and that 75mm is drastically underrated it could penetrate Panzer 3s or 4s at a pretty good range with AP however against panther it could only penetrate the side which although is easier then it sounds is still do able and could only penetrate a tigers back but at that point they’d be calling air or arty support
