      Thanks for the video. Skipped through it, because I could see the performance level immediately, but still, I appreciate the effort you put into it. And it was exactly the sort of info I was looking for. 👍
      Would love to see a video of an Android tablet that can offer a really great experience, without costing the earth. (I will go and check your previous uploads now) :)

    For myself, I'm a new user of nomad sculpt since 3 days only. I bought a simbans picassotab xl for 250 euros sensitive stylus include (I'm living in Belgium) and that works perfectly at this time. I'll see what happen in the future with more complex topology or light and painting.

    Personally, i didn't like the iPad Pro for anything sketch or 3D model related. I now use a Samsung S8 11" (8GB + Snapdragon 8 Gen 1) and its been a breeze in performance. The S-Pen is so much better in my opinion and feels like an actual pen/pencil.

      @@SouthernGFX , Im a hardcore iPad user by the way. But, when it comes to sketching, sculpting and 3D painting, I found that the Samsung S7 or newer is the better investment because they come with a very nice pen and this makes them a full complete package right out of the box while also being reasonably priced. The Samsung S6 Lite also comes with a Pen for only $300 in some places in America. Apple might grab my interest again one day but lately its been hard to even look in their direction.

      Opinions aren't facts, nor truths. I'm a professional comic book artist who used to work for Marvel and DC and I've been using digitizer pen pads and tablets since the mid-90s, so it's been nearly 30 years of extensive professional experience by now. I can tell you that the iPad pencil is objectively NOT better than Samsung's Wacom-based option in performance terms and is definitely, objectively and unarguably better in practical ones, being completely non-dependent on battery charge and completely interchangeable and compatible with older models of s-pens of all shapes and sizes going back as far as the ones included in the very first Galaxy Note phones and tablets. So no, the Apple pencils aren't better than Samsung's, not in performance not in tech. You might like them better for your own undisputable reasons, something I can understand and do support by principle, but beyond that let's be honest and call stuff for what it really is.

    You get used tablets in good shape, much better deal,just make sure that it is not too old because of security updates and if possible, ask about the condition of the battery.
    An actual active pen is imho a must.

    • @captureinsidethesound
      @captureinsidethesound Год назад

      The fix is to simply not update it. Security updates are manipulative and deceiving, designed to cripple the performance and force you to upgrade. Otherwise, sales from Android devices such as Samsung would decline. Apple and Google (Pixel) have proven this time and time again. I still have a Pixel 4 and old iPhone 6 still running good as new even after most updates. The ONLY updates you should do is if an application requires one on an API level to enable/add a feature. That's why its important to read the update info.

    • @Flix-f6q
      @Flix-f6q Год назад

      With an active pen, you can also make accurate scribbles and sketches in a drawing app,a passive pen does not recognize short lines. And active pens have Palm rejection. Both points are a .huge advantage for your workflow and performance.

    I wonder how well Nomad would perform on A Galaxy S9 Ultra tablet.

    • @oscarjimenezgarrido7591
      @oscarjimenezgarrido7591 10 месяцев назад

      Exceptionally well. On the S8 Ultra Nomad's performance is indistinguishable from that on the highest-spec iPads available, so the S9 won't be any different in general terms - and undoubtedly better in many individual aspects than the S8, by sheer logic.

  • @TiagoRKrummenauer

    Amazing video! I'm looking to buy a tablet to use Nomad, but my budget allows me to buy 1 iPad Pro M2 12.9 with 8GB of ram or a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 14" with 16GB, which one do you recommend?

    • @oscarjimenezgarrido7591
      @oscarjimenezgarrido7591 10 месяцев назад

      Since you're asking for educated opinions, there goes mine - it depends.
      I'm a professional comic book artist with 25 years of experience with digital and in my opinion, AS A 2D PROFESSIONAL ARTIST, get the S8, hands down, and install Krita on it the very minute you get it in working order.
      As a 3D UNPROFESSIONAL GAME MODDER, tho', there's a few more, and more practical options for modeling, uv mapping and 3D texturing on the iPad - but not by much, and tabs seem to be levelling even more lately, with more and more new apps being introduced regularly as entry-level android devices get beefier at cheaper prices and tablets as a general form factor make a comeback in people's regular day-to-day use habits and so, accordingly, to the market.
      Just so you know, I got a S8 Ultra with 12gb of ram nine months ago and I'm even happier with it today than I was the day I got it - and I was utterly happy with it that day, checking and finding out how responsive it was in Krita, Sketchbook, Clip Studio, Nomad, Spacedraw and so on - Sketchbook on the S8 Ultra in particular is *the most lag-free* drawing experience you can get on ANY digital device currently available on the market, period, regardless of brand, operating system, hardware format and digitizer tech, and I can tell you I'm completely unbiased on the subject of brands and such, as I'm one of the most uncaring and sceptical whatever-gets-the-job-done persons you can ever meet. That's the reason why I honestly told you Apple products/iOS might currently have some advantage over android regarding 3D model work, just the same way I can tell you how drawing on the S8 using Sketchbook for line work is the closest thing, responsiveness-wise, to drawing with actual physical tools over real paper there is right now, hands down (edit: except for the S9, I just realized, which must be around the corner or already in stores, as I haven't paid attention to the latest news about the subject because obviously I'm not looking for a replacement anytime soon).
      At any rate, the ultimate decision is yours. At least you can be sure that you're split between two exceedingly good choices, so whatever you decide will be a good decision in the end anyway, by definition.

    To tell you the truth, that looks absolutely terrible.... If you are tight on budget Id definitely recommend getting something like a used galaxy tab 6 or 7. More expensive but would save your sanity. And noone should get those screen scratching hard pencils. They really damage your screen.
    And no I'm not a android hater. I personally use a Galaxy tab 7+ witch i prefer over the iPad.

      Good feedback. I am trying to source the highest end android and some middle of the road models. I’ve hardly ever used an android device so it’s all exploration for me. How much is a used Galaxy 6 or 7 going for these days?

    • @SouthernGFX

      Your comment about the harder tipped pens is spot on. They would really cause some issues on this screen over time.

      @@SouthernGFX I live in Sweden so prices are higher over here overall. But i found the 6 for 250usd and the 7 for 320 USD when doing a quick search. Even if that's way more expensive they are worth the cost. Getting a budget android tablet for 100 bucks will only get you frustrations. Better save that money till you can afford a better one. I also hear good things about the S6 light but i haven't tested that one and I'm not as convinced from the pure specs. It's great for drawing in things like ibis paint though.

      @@SouthernGFX Another thing about those hard tipped abominations of a pen . For what your are getting they are way overpriced. Add the cost of the screen being damaged and the 100 bucks for a tablet isn't that cheap anymore.

      I paid for a used S6 lite with active pen and cover included 200€, 4 GB Ram, LTE version.
      Active pen makes a big difference, also allows writing and accurate sketching.
      I would not recommend lower specs.
