Sir , I have ever watched Alternator Working Video of Lesics (Previously , Learn Engineering) RUclips Channel in which , it was told , that D.C. Supply for Excitation Purpose is given either from an external source , else from a small D.C. Generator mounted over the same prime mover on the common shaft & that case , the Alternator is said to be SELF EXCITED .
Would you mind to elaborate on this SELF EXCITED ALTERNATOR please Sir ? By the way , the Excitation System in Standby D.G. Sets , is Static or Brushless Sir ?

      This concept seems absolutely correct.
For DG, normally brushless excitation is used.

@@ElectricalTalks Sir , One doubt may please be clarified . As I have understood from your videos of "Static & Brushless Excitation Systems" , no Small D.C. Generator is mounted over the same prime mover on the common shaft for the purpose of Excitation in case of both the types of Excitation System .
Then where exactly these Self Excited Alternators are used ? And particularly , the type of Excitation System used in these Generators ?

      Good question.
In brushless excitation system, on the gen shaft, a small ac generator is mounted. That is permanent magnet ac generator, not dc gen. you need no external power source for this excitation system, so, brushless excitation system may be called as self excited system.
Another excitation system was used in earlier days, that is dc excitation system... In this case a small dc gen was used on the gen shaft. that system was also self excited system as you need no external excitation power.

Sir , One final doubt in this regard - AVR doesn't exactly control the field current directly ; Rather it controls the voltage being sent to the rotor directly in case of Static Excitation System and indirectly in case of Brushless Excitation System (AVR controls the field voltage being sent to the Main Exciter) which in turn proportionally controls the field current (Simple logic according to the Ohm's Law) .
My understanding may please be reviewed & acknowledged Sir .

Yes, your concept is absolutely correct as always 😊
