    Excellent excellent excellent way to tie. I've fished this summer using different variations of this knot and by far your way is the best. 30# Power Pro V2 braid to 25# Sunline Super Natural clear mono. I've lost several rigs to the others. Never lost my first with yours and caught several fish on it. I will be using this from now on. Thank you.

    Normal alberto is fine. I use 40lb braid to 55lb shock. Never had one fail. More knots you put in the bigger the finished knot . I like it as is more streamlined when going through rod guides.

      If you cast 2oz jigs or larger, your alberto WILL break and you'll lose your jig, if casting frequently. he's also correct about it snagging the mono tag end and fouling up your lure's action, every so many casts. For this reason I've stopped using it, as its cost me quite a bit of money, and some nice fish, over the years! This improved method may be worth a try, as it does seem to protect that tag end from snagging up, which is what I've always suspected to be the cause, as he has confirmed, but for overall strength, its still inferior to the FG, if going after larger powerful fish like cobia.

      Why not just use a simple surgeon? I've found it to be very strong and very easy to tie.

  • @garryknox1614

    That is a good variation, thank you. Another method that looks great and works well is putting 2 x half hitches on the snipped leader side using the tag end braid, like you did BUT then adding a 5 x turn Rizzuto finish to the knot. Very smooth and should prevent nasty leader tag burr snags.

    I use the alberto knot all the time and like you, have run the tag end of the braid through the fluoro loop 2x and then finished it with 2 half hitches. It has never failed me. I'll have to try the extra step to see if it works better for me.

  • @josephgreavesii5106
    @josephgreavesii5106 Год назад

    Just tried this myself today and I already tied it 3 times. I’m at a loss. In my mind I know that this would work but when I finish it off with the half hitches the knots will not hold tight to tag end of the fluorocarbon. I even square knotted it like you did in the video and to no avail. I mean I do see that it will hold tight for the video but I can’t imagine it would hold tight to the fluoro tag end indefinitely. I eventually just cut off the “improvement” part of it. It could work for a moment but because the improvement line runs over the main knot it will come lose since the finishing half hitches are prone to sliding. I’m sorry but this simply won’t work for me. Maybe the kind of fishing you do doesn’t pose a threat to the finish, but as I fish a lot of heavy cover the finish will pose a concern to me. Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ll keep looking.

    • @thequietfisho
      @thequietfisho  Год назад

      I'm not sure why this doesn't work for you, perhaps you don't have enough tension in the line when running it up past the main knot and tying the first half hitch? In over a year of using this method I haven't had the half hitches come undone once.

    • @yokfin53
      @yokfin53 Год назад

      If you want it to stay I suggest finishing off with a rizzuto instead of half hitches. Half hitches tend to get undone after a while.

    Instead of doing 3 to 5 overhand knots.. i just do a standard fishermans knot (clinch) with 5 wraps. Its actually faster and stronger, and wont come undone. But in all honesty.. i never tie braid straight to floro/mono anyway. I use a swivel, and tie trilene knots on both side.. which gives top breaking strength, and solves any line twist. I dont like reeling any knot through the gides. And because all tbe salt/fresh water is muddy in my area of texas.. even straight braid is ok 90% of the time. The only clear water around here is in swimming pools

    i really don't think you're making an improvement beyond adding an extra wrap at the end for the traditional "improved alberto." you've greatly increased the profile of the knot, added a loose piece of braid. i use the alberto from time to time. strong knot. best strength over FG is how quickly you can tie the alberto. if you need a lower profile knot you can go to the fg. it's as low profile as they come and it's stronger. here, you're adding time, adding volume to the knot, and i can't really say i trust its ability to protect my knot or reduce the damage done to it or the reduction of casting distance through the guides. i would be curious to see if you figured out a way to get the tag end of the braid onto the other side of the knot without going outside of the knot. like a rizutto or a snell.

    • @thequietfisho
      @thequietfisho  11 месяцев назад

      All I know is this improved knot travels through the guides smoothly now, no more hang ups on microguides from the leader tag, that's the point of this knot. Casting distance has been improved as a result and I haven't noticed any issues with strength.
