  • Today I go over my "State of the Collection" and compare myself to the great swordsman Jaime Lannister. About 7 minutes into the video, I heard a mysterious voice in the other room; I thought Maria had come early to clean the house, but in fact, I've surmised that the voice I heard was an uninvited announcement from my Alexa device. As a result, I rushed the end of my video presentation.

Great collection and Happy New year McMahon!🍾 I’m with you when it comes to bracelets. Unless it is titanium or has a quick adjustment/extension feature, I generally detest bracelets. They are heavy, hard to get a good fit, and often become a vice grip in the heat of the summer. Trimmed nato straps or rubber for me. Like you, I’ve gone through collection size anxiety a lot, but I think I’ve cured myself. Life’s just too short to worry about such things. The hassle of selling watches I still like, only to get to some arbitrary collection size just doesn’t make sense. Watches are small and don’t take up much space. No more watches for me this year though. I’m done. I will force myself to be content with my collection as is.

Great collection Jeff, even though they are nearly all Seiko Divers, there's enough aesthetic diversity to justify. I'm currently in the less is more camp, my watch box hold six watches, I personally don't think I need more than that, as a result about 70% of the collection is getting sold, with the funds going towards 1 purchase.

What keeps me from buying another watch is my Seiko Solar diver, 10.6mm tall and 38mm for my small 6 inch wrist.
Got it on a cheap pijama strap.
Keeping it on all day and all night.

As long as you love your collection Jeff, then thats all that matters . Still think you've missed a trick by not getting seikos nicest diver the sla043. Its only 1mm smaller than the spb147 , but its not cheap. It is quality though and so beautiful. Now you love straps you have no excuse not too. Its not a big watch but its proportions are spot on. All though your collections are all seikos, just about, each diver is different enough to make your collection varied. I've got the spb051, sla043, a rado captain cook, rado original diver, tudor bb41 s and g, and a tag heuer formula one chrono in 38mm. I actually enjoy the tag , even though its small at 38mm and fairly light , it feels kinda retro cool on my wrist. My favourite watch is my sla043 , its so comfy and feels a million dollars, although my tudor isn't far behind overall. My 2 rados are awesome , and my spb051 is still special to me. When you released your video of the 051, and I'd already seen Bruce's, I just had to get one. Mines still like mint despite me wearing it for work, 4 years later, and I must have got 20 straps for it. But in my collection, my sla043 is king, it makes me smile every time I glance at it. Its like watching Jamie Lee Curtis, in the top less scene in trading places , telling Dan ackroyd, this is where I sleep, and that's where you are sleeping , lol.

@@JeffreyMcMahon, have you ever seen a 043 in real life though ? Cos if you had, you would own one for sure. Its an amazing watch. Back in the day when you loved bracelets, then I get you. But now enjoying straps , then the sla043 is the holy grail. Its the most classy of all the seiko divers. Its as good as any rolex or omega ive ever seen, and yet its half the price, and the bezel action is just sublime. I looked at an omega globemaster at 6k on a leather deployment strap , and the 043 was as nice , that could be purchased for 3k mint, that had the same level of quality. The deep blue face and black bezel , shouldn't work, but it absolutely does, and the baby blue seconds hand just elevates it to another level. Honestly if I had 5k to buy a watch, then this seiko would be it, all day long. Mines not very accurate compared to my rados or tudor, but I don't care, I just love it , and could get it regulated, but again, I just don't care .

Lets be real, most WIS have a collection of virtually identical watches (divers, _maybe_ sports watches) and then pretend, lie, that the blue dial version is oh so much more different than the exact same model with a black dial. But but but DiVeRs ArE tHe mOsT vErSaTiLe wAtChEs!!1~1! Yeah, and pick up trucks are the most best everyday vehicle for their suburbanite lives.
