There's no exit watch. Tuning out from watch social media is the ultimate exit. Taste of it this summer while I was hiking for 4 days without cell phone reception. I wore the same watch and it was a wonderful escape. I have toned everything down since then social media wise and I have felt a lot more content with my collection.
I'm a bracelet guy too but some pieces just work so much better on something else. On top of that you can get 2 great canvas or leather customs at the price of a bad AM bracelet. 🤔
The problem with getting an Exit watch is that anticipation of glittery, shiny objects appearing in the mail box goes away! Unfortunately, I like that feeling! 😕
I bought a Sinn u50 on bracelet last year on rubber and love it but I’m a bracelet guy so now I’m thinking of getting the $330 bracelet. What a mental sickness lol
I always thought of bracelets as a sort of compromise. You can do basically anything with a bracelet on however I found that there always is a better strap option for a particular occasion. Formal? Leather or suede. Comfort? MN Strap. Anything that involves water? Rubber. Outdoors? Nato. You get the point… I never had a problem with changing straps myself so I just constantly find myself swapping straps on my sumo to whatever strap is “required” where I’m going. I also think it’s helps with monotony. As you probably also noticed recently, a new strap can make an old watch feel brand new and exciting again. So two birds with one stone in my book 👍
Any SLA can be Considered an exit watch. I have a few Rolex and I’m basically content. For me I’ve decided I can’t justify spending any more on the hobby so I guess my last watch is my exit watch. Enjoy the strap game McMahon 😎. Best regards
I like my 021 on a crafter blue rubber strap. It form fits the case and you can put whatever metal clasp that you want to retrofit it with. I put a strap code clasp on the crafter blue strap.
I don't want to brag, but I try to live a minimalist life since almost 4 months with a Planet Ocean and a G Shock and it goes better than I expected. I don't know for sure if an exit watch exists, but so far I feel like I found mine.
the sla models dont generally come on bracelets. it's a shame because they can make some decent ones. They are great on straps , but it's still be nice to have that bracelet option. not that my review will have any influence.
You are coming round . A great rubber is the way to go . Most of my sports models come right off of the bracelet and onto a tropic other isofrane. Takes the weight down , streamlines the look love it . Secret for me was to get used to a looser fit it then becomes so comfortable . A note to be aware of I bought a hirsch rubber it was too small I have 7.5 inch wrists .. I personally love real tropic and isofrane pretty much the best I’ve tried . If you cheap out on rubber they can be uncomfortable…
I believe there is an exit watch that exists for all of us. It’s a Casio. We should sell all of our watches and just get one cheap Casio like normal people. We would stop staring at our watches like maniacs and leave all this lunacy behind. Am I going to follow this advice? You first. Until then, there’s another mechanical Seiko on the horizon for me.
I agree with you completely - the SLA021 would look great on a nice strap. There is no such thing as an “exit watch”. They’re the the stuff of legends, like the elusive Sasquatch.
An exit watch in my opinion is the watch that you would never sell, because of either sentimental value or you just like it so much. It's good to have at least one of those, and I know which mine is for sure.
I used to be an entirely bracelet guy. Now I wear some of my divers on rubber straps and it disturbs me thinking about all the germs they collect. A good quality rubber strap is definitely comfortable. Still not a fan of leather though as they gross me out. There’s just no way to clean leather. I’d keep some watches on bracelet and some on a strap. That way you get some variety. I tend to wear my watches on rubber straps more in the summer when it’s hot out and wear watches on a bracelet more through the winter when it’s cold out. Admittedly it’s mostly just a justification in my head to buy more watches…
I went through a phase of fitting orange straps to everything, but I found that they soon look really grubby, necessitating a regime of constant cleaning. Very tiresome.
I love a good bracelet but straps are more fun. I’ll keep my watches with good bracelets more on the bracelet than straps. Then the watches with not as good of bracelets most of the time on straps. Gotta mix it up to maximize the fun!
The perfect exit watch is a friggin' Casio F91W 😂 Seriously, I don't think there's an exit watch, but rather an exit point in your life, when you've just had enough of watches and loose interest. I've talked to someone who has reached this point, now he's happily rocking only 2 watches, not being interested in having a collection any more. Edit: Actually the guy had his collection stolen (Omegas and stuff) and he just lost interest in developing a collection again. He has a G-Shock and something else (nothing fancy or expensive) and that's it for him.
I'd stick to metal bracelets personally. You'll hate the others once they age, get sweat marks, discolour and stretch especially holes and keeper. MM300 looks best on Metal Cheers
Jeff, do you find yourself overly concerned about scratching your watches? It sounds like something you worry about. I’ve definitely scratched mine while changing straps. I’ve also scratched the bezel while doing chores with it on. It hurts in the moment, but I always get over it. I would always rather be really wearing the hell out of my watches than worrying about them getting marked up. Just curious about your feelings on the subject
I do not think exit watches necessarily exist except for the very rare cases of complete watch addiction recovery. I do, however, think grail watches and collection pause watches exist when one finds a watch that puts the watch obsessive onto a temporary plateau of contentment. This is the brief feeling of liberation Sisyphus feels when he puts the rock down at the peak and the entire system is in literal weightlessness. It is an inflection point before cycle resumes. As long as Sisyphus can continue the arduous cycle, entropy is kept at bay, the system remains stable. (I guess this is my attempt at a modern paraphrasing of Albert Camus's overall thesis in The Myth of Sisyphus.)

Welcome back, McMahon!
Try a Hemsut Watch Straps seat belt heavy nylon strap.I've had one on a tall heavy diver for 2 yrs. now and it is very comfortable and rugged.
I'm a bracelet guy too but some pieces just work so much better on something else. On top of that you can get 2 great canvas or leather customs at the price of a bad AM bracelet. 🤔
Hirsch havea are great

I agree. Diver bracelets are so heavy, bulky, clunky, and uncomfortable in my experience. Straps are almost always a better option
Saw a Seiko Prospex LX in the flesh this week, I was gobsmacked by the quality and wrist presence…..that could definitely be an exit watch 😳👊🏻
I went through the strap phase and now I have a drawer full of straps and most of my watches are back on bracelets.
Any SLA can be Considered an exit watch. I have a few Rolex and I’m basically content. For me I’ve decided I can’t justify spending any more on the hobby so I guess my last watch is my exit watch. Enjoy the strap game McMahon 😎. Best regards
Straps kills the itch of buying a new watch....
The exit watch is a lie we tell ourselves as watch obsessives. The only exit is to stop collecting.

McMahon, get a fitted rubber strap with a tri fold clasp. Just so we can see how it looks.

My wrists are 7.75, so the Hirsch may be too small?
I can't pull the trigger!I need a bracelet in my life!
I hear you. It's stressful to find the right strap.

Have you seen the omega ultra deep? Might be the ultimate hero watch 💥
Yes, but a bit on the large size even for me.

Don't get the isofrane! Check out Borealis they have isofrane styled straps for a lot less and better rubber than the original!

MM300 on an isofrane is a great look.
MM300 works well on Crafter Blue too

💪🏾📺‼️📌
The exit watch is the one you wear in the box.
⚰️
I would love your thoughts on the new citizen pro diver titanium. Just your thoughts, I know your in your exit honeymoon strap-o-sphere lol.
It's a good value. I played around with it. It's worth about 550 on Sakura. I wouldn't pay more than that.

Ah, so you've planted the seeds of doubt.
@@JeffreyMcMahon see how you go with the ones you already have before spending anymore money.
Jeff I have a black isofrane I don’t use, let me know if your interested.
Is it in mint condition? If so, I am.

Yes, but I still wear them as long as I feel comfortable in the environment. Nothing is guaranteed to remain pristine.
Sell it and get a black Bay pro.
