I remember this program of hers. It was well-constructed, balanced, not just crossovers, good ice coverage and movement patterns on the ice, and really good technical ability. The bonus was her look. It defined the program and music so well. That dress, just beautiful and perfect. Two great World's skates for Tanja two years in a row, 93-94.
She was very charming, had a very nice style. It's really too bad she was sick and had to withdraw from the 1998 Olympics. She would have had a real shot at bronze there.
I remember her performance well. It was a very good performance with almost no mistakes. The result was a bronze medal, but I think that Tanja's performance was better than that of the silver medal Surya.
the thing i love the most about her - aside from her amazing skating - is the fact that she appears to be smiling or laughing through her entire program as oposite to many others who looks like they just swallowed a lemon.
I've only had the chance to find a video of her long program in Lillehammer today. I never realized that she was such a beautiful skater, it seems like the judges lowballed everyone from 5th place and below, especially Yuka, Tanja and Katarina. I would've put Yuka in the top 3 for her LP, Tanja with higher artistic impression, and the same with Katarina. But I'm so happy that she finished her amateur career with at least a world medal :)
A delightful program of a charming and attractive skater. Beautiful triple loop, toe loop and salchow. I somewhat regretted that in the years to come she did not improve the way one could have hoped for (obviously some injuries and health problems came in between).
Please upload her exhibition performance from the 94 worlds if you have it! I remember she skated to a medley of show tunes and a Pointer Sisters song, and it was great!
She seems to be the opposite of many skaters today as many seem to excel at toe jumps but not the edge ones. Tanja's triple loop and triple salchow were very very strong, more so than her toe jumps IMO. Her double axel though could be a little wonky at times.
Kristi Yamaguchi was the opposite. All her toe jumps were rocks, and her edge jumps inconsistent, salchow she almost never made, and loop was hit or miss too. Her double axel was good, but she never came close to getting the triple axel she tried due to her rivals Ito and Harding having it (I would say she didn't have the height for it but Nelidina who was even less of a high jumper was doing it easily for awhile)
Did you not know that she is a ballerina? I didn't know that either until I saw her video as a ballerina. You and the others should view her video to see for yourself.

I agree. What a beautiful skate!

amazing, amazing performance.I became a fan of Tanja since Olympic games in Lillehammer.

What was better you think. The artistry or the jumps.
Totally agree.
@@milkybum6339Well Tanja and Surya both landed 4 clean triples. Tanja here has superior artistry as well.
One of the skaters that time who were clearly better and advanced than Oksana Baiul, but pathetically judged lower or held back.

I really really wanted Marina t get a medal, but the results were totally correct.

Look at her arm come out early on the triple Lutz replay. It's AMAZING she was anywhere near landing the jump!
Beautiful program.
