To my knowledge, Tonya only landed her triple axel 4 times in competion: '91 nationals, '91 worlds, and in both the short and long at '91 Skate America. She never landed it in an Olympic competition. Also, I never saw Tonya land a triple/ triple combination. At the '94 Olympics, Tonya had trouble landing anything in her short program, which left her in 10th place. Even if you skate great in a long program (which she certainly did not), you're not going to win if you go into the long in 10th place. If memory serves me correctly, Tonya did a single axel instead of a triple axel in her long at the '94 Olympics, and I don't think she even accomplished a triple-double combination, let alone a triple/triple. Nancy was pretty consistent with her short programs; they were usually very good (her short at the '92 Olympics was amazing and put her in 2nd - though it should have been first; her '94 short was excellent, and put her into 1st going into the long program). In her '94 Olympics long, Nancy skated with peace and joy, landed her triple/triple combo, a triple salchow/double toe, triple loop, triple lutz, double axel, and a dandy double flip, and held out her trade mark spiral for a complete circle around Olympic ice, plus did several very nice spins. She deserved the gold, but received the silver.

@shihlin1 She landed beautiful triple flips in both her '92 Olympic long and her '93 Piruetten long (at which she beat every major contender for the '94 Olympic gold, except Oksana, who was not there).

She was beautiful and when she landed her jumps they looked pretty technically perfect. The USFSA had much stronger skaters than her, but clung to her because she looked good on ice.
It is funny . . . I'd never heard of her or seen her before 1994. At the time I thought she was so lovely and beautiful. In retrospect, I think Tonya looked better than her. Strange what times does . . .
Nancy’s skating at times demonstrated her resolve to land her jumps, which made her performances compelling. She was in the moment and by no means giving up. I can’t help but be drawn in. The last triple in this program she’d change to fit what she had landed prior. In this performance, she attempted the Salchow again. At nationals that year, she executed a triple toe instead.
She is a great figure skater, unfortunately with the charisma of a pressure cooker. Not even close to the level of Katarina Witt, although she jumps very well ...
I love the graceful extention of her final spiral! She held those movements out, perfectly in synch with the music. I"ll admit that Nancy didn't always skate her best at the biggest moments, HOWEVER, let's not forget that she did NOT choke at the biggest, most important competition of her life 6 weeks after a brutal attack that made her the center of the one of the biggest sports scandals in history. At the 1994 Games, the figure skating event was one of the most-watched events in television history, and Nancy skated beautifully! What a triumph it was! I've always felt strongly that she should have won.
She actually doesn't, but you're entitled to your opinion. Nancy has far better basic skating skills, positioning, and skates with great speed. Tonya's skating is clunky and lacks finesse. They both had consistency issues throughout their careers.
Harding’s 3A was so inconsistent. Nancy was a textbook skater, and her edge work was more dynamic and intricate than most skaters. Harding was very inconsistent. Nancy at least was consistent with 3T-3T and 3Lz. In fact, I think Harding only landed two 3Lz in the entire 1993 season. Harding couldn’t do a 3T-3T for the life of her with the exception of 1988-1991.
@officeaddict33 I was thinking the same thing and was going to comment, then I saw yours LOL - you don't often see the last bit of the program as artistry without jumps. It was done very well and was memorable!
No she should not have. Nancy actually completed more even technically, a lutz, a flip, and a triple-triple. MIdori was injured and badly subpar, and this is actually an unusually good long program for Nancy.
This was her first World Championship and she was still new to the international scene. I think we can cut her some slack for not being perfectly expressive. I do think that she was very elegant and this program is really sophisticated and haunting. I love the way she extended the spiral at the end! Shame about the fall on the double salchow. The commentators didn't even acknowledge it! But overall she landed all the most difficult triples, including a triple-triple, which was impressive!

She was a chocker, sad but true. Her line was elegant but yes, zero story telling, stiff poses, and in fact a series of poses rather than emotion passion or true freedom. Labored.
@@MsSkatefanYeah, Nancy thought so too, she's a bad loser
Kerrigan’s mom is literally me without my glasses
i love tonya better. Hardings skates a lot better
Too bad she’s trash.
She is so boring. Tonya Harding was much better. Shes like a robot and she has no expression. The program is even boring.
Tonya is a loser and a criminal.
@officeaddict33 I was thinking the same thing and was going to comment, then I saw yours LOL - you don't often see the last bit of the program as artistry without jumps. It was done very well and was memorable!
Wtf is this?! Midori Ito should have bronzed
No she should not have. Nancy actually completed more even technically, a lutz, a flip, and a triple-triple. MIdori was injured and badly subpar, and this is actually an unusually good long program for Nancy.
It was a pretty good programme, but I didn't see any emotions and passion. She is just correct. I like her costumes. Very elegant and modern.
@@MsSkatefan BEST spirals ever...period!
4:30 dab
I mean she's good.
I remember this performance and it being a big deal when she landed her triple lutz.
Ive watched figure skating for decades she is the most boring of them all.
Definitely.
This was before the Vera Wang couture made her a media darling. I always found her skating to be generic and stiff. Without bespoke costumes she’d be nothing.
She doesn't smile very much.
Kerrigan is just so boring to watch
I think Nancy Kerrigan should play a figure skatng coach in Blades of Glory 2 - Going For The Gold along with Taylor Firth, Sarah Hughs and Sasha Cohen
Actually, I'd watch that. Nancy could just be her nasty self and it's perfect cinema
Weak and boring, at least she could be more graceful and elegant to compensate, but she doesn't even have that, not impressed.
Basic.
hehe shes great ,
Grace Kelly on ice
Nah, Grace Kelly could act. Nancy's more like Barbie on ice
Oceans was so much better!
Elegant and graceful? More like stiff and robotic.
I predict some jumps and a death fall or whatever you call it.
YAWN
Someone should've told her mom that if you sit that close to the TV you'll go bli......oh wait. Nevermind.
sheryle Jeffers why? Did something happen to her mom?
Araceli Chely....I was telling Cesar Guardiola off for his rude comment.... Nancy's mom is blind.....
sheryle Jeffers oh my, really? How sad :'(
Araceli Chely....yes my dear there are mean and cruel people in this world...and Cesar Guardiola is one of them...Nancy's mother went mostly blind while she was giving birth to nancey and Cesar seems to think that is funny...! But thank God for kind people like you..and may God bless you always...
sheryle Jeffers Thank you 😊 and yes, Cesar was very disrespectful with that comment 😞
Have a good day ^^
She has no speed! She is awkward! Very rigid.
Let's see you do it. LOL
@@yellowdayz1800I think that Tonya movie made everyone hate Kerrigan. Personally I think Kerrigan had gorgeous technique and great edge work.
@@someone4888 something. Because no way is a "very rigid and awkward" ice skater gonna end up in the Olympics.. Just rediculous. She is outstanding. She deserves more credit than Tonya. But Nancy is proving by her quiet life that she is the more mature one. 👍
@@yellowdayz1800 Yeah, she got mad at Oksana and a little bratty at that Disney Parade, but the only other time I’ve seen her like that was at 1993 Piruetten (I’m pretty sure) because the interviewer kept asking her questions about the free skate. Other than that Kerrigan has done a great deal for her community and has helped charities worldwide. So I think she’s an amazing person.
@@someone4888 indeed. Far as her little brattiness, we are only human. She slipped. We all have. That should be no big deal. But people that gripe more than her are the ones making an issue. Most likely. 👍
i am so glad despite allthat she hasa been through Nancy's mom can still see enough of her daughter skating. Nancy's trademark were her Vera Wangdresses andthat spiral. She worked it. She actually wasn't the most flexible but she just made it her's andpur e eleganceon ice. She was a bit stiff but I do likeshewasn't a total princess like Yamaguchi, Sumners, Fratianne,Lisa marie Allen trneary, Cadavy etal - beautiful skaters but kind of boring. Nancy was a bit slow but stil deserved amedal here. I did prefer Baiualover her at the 1994 olympics.
What a beautiful girl
sorry but she is too slow for a skater.
She is and was so lovely. That was the time. Nasty jealous cats on here who will never accomplish anything athletic in her lives just love to rip her apart and I’m not sure why. Just unconscious misogyny that she isn’t built like a powerhouse or a zippy little girl.
It's a question of, if the artist is a terrible person, do you still accept that art? Nancy's just not very nice irl. Anyway, she's so mechanical on the ice. There's a difference between practice and talent.
The camera zooms close up and suddenly the mom has her nose pressed to the television screen when she was watching the arena? Everything about the Kerrigan family screams over the top and dramatic.
Her mother could not see Nancy from up there, she was partially blind in her eye.
the bias is screaming on the screens
Nancy always looks so elegant and she looks like the ideal ladie’s figure skater. Unfortunately this program, the choreography , the cut of the music was mediocre. And there were some moments where she looked awkward and some moves didn’t seem to match the music. Not sure why she would go back to this for her ‘94 olympics long program. That said, she did win the silver but this was not my favourite program of hers.
@ Darius Diongco She did not "go back" to this for her '94 Olympic long; she skated this for her '92 Olympic long. For her '94 Olympic long, she skated to a medley of Neil Diamond songs. I thought it was a great program, full of dramatic tension. As a program, I think it is my favorite program of Nancy's. Of course, I liked her '94 Olympic performance the best of her long program performances, but I loved this program using music from "Born on the Fourth of July."
That fall on the salchow was ugly.
lame, boring no spirit

Nancy was mechanically close to perfect in terms of technique, it's true. But...
Nancy had such superb artistry and creativity. She was able to pull off such an amazing and intricate program with the use of music. Look at that edge work!
Tonya the BEST!!!!!!!!!
