Gorgeous. I’ll have to put this on my bucket list. Well, portions of it anyway. Not sure I’m into off trail hiking and gps stuff honestly.

Yeah I'd skip this section for sure haha, but the first day in this video has none of that!

Absolutely beautiful Doug. You don’t have to go to Bora Bora, Cinque Terra or New Zealand. It’s all right here!!!!

Thanks for this- can’t wait to see what the journey down Summit City Creek was like. I’ve had my eye on that route for many years but have always been too nervous to do it.

The wind over the ridge when you summit Round Top is notoriously insane. I tried making a video up here. Had to clip my hat to my belt. Outside of a hurricane, it was the strongest wind I've been in. I always did the Fourth of July Lake hike in summer when the trail up to Winnemucca Lake was almost too green to be real. Looks great in the fall. Love the colors. I've looped around the back of Round Top to the PCT to head back to the pass, and this section was not maintained either. Lots of overgrown areas and blowdowns. Not my favorite kind of hiking at my age. Great views down the canyon though. I wish Carson Pass was still in my backyard. May the road rise up to meet you.

It's an amazing area thay doesnt seem to get much press. It made the cover of the TYT book for a reason though!

Another awesome video of your quest. Yuck...14 pounds of water carry! Glad you didn't need to carry quite that much by staying at the lake the first night. Love the new backpack!

The next video is almost ready. Spoiler: There was water in the creek so I dumped 10 lbs after a mile. :) Thanks for watching buddy!

Hey Doug! Great series, might have to try this route myself this coming season now that you (and your Dad) have brought it back to life! Also was curious how you draw on your maps? Like to try that with some of my videos! Cheers for now! James

Do it! I'm pretty low tech, I use a screen capture app and trace the image on PowerPoint or the Clip app. :)

Looks beautiful. Were you able to make your reservation to camp at 4th of July lake ahead of time or did you just get lucky and it was available the day you started?

I did not have a reservation because I was not planning on staying the first night there, but no one was camping and I went outside the reserved campgrounds when I decided to stay. :)
