I just got diagnosed with Melanoma on my left leg. I have to see a oncologist and have surgery. I don’t know what stage it is yet. I’m worried, upset and beating myself up for years of sun worship without sunscreen. I’m so glad you caught it early. I pray I caught mine in time as well. Good luck sweetie.

So glad you shared your story! I am going to be 23 this year and I cannot imagine even the thought of cancer but I feel like I along with so many other are just so naive when we think about things like cancer at this age. I think a lot of people need to hear this as a reminder that you don’t just get a free pass just because of your age! So happy your 2 years cancer free!!

Briana Allen I definitely had that mind set before receiving the phone call from the doctor. I was in shock... Melanoma doesn’t even run in my family... I was the first one at only 23. But it is in my past now, and I wear my scar proudly! ❤️ thanks for watching!!

Cami G thanks! I noticed in pictures that it looked bigger than in years past. And the coloration didn’t look normal. I think I just had a gut feeling too that something just wasn’t right... better safe than sorry!

I can't imagine the feeling of finding something like that out when going in for a mole. I've never even been to the dermatologist 😕 congrats on almost two years free!

The common thread on these melanoma videos is spending time in the sun. I'm an older guy and have way too much skin damage. Fortunately I've only had basal cell skin cancer. But the risk of melanoma only increases with age so we have to be vigilant. I have asked my 30 something year old children to be cautious in the sun and protect themselves and their young children from it. Best wishes to you!

Yes, mine was definitely from spending too much time in the sun while I was young (specifically in high school). My melanoma has actually returned since this video, and I plan to share my update on my channel this week. We’ve got to learn from our mistakes and protect the younger generation for sure!

@@Meredith_Feira I hope you caught it early. I have a good friend who's had four melanomas removed since first diagnosis about five years ago. He was just a red-headed freckled kid who spent all his youth and teen years in athletics or fishing and his sun exposure carried on into his adulthood. His melanomas occurred first in his late fifties. Again, best wishes to you!

It's good you trusted your gut on that one. This seems to be appearing so much earlier in folks. I was 32. Found what was thought to be a nothing dysplastic Nevus. It started growing back where the shave biopsy was performed. So about a year later I went back to Dermatologist and I argued to have it looked at again. About a week later, I got the call. Not only was it a melanoma, it was missed in the original biopsy. So this thing had more time to grow deeper into the skin. Made it to Clark's level IV. Had the surgery and all that. 20 years later no problems! I was very lucky. Thank you for sharing your story. More young people need to see how Real this thing is.. Tanning beds are so dangerous that I really don't know how they're allowed in this country based on what we now know about them. Wishing you and your family the best!!!
