Peak Refuel definitely raises the bar for freeze dried meals. The chicken pesto is amazing 🙂👍 They are a little more expensive than Mountain House but the protein content more than makes up for the price difference. I take them for my lunch all the time, they’re that good….
Cool, great info Sour. We appreciate your feedback and for watching! Please like and subscribe as we will be doing more food comparison and review videos👍🏽👍🏽
Mountain House started their company 30 or 40 years ago and in the beginning they had a comparable short shelf life. They set back products from those early batches and tested then at intervals out into the future and found that they were still sound in taste and nutrition. At that point they would increase the best by dates. They most recently raised their BB date from 25 years to 30 years because they found the old packages to still be good when they recently tested them. Peak uses the same technology, but they are just a 5 year old company. They will surely raise their BB dates over time, just like MH did. I believe that Ready Wise uses freeze dried AND dehydrated components in their meals and dehydrated isn't as good for super long storage.
Great information and we have found what you shared to be true. We enjoyed the PEAK meals we have tried! Thanks for taking the time to share this information with us, please subscribe if you enjoy our content.
Well done! Great intel and very informative. You two spar off each other very well which makes it an enjoyable presentation to watch. Really dug watching your cabin build from start to finish as well. Happy holidays to the both of you and can’t wait to see your next episode! Cheers…
Cool, thanks so much Scott! Appreciate you watching our cabin build adventure and our latest video! Your viewership is appreciated! I hope you you have a great Christmas and new year as well! As far as the cabin goes we plan on doing an overnight video soon and in the spring we will be building an outhouse and maybe and outdoor shower.
You may want to ask the company about the shelf life. I did the only reason they don’t have the 30 year shelf life is because they have not paid for the expensive testing for that. The process they use is identical to mountain house.
If you are referring to my comment about mountain house shelf life, you are correct Michelle, I misspoke. I kept saying 30 year because we have the one year food supply in #7 cans from mountain house as well that are 29 year shelf life. The individual serving like we tested aren't that long, you are correct👍🏽 Good catch! If you were referring to the Peak meals I think they were only a five year shelf life, but since they are new that makes sense on the testing. Thanks for watching, if you like our content please subscribe.
@@LifeintheNorth40 Hi yes I was referring to Peak Refuel. I have spoken with them about the shelf life concern and the explanation was without the testing even if they are using the same process as mountain house with the same packaging they cannot claim the 30 years “yet”. My thought is they will eventually do the expensive testing to gain the claim of 30 year shelf life. Their legal claim is at least 5 years for guaranteed taste.
Oh okay. Thanks for the update and that is great you contacted them about that. We were wondering why the listed shelf life was so low, makes sense. We appreciate you keeping us informed on this.
The shelf life is guaranteed for taste and texture. The company has said it will Last decades. They have only been around since 2018 hence they can’t test 30 year old food like mountain house. It’s freeze dried.
Got it, makes total sense! I was hoping this was the case and was wondering why being freeze dried they didn't have a longer published shelf life. Thats great news as we enjoy their product, at least the few we have tried. I appreciate your comment, if you enjoy our content please subscribe to our channel.
