    I use to do a lot of trolling for halibut out of Port San Luis . We fished commercial . Our best day was 18 legal halibut . We won the halibut derby 1 year . I fished on a 19 ft BW Outrage ! Some of the best fishing days I've ever had!

    You should always use a rubber halibut friendly net. You can see how the net you are using shredded the tail on the first halibut. That can cause an infection and death. Fortunately that one was a keeper. But, never use those style nets if you think you’ll release the halibut.

      We were sure this one was a keeper. we normally shake the shorts and if its close I will grab them by the tail.

    Adam, great video!!! If you end up going to Catalina and anchoring up for the night, could you do a tutorial. I finally got brave enough and took my BW 170 Montauk over twice this year but I'd like to try camping out over there.

    Happy Birthday, Adam! The filleting of the halibut was riveting. I would have enjoyed watching you do the whole fish. The cooked fish looks like restaurant quality, and delicious. Did you make fish broth with the bones and skin?

    Nice video. Is a size 2/0 offset circle hook too big for halibut? Thanks.

    • @fluentfishing
      @fluentfishing  Год назад

      I just match the hook size to the size of the bait I am using.

    Adam, I plan on fishing the area that you're at in this video soon. However, since I'm fairly new to the game and not familiar with fishing laws I'd like to ask if it's legal to be taking fish out of this area since I believe it's a marine conservation area. The fishes in this area is generally big because it's supposed to be protected. LMK thanks.

    • @fluentfishing
      @fluentfishing  Год назад +1

      This was well outside of any conservation areas. make sure you mark them on your gps though just to be sure it is not a cheap ticket.

    • @playdirty714
      @playdirty714 Год назад

      @@fluentfishing i wouldn’t have known about the marine conservation areas if it wasn’t for Google Earth but they should put floating signs similar to buoys to let people know it’s conservation areas. The area that you guys were in is between 2 marine conservation areas

    • @fluentfishing
      @fluentfishing  Год назад

      @@playdirty714 Yea for sure I see people unknowingly fishing in conservation areas all the time. I definitely like to give them a heads up.
