The perfumed seneschal is the ship that Tyrion is traveling on. It has a name that could be translated as "perfumed seneschal": the name is in a foreign language, and Tyrion learns it means something like "a stinky vizier" (sorry, I read asoiaf in translation, I have no idea how it was worded in English lol). I think it was framed very much as a "twist" moment: as in, it means nothing for Tyrion but the reader is meant to go "oh shit!". And I don't think this micro episode has much narrative value if we ignore the prophetic twist. Iirc, it goes something like this. Tyrion sees the figurehead statue of a guy on the bow of the ship, he asks someone "hey what's up with the statue?", someone tells him the name of the ship, and Tyrion's like "oh, okay". This scene is begging for a hidden meaning lol. So I believe that Daenerys should beware of Tyrion, but she has no way of knowing that, so instead she is going to suspect everyone except him.
This was really well done Grease. I have a slightly different take in that I think all the figures in this warning are people Daenerys will initially trust; and for me, while I recognize that Daenerys has seemingly forgot her initial mistrust of Illyrio, I still think that in the end she'll remember and always keep him at an arm's distance (despite recognizing that it could be said that she owes him). I think this betrayal- the perfumed seneschal's that is- will come from someone she'd never see coming. To my mind, this will be Jon Snow. Quaithe mentions to "remember the undying" just before warning of the perfumed seneschal. Well, in the House of the Undying, Daenerys gets a vision that seemingly references Jon, and she notes the air is filled with sweet sadness (or something to this effect). So right there you could say Jon is perfumed. Also, prior to becoming Lord Commander, Jon was appointed to the steward's guild. Steward is another term for seneschal. So there, Jon is both perfumed and a seneschal. There's also a distinct possibility that by the time Jon and Dany meet, he'll be a steward again because he'll be serving as Rickon's regent at Winterfell. As to his motive to betray Dany, or not have her best interest at heart, it could be that Jon may be willing to kill Dany if need be to protect his family (should Dany go mad and become a threat). Or more likely, it could be something so simple as Jon having a superior claim to the throne; so though he may not do her physical harm, he could "take" her throne from her. Since Quaithe supports Dany, she'd view that as a threat. Again, I really enjoyed this Grease and it was very well done. Great job!!
Thank you Ashley I took a lot of time with this video and never even considered Jon. I think you bring up some definitely good points of all the possible alternatives people have put in the comments I find this to be compelling. Given the way the show went and whether that was influenced by George or not we don’t in terms of dany’s end. I think this makes more sense than say Varys or LF given I think both are coming to their ends soon
Love this. I always assumed Dany would have her guard up re: all the usual candidates, same as the readers. All sleazy characters with dubious intent. By definition I dont think they could deeply betray her. The real seneschal will be someone out of left-field.
in the german translation there is a ship that means the same same as "perfumed senechal". so it is the name of a boat/ship and the people on it to be aware of
That is definitely interesting I think my biggest issue of any theory on this issue, is that I believe it has to be someone she has either met already or will in winds. Like the Tyrells and someone mentioned LF that would not even be possible till dream of spring.
@TheGreaseGoblins I could see it in relation to a false alliance, them asking for aid against Euron and whatever madness he unleashed on Oldtown just for them to sell Dany out at the first chance
Perhaps it is a warning about all of them. Saying "the" doesn't mean it's only about one person. If I were to say, "Beware the man who has his back against the wall," as a kind of proverb, it would be understood that I'm talking about any man who is found in that position, not only one particular man. It's a way of speaking that is done sometimes in sayings. Quaithe could've meant, "Beware any man who is a perfumed senechal." It seems like it is true because all of the contenders seem or are definitely at odds with Daenarys. I'm only at 5:49 in the video right now, though, so if you're going on to say something similar, then that's pretty cool. I wanted to get my guess out there before hearing your thoughts.

"stinky steward" in the English version
Citadel has a position known as the Seneschal.
Archmaester Marwyn is traveling to Meereen on "The Cinnamon Wind".
It's a long shot, but what about Littlefinger? He is in charge (seneschal) of the Vale and always well groomed
I think he is just not connected to Dany's story in the slightest

34:21 Varys was described as being perfumed or fragrant by ned and cat and tyrion
The glass candles are burning and the rees have eyes again are strong parallels
Such a good work man
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
ive wondered if it could be the Tyrells, they were servants before they were great lords and the obvs flowers= perfume

I appreciate the absolute gall of pulling up the pronunciation guide before continuing to mispronounce seneschal the entire video lol.
I will be honest I looked up the pronunciation and I still felt unconfident on if I was saying it right
Plot twist the perfumed senchal is all the above
good catch on those serra references
Woooooo Best Chubby Cheese Dad!!!!!!!!

Safe grease 👊
Please, The Kiss next, for us great romantics in the back!
I already have the notes made for it! Recording it today!
@TheGreaseGoblins Yaaaay, thank you ❤️❤️❤️
I never thought it was varys as he is “the mummer” i believe it is reznak or green grace illyrio
Dany hates the spider the usurper and his dogs
The perfumed seneschal is Raznak mo Raznak.
I always thought it was Illirio
