      It's a great price.
      DJI are basically trying to take on Teradek with this. Teradek are fairly decent, but cost a lot more. For example the Teradek Bolt 4K 12G-SDI MAX set which can transmit up to 3,000ft (5,000ft with array antenna) costs almost $15k. Some reserved channel setups from other manufacturers can cost way more.
      I've used Teradek loads for professional video work and they work fairly well. These DJI ones seem interesting though.

    While I am likely correct that LTT did more testing with the truck and the antennas so I don't want to call you all out, simply taping them to the truck is a basically blocking the antennas transmit behind metal on 3 sides. Given that DJI is relying on LOS, you may find better reception by giving the antenna unobstructed views using either a cb/ham radio style mount to the window (putting it above the roof line) or getting a mount that puts it elevated off the trucks gate/bumper with a mount. either way should offer significantly better LOS performance then a few tens of meters .

    The crew would benefit from looking into antenna gain patterns... Higher gain doesn't always mean more better. Just means the signal is going out the side of the antenna more than the top and bottom. To illustrate at 21:19 Alex is holding his radio parallel to the ground. I suspect the antenna on it isn't high gain so you might not notice it as much as on a higher gain but if it was the signal would be strongest going above and below him as well as in front and behind. To his left and right would suffer

      @Andy-ee9ft Год назад +2

      If I may, I'd just add 2 points:
      To get the best of range and bit rate, they use the 2.4 GHz band and usually devices use Phased Arrays to enhance the signal (SNR, SIR). It did look like MIMO solution.
      1. So, to maintain optimal link conditions, one shouldn't place the antennas without careful consideration of the alignment (space separation between the antennas) relative to the Wavelength. Manufacturers don't place the antennas at arbitrary locations relative to each other. Although, they do have to compromise for dual-band and imperfect Polarization support.
      2. Adding matched cables will minimize reflection loss, but will also reduce the SNR. Higher gain Antenna or narrower band will have to cover for that loss.

I've seen companies try a teradek in stadiums, it doesn't work nearly as intended. You need microwave transmission & receiving, and a licensed frequency. Like at sporting events when they get a drone to do venue aerial shots... They tend to sit in a parking lot away from all the potential interference. I'm a bit surprised DJI didn't tell you to be more strict with the antenna placement and I'm pretty sure thats why the truck test failed so badly.
    I'm quite sure the antennas need to be placed at 90 degree angles from each other. This is because OFDM (from the 802.11 wireless standards) uses that to both fight interference and counter multipathing and signal degradation over distance. When one polarization is being affected the other can take over. With the smaller antennas they didn't have a choice, two were sticking up out the unit and two out the sides, compare that to the truck where all 4 were stuck facing to the sky, there is no signal diversity there. The scooter test is a bit better but they were not strictly 90 degrees which is why IMHO you still got drop outs when near trees. For FPV this is countered by using circularly polarized antennas as there you have to counter a drone doing flips, rolls, etc.
    A decent explanation is available here ruclips.net/video/JlaBpd0Rs-k/видео.html - Around 5:30 into the video.
