Thanks so much for this! Just got a bad boy yesterday and today the squeak started, googled it and your vid was the first hit, and your solution worked immediately. 2 years later, this vid still helping ppl. Thanks!!!
Great video & big help to other Bad Boy owners. It sounds like this should be in the assembly procedure (apply grease to O-ring) but must have been left out. The bikes are shipped without the front wheel & brake disk mounted, so it's definitely something for pre-delivery assembly & inspection. I sorely tempted to get a Bad Boy 1 - it's got to be the coolest urban bike out there.
Thank you! I'm shocked at how many people are having this problem, so it's definitely a design flaw or maybe a missed step during assembly. Much appreciated.
Thank you very much for the information! Yesterday my bad boy started to do this noise after only 11 days I started using it Today I used finish line Wax oil and the squeak was gone!
Unfortunately it seems a lot of bike mechanics aren't familiar with lefties so it seems greasing the o-ring is frequently skipped during construction at your LBS.
As English isn't my first language, the most important word in the video: "Trusty super-Lu"? Lu as in lubricant? You had to say it like that? So just lubricate that area? Thanks in advance! Please answer if I heard you right? And what is your trusty super lu? What can I use instead of the one you are using?
Had the same problem on my brand new Topstone Lefty 1. The hub cap can be taken off with a Park Tool FR5, reverse thread - lefty tighty, righty loosey. You can lubricate the seal directly. I like your method too, could be done whenever you lube your chain.
Hi, I have the same issue unfortunately. And I also took it to the local bike store, they took off the wheel, lubed it. It was gone for a bit but came back again. What is the lube you used in this video?
Yo Andy! Thanks for this tip! I bought the same bike and started getting these issues a few days in. The shop wasn't aware of this fix haha! Regarding the carbon belt drive. I'm hearing some intermittent rubbing on the hardest gear and somewhere on the middle ones. Do you know what you have your tension set to? There's an app for mobile by Gates where you flick the belt like a guitar string to measure the hertz but there's no mention of the correct setting for this bike. Have brought the bike in twice to get it checked and while it has resolved a bit of the noise, it's not totally silent like on other gears... Let me know! Supposed to bring it in for a full tune up mid july!
I have this bike. Bought 3 days ago. Is my first Belt drive bike. I feel it a little "slower" and harder to ride than a normal chain bike. Maybe because the Nexus gear is much more heavy. Is normal? Do you feel the same?
Paco Leone Depends what you were riding before. If it was a road bike with skinny tires this bike will feel a lot heavier mainly due to tires. I ride mountain bikes aloy and my badboy certainly feels quicker than an MTB on pavement.
I just subscribed can you do a update on how you like the bike I have bin in a battle for 2 years about buying this bike I really want to add a owner of this bike do you recommend me getting one I'm using it for fun and commuting between 1 and 5 miles
I'm two months into owning the Bad Boy 2 (same as the 1, but with the chain-based drive train) and I love it. I ride somewhere between 10k-20k a day and I enjoy almost every ride on the bike.
Sorry missed this message 4 years ago. Unfortunately my bad boy has since been stolen. It was a great bike however and I would definitely recommend it but due to its unique look it is a target for thrives.
Hello... I purchased the Pedrone computer for my Bad Boy 1... With the thick round front fork that is making it difficult to mount the speed sensor.. SUGGESTIONS? Thank you
I got my Bad boy 1 today and after about 10k the sqeaking started. I now have lubed the front hub. I'll try tomorrow if the sqeak is gone. Keep you're fingers crossed.
I think it's only for use in the city (street). Is that right? Can it be used on a gravel road? The rigid fork i think isn't useful for that. (and gravel roads: no extreme bike trails)
im interested on a cannondale bad boy 1 with a shimano alfine 8....but i wonder....can that internal hub really climb up hills? Specially when that crankset has only one chainring? Thabks for the answer.
Hahha Saved me! Legend! Question for anyone else here who has this bike. Mine does not have any protection over the large bearing cup on the fork side. Is that correct?
As in at the bottom of the fork, pointing at the ground? If so then me either. I wondered about this too as there’s also a small bolt hole that looks like it’d secure some kind of finishing cap...
you woudln't happen to know the procedure for aligning and tensioning the belt, after a tyre change things have never been the same, isn't as silent as it used to be :(
Andy Lowe thanks for the reply, disc is fine as I checked this a few times. I’m unsure what the tension was/should be, if I go by what I’ve seen online for an internal hub the tension is 35-50Hz - if I get it within this range I can hear a rugged noise coming from the belt, if I go higher tension then the belt feels super tight, no more rugged noise but then the back sprocket squeaks on every rotation 😭 Currently it’s near silent however on a reverse rotation I hear a rugged noise (as far as I can remember this was also silent)
I see, I usually tension the belt so it has a inch or so of play, but if you have a tension tool that would be the correct way to do it. If you haven't moved the tension screws though you would think it should be the same as before you took the tire off.
Andy Lowe yes unfortunately I did and have done a few times to try and fix it 😭 I was using the gates belt app to test the tension - guess I’ll have to wait a while before I can get it to Evans and just pay for a service and get it sorted. Thanks again for getting back to me
Andy Lowe FYI when I first got this bike in 2018 I too got the front hub squeak, after watching your video I just took it back to Evans and got them to sort it 👍🏾
I have a 2022 bad boy 1. The squeak was driving me nuts. Thanks for this video
Thanks so much for this! Just got a bad boy yesterday and today the squeak started, googled it and your vid was the first hit, and your solution worked immediately. 2 years later, this vid still helping ppl. Thanks!!!
Thanks for this vid! Just picked up mine and rode for about 5 minutes and got this squeek. Was driving me nuts.
Thanks Andy! Just picked mine up yesterday and it was driving me bonkers.

RobWhittlestone I hope you got yours! Got mine delivered today it’s a fantastic bike but I too have the little bird chirping from the front wheel 😂
Thank you so much for that. I was going to be crazy!
Fantastic my squeak has been killing me.
Thank you! I'm shocked at how many people are having this problem, so it's definitely a design flaw or maybe a missed step during assembly. Much appreciated.
I think incorrect assembly is likely as they're unique bikes.
no surprise made in China!
Thank you very much for the information! Yesterday my bad boy started to do this noise after only 11 days I started using it Today I used finish line Wax oil and the squeak was gone!
Your a life saver my friend thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you I was losing my mind from the annoying squeak and couldn’t figure out what the problem was
Bought the 2019 bad boy 2. After a few hundred meters this terrible squeezing starts. was driving me nuts. i have to try this out. thanx for sharing!
Unfortunately it seems a lot of bike mechanics aren't familiar with lefties so it seems greasing the o-ring is frequently skipped during construction at your LBS.
I love you my man !!!! ❤❤❤
Wow, instant fix. Thanks a lot
Looking at one of these to replace my trusty Trail 4. For a grand and a half I expect no squeaking!
Thank you. This was driving me mental .
Just got my bike and same issue! Will try this tks for the helpful video
Hi, thank you this worked for me and 2 bike shops couldn't diagnose it! I used WD40 spray
Just careful not to contaminate the disc
Could you please share the solution? Plus could you please show your squeak? I got some and mechanics can’t tell what to do.
As English isn't my first language, the most important word in the video: "Trusty super-Lu"? Lu as in lubricant? You had to say it like that? So just lubricate that area? Thanks in advance! Please answer if I heard you right? And what is your trusty super lu? What can I use instead of the one you are using?
Correct, Super lube is a brand of light lube.
Helped me out , I have the bad boy 3 an yes sir that squeak 🚲💨💯💪🏽
Had the same problem on my brand new Topstone Lefty 1. The hub cap can be taken off with a Park Tool FR5, reverse thread - lefty tighty, righty loosey. You can lubricate the seal directly. I like your method too, could be done whenever you lube your chain.
Going to try it before tomorrow’s ride! It’s nerve racking!
My Rush is doing this so I'll give her a quick shot to see if this fixes the issue. Thanks!
Thanks for this. What’s the brand of super lube you used?
It's called Super lube, any low viscosity grease will work
Just be careful of your discs obviously
very helpful ! Thank you
Which lube did you use?
Any low viscosity one should work
Hi, I have the same issue unfortunately. And I also took it to the local bike store, they took off the wheel, lubed it. It was gone for a bit but came back again. What is the lube you used in this video?
Lube doesn't matter, just use a light grease, any lithium grease is fine.
Got the bad boy 3 could you tell me how often to check the front wheel is on tight should I use a torque wrench
jean coils ideally yes. Not a must though. Would only check every 6 months at most.
Thanks for the tip

Not sure sorry man, getting the tension right is tricky. I do it by feel.
Do you mind telling me which kind/brand of Lub did you use? I couldn't understand very well.
Any light (low viscosity) lube will work.
@@Lowey84 Thank you so much. Do you think this one works? www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00288LPKQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A36CSOLF9Y1DF1&psc=1
Maybe, but that is chain lube
Is the superlube you used come in that syringe or is that your own
Benjimikey Any kind of light grease will do. Syringe, spray or otherwise.
Thank you
I have this bike.
Bought 3 days ago.
Is my first Belt drive bike. I feel it a little "slower" and harder to ride than a normal chain bike. Maybe because the Nexus gear is much more heavy.

Belt drive creates 30% more friction.
Very little difference between chains and belts. See this article www.cyclingabout.com/belt-drivetrain-efficiency-lab-testing/
How are you? Can you tell the weight of the bike?
Sebastian Romano roughly 12kg
Andy Lowe thank you very much!
I've had the same issue with my bad boy 3 2018 will try this remedy though
Hi! Got the squeak too. Could you please write the solution in text? I can’t tell a few words from the video.
This did it for me! A few drops of lube and now silence. It's kind of weird - I was starting to get used to it...
My LBS told me they are in back order, cant get it later July.. how's the bike holding up?
Great, I run the bike tubeless so requires only very infrequent maintenance.
I just subscribed can you do a update on how you like the bike I have bin in a battle for 2 years about buying this bike I really want to add a owner of this bike do you recommend me getting one I'm using it for fun and commuting between 1 and 5 miles

Hello...

I have a cannondale bad boy 2 .but the fork doesn't light up all the way .help anyone

shaftr96 öä It has gravel tyres. So I don't see why not. More upright position as well compared to a gravel bike.
i'll try this fix,,getting nuts hearing that squeak! just 4 days after purchasing it.
Hi, thanks for the upload. This has helped me on my squeak on my new bad boy 3. Has you squeak returned at all?
Tracy LDN Nope been squeak free for couple of weeks now.
Andy Lowe Thats good to know! Thank you so much :-)
im interested on a cannondale bad boy 1 with a shimano alfine 8....but i wonder....can that internal hub really climb up hills? Specially when that crankset has only one chainring? Thabks for the answer.
dozzy000 just check the gear ratio, about as good as my MTB
Andy Lowe thanks man. Will do.

I used 3 in 1 lube and voila, Zero noise.
Thank you much :.)
could anybody recommend what type of lube/grease to use?iv had my bad boy 2 for about a week and i also have the same problem.thanks for the video!
Same here, it's driving me nuts!
you woudln't happen to know the procedure for aligning and tensioning the belt, after a tyre change things have never been the same, isn't as silent as it used to be :(
Belt shouldn't need aligning, is it the rear disc that is rubbing?
Andy Lowe thanks for the reply, disc is fine as I checked this a few times.
