Operation Cactus was one of a kind as it was the first mission on a foreign land led by Para 6 Unit of Indian Paratrooper. 398 commandos were going for a rescue mission on a foreign land with bare minimum information about the geography or the ammunition carried by the rebels. Also, it was a challenging task to keep this mission secret until the Indian Forces land in the Maldives because the Indian government didn't want the rebels to have any hint of India's action through the media. The commanding officer talked to his colleague at ATC Trivandrum in Arabi to seek permission to fly out of India. A commando unit attacked the rebels at the jetty to create a diversion so that the Indian Commandos can reach to the safe house of President with minimal risks.
