@@Isaiflamand Wrong, native americans had a very similar social structure as the aztec (mexica) empire. The aztec (mexica) slavery is considered one of the most cruel ways of slavery. Also if you look the Inca social pyramid, also there was the emeperor, the nobles, the citizens, the soldiers, the poor, abd the slaves who worked for the emperor and the nobles (who also hold the majority of gold and silver) for no money only food and sometimes were sacrificed just like the Mayans and azteca did. It's considered that Cherokees used to do sacrifices too. Other thing is most american tribes used to rape the younger girls in a way to initiate them in the female life. Not all that glitters is gold.
I think Michael Greyeyes could play a mute man and tell a whole story (on screen for two hours) with just his eyes, posture and facial expressions. It is astonishing that his performance in this film was not recognized more by Hollywood. Also, his voice is different depending on the film he is in. I’m not talking about accents but the sound of his voice. Well so much for Hollywood awards.
He was also a professiomal classical ballet dancer. We learn to project our emotion and story telling through eyes, facial expression and body posture, because ballet is a mute art.
I just finished the movie, I am devastated. I can't stop crying. My God what they had to endure breaks my heart. Michael grayeyes performance was impeccable. He was over looked he deserved an Oscar and Jessica to. This movie is one of the best. 👏👏👏👏

The greatest stain on the honor of the United States is what they did to the Native American community. I hope the Native American people thrive and keep their beautiful culture away from greedy hands. I’m so sorry that we all lost so much of it already.

@Carol Gaskill: The Black Hills of South Dakota had been inhabited by American Indians for almost 10,000 years. The Arikara arrived about 1,500 A.D., followed by the Cheyenne, Crow, Kiowa, and Pawnee. The Lakota Sioux came from the Great Lakes area with superior weapons, superior number of warriors, and drove the original inhabitants off the land by force. The Lakota stole their Sacred Black Hills which was common practice between Indian tribes/nations thousands of years BEFORE European settlers ever set foot in North America.

Can I grieve with you? I don't have any Native American blood in me, but I have a soft spot for them; I also get hurt when I read a book or watch a movie about how their freedom and lives were taken from them.
I read somewhere that millions of Native American people (tribes) used to live & roam all over the US before foreign explorers reached the continent around the 16th century. It’s devastating to think that we missed out on so much history, culture, friendship, and wisdom by murdering such extraordinary native people. Life would have been so much better than it is now and we could have learned so much instead of spilling blood. One of my great grandmothers was full Cherokee and she was told to change her name because it was shameful back then; I often wonder what she could have taught me.
I do have native blood and I have spent a lot of time in South Dakota on the rez. But let's not glorify these cultures like they never made mistakes, like they weren't people too. Some tribes were cannibals, some tribes especially in South America, sacrificed children and people, these tribes fought against and conquered each other, murdered each other and stole children from each other just like all civilizations before them. there is a bit of glory about the beauty of the plains and I just love it out there. it breaks my heart to see a proud people living in a third world country on the rez, but we do have to accept that they were just people too. this stuff about the environment and how they cared for it; when you're that small a group of people, when you don't have that many people living in your group and you have all this land, you are going to make less of an impact, especially since they had no machines. And believe me, they wanted the iron from the whites and the guns. my point being, accept people for what they are and don't make them better than they are or worse than they are. My friend always told me that Native People had a bad immigration policy. (Sort of like today.)

Sitting Bull showed to her a brutal world full of purity, of beauty, but too full of pain about the lost of his own people with the white men, and because of that their bond was stronger everytime. Catherine Weldon offered to her the possibility of actually being heard & respected. The understanding of his legacy was the object of her main seek of knowledge. For that their relationship is the story of an apprenticeship, a friendships and finally a romance, because two human beings who were meant to be done, just found each other in middle of their own loneliness. The film's cast list shows Jessica Chastain's character as Catherine Weldon; a slight change from the real woman upon whom the character is based, Caroline Weldon (a common thing for based-upon films). This is a fascinating piece of history. Sadly, even the A-list actors who appeared in this film (and I include Michael Greyeyes in that list) couldn't get it nominated for any awards (afaik). Was it a for-the-love project for those involved? Did it not get noticed due to the glut of other films in 2018? Did its subject cause it to get less notice? Hard to say. Perhaps all those things had some influence, as well as other factors. It's a damn shame. Based on what I've seen of it so far, it looks like a well-crafted film with high-caliber performances.
Norther56 I agree. Woman Walks Ahead deserves much more recognition! It’s a breathtaking film with incredible acting. But at least we found this treasure; perhaps sooner or later the rest of the world will catch up! :)

This is such a sad and beautiful story...racism is the worst. Both Sitting Bull and Catherine Weldon deserved to be together long term. Of course times were way worse back then for minorities and women who thought for themselves.
I know this is going to be a painful yet beautiful movie so I was hesitating on watching it. Took me days after I watched this clip before deciding to watch it today. Now my eyes are swollen. It such a wonderful movie. I really hope that the government will give more rights, opportunities, lands, and respect to the natives. They deserve it from the very beginning and they deserve more.
I was crying since 1/3 of the video. I'm so sad that the whole culture, so many tribes got destroyed like this 💔 and the worst is the mixed couples, people that are different in some way are still being attacked for it and there are still racist, misogynist, stupid people who believe they are better just because their skin is white 💔
I am a white woman and my heart breaks for what my ancestors did. My life and my heart doesn't reflect on their deeds. My heart and my life see no color. I see beauty in every culture and race.

It's true, native mantra 🏹
That's bullshit still. You have hundreds of books about native americans having class differences, economic differences of course.
@@jesusofnazareth6254 Name one of those books? Maybe they had class differences but that doesnt change the fact that the poorest man in a tribe was the chief.
Hollywood is owned by China. This was far too decent of a movie to get recognized.
He was also a professiomal classical ballet dancer. We learn to project our emotion and story telling through eyes, facial expression and body posture, because ballet is a mute art.

The historical Sitting Bull asker her hand in marriage, and even he had a wife named "Light Hair", so seems that Catherine Weldon had been his destiny even years before. He would never have given up on his people and the fight for their rights and their land. And she… I don't even know where to begin describing how utterly degraded this great historical figure has been by this movie. Ironically, just like she was in the press of her time.
Anyone who feels touched by this piece of fake History shall find much more to be impressed by in Weldon's biografie "Woman Walking Ahead" by Eileen Pollack, ridiculously cheap as a kindle, and a great, great read.
This movie is so beautiful and unique. Truly a great movie. Michael Greyeyes is an amazing actor and human being. Jessica Chastain also.
They loved each other, but never expressed it.
She's an artist w/ guts, something I admire very much. I paint portraiture & ❤ to paint subjects w/ secrets, meaning & redemption. This would be a worthy painting⚘
it's strange how you just talk about the white girl and what she paints
@@colindaniels1156 I didn't say anything about what the "White Girl" paints. What are you judging? You are entitled to your opinion, but that's all it is. Fact: I said this would be a worthy painting; referring to me painting Michael Greyeyes (Sitting Bull in the movie because I do portraiture) lol. The movie has 2 heros, and as a strong women I paint as I like. Why do you assume I meant "The White Girl" as you put it? What's wrong with the "White girl?" How do you find it worthy to discredit the woman? She would be a worthy painting too. Color doesn't matter, matter. Maybe it's because someone hurt you & for that I am sorry, but it wasn't me. The authors's heading says: Comment on "The Story of Catherine Weldon and Sitting Bull." That is exactly what I did. In the story Catherine painted Sitting Bull & he painted his life. Catherine was an ally to him. I don't hate you. So why the hate, that's exactly what fueled these killings. I'm an artist & wanted to do an oil painting of Sitting Bull because I found him worthy. ✌
An outstanding film. It doesn't need to win an award, to justify the history and craftsmanship of the file, story and actors. I live on the opposite side to the US and appreciated this film, for the history, authenticity, and most of all, beautiful heart warming love story.
Michelle, I couldn’t have said it better :)

My first time seeing about this film in scammed clips, and I'm already crying. I have trouble letting go of films that are hauntingly beautiful and sad af. I want to watch this full movie.

I'm 50 years old
Is the greatest film I watched,
Incredible rroll performance everyone,

Amen
Such a Noble, Graceful, Steadfast People...all the tribes I mean. Beautiful looking people with such history. Thank you for sharing this with us❤️
videos like this always break my heart. i am lakota sioux. the most tragic but proudest part of myself. my heart breaks for my brothers and sisters in every tribe who survived these times and the systematic destruction / genocide we are going through currently. people tend to forget about us. media blacks us out. we only have each other so spread love. i was lucky enough to leave ogalala at 5 years old and grew up with successful parents in california. few of us are able to make it out with our governments oppression. rooting for you all.
I've only recently discovered this film! Stunningly beautiful and completely heartbreaking. I've always been interested in Native American history and horses. This video is perfect, I love the chosen clips and the lovely music. Thank you from England x
The one made this video is an artist. cause he/she was able to take a masterpice and turn it into another masterpiece.
I don't like to watch movies with sad endings, but I feel like I will miss out a life lesson if I won't. Thank you
That's very kind of you, Shelly.
@@alisakhodos7453 You are more than welcome :)
The best movie I've seen in years. I guess Hollywood is just completely screwed up but they don't see what's really good
I’m incredibly grateful I stumbled upon this video. I immediately went to Amazon to buy and watch it and scarcely blinked throughout it for fear of missing anything. Beautiful story about a truly beautiful people that didn’t deserve the treatment they received. And Michael Greyeyes... my goodness.
The beauty of Michael Greyeyes is he plays who he is. He blessed and gifted. The first time I saw him I had woke up in the middle of the night and then he did that 8 seconds dance , wow!
Most beautiful man I have ever seen
Phyllis Snyman ever see Eric Schweig? Last of the Mohicans actor....HE was breathtaking.
@@joannamallory2823 Hi Joanna, I have actually forgotten about him...😈 Sexy!
Yes, Michael Greyeyes , even tho he's getting older, is the most beautiful man ever.
@@pamelabustos8693 I think they made him look a little older for this part, because in the interviews he's given about this movie he looks younger. Either way, he is still a work of art. He is much older than me, but this young little 'ol white girl thinks he is the most beautiful man she's ever seen.
Yessss
Thank you. I was “clicking”around RUclips and came across the video, read the comments and then rented the movie. WOW... I don’t have words that would do justice to the emotions right now.
Tears are running down my face. I will have to watch the full story!
Me too
That was a powerful few minutes
@@shawni321 yes!!
Yes I have watched it 3 times. I love this movie.

What an absolutely beautiful man.
Get in line.
Me too
I claimed him first! He's all mine, ladies! 😊😊😊. LOL
What a woman~brave doesn't come close to her magnificent way~born today she would be president☺🏛
My sort of film.. Very easy on the eye like poetry
I know!
The only movie that ever managed to make me cry. This story is so touching and broke my heart just as much.
I love the respect he have to her and his heart
imo racism and neglect is still alive and well in hollywood, so yes, you're right...never even heard of this lovely film til now
Maybe because it had a British female director and the movie wasn't kind to the Army and the whites. The acting was wonderful and scenery glorious. Every actor played their part expertly. Wonderful movie, I had to buy the DVD
She every brave native has heart .
Norther56 Great Question. I Agree 💯.
What a handsome man 👍❤️
So beautiful the connection they had.
Strong beautiful mature and free men, able to care, protect, educate and share, and feel a wide range of emotions. What a life and time it was. This video does look sad, but not more than the history behind it. Support to all who still keep that culture.
So Oscar worthy. Very hard for me to watch but I keep returning to it. Michael Greyeyes is The Bull.
Beautiful people. Brave woman. Every living person, creed or culture deserves to be treated with respect. ❤

Sooo beautiful. ❤️❤️ My heart breaks for all Native Americans. 💔💔💔
I knew that had to be Michael Greyeyes! So many years since I’ve seen him last but he’s still the hottest ever!!!
Great movie and Michael Greyeyes is one awesome actor!
I think Michael Greyeyes looks better and better with age?
yes he does.... ☺️😘😘
I remember him in a film where he was a lot younger.
This is such a sad and beautiful story...racism is the worst. Both Sitting Bull and Catherine Weldon deserved to be together long term. Of course times were way worse back then for minorities and women who thought for themselves.
Yes,very sad and realistic
He's fine as hell!
so touching brought tears to my eyes...so profound...thank you for sharing
I saw this movie over and over I absolutely loved it
Wonderful movie with fantastic performances. Well worth watching.
Looks amazing! Sitting bull is one of my hero's
I just saw it a couple of weeks ago on Amazon Prime. Really good movie!
I cant 💔💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭😭just those little clips made me break down wow
Michael 🥰 He is a walking masterpiece!
This movie is so good. It gave me so many feelings.
Looks like a interesting movie to watch, Catherine looked like she really loved Sitting Bull and he in return.
There are racist, misogynist and stupid people of all color of skin.
I am a white woman and my heart breaks for what my ancestors did. My life and my heart doesn't reflect on their deeds. My heart and my life see no color. I see beauty in every culture and race.

Beautiful Thanks. I love this history and the movie, Thanks.
I like their sparing with each other and you cannot stop when two hearts listen to the call of love even although they spend a short time with each other in their eyes they saw forever
Absolutely loved this movie.. he was such a great man... 💜
I just stumbled across this clip of a beautifully acted and filmed piece of art. Very moving and emotional. Thank you.
