I met Stephen in 2014. He is in his late 40s, married with 2 children. His arms are fully tattooed. His music of choice was heavy metal. He was a member of the band Crowbar. He is so respectful of his Dad. Stephen is alot like Barry except for his music of choice. He performed with Barry during the 2014 Mythology Tour. He and his younger brother Ashley have co written songs with Barry for his solo album In the Now and for Barbra Streisand's Guilty 2 album.
to give the correct answer. „Words“ was recorded on Oct 1967, released as a single record on Jan. 1968. B-Side of the single was the song „Thinking Ships“. „Word“ was the second Hit listed in the top 10 of 13 countries incl. at four of these as No. 1. after their first No. 1 in 10 Countries „Massachusetts“ in Aug. 1867. By the way since „Massachusetts“ I am fan of the Bee Gees over all the decades up to now. I am too struggle here and there with the Disco Area and the LPs from Main Course to E.S.P. where only Spotlihgts of songs remember to their songwriting of the 60ties. the Cds One and then Still waters was teh return to the beginning.
You know you're a stud when your hair looks like Barry's and you're wearing a satin jacket with no shirt on underneath. The singing is just icing on the cake.
I love this performance especially since it shows his beautiful wife Linda and son (think its Stephen). Barry sings this song to his wi😢in his 2013/2014 mythology tour. Beautiful. Even if you don’t react to it you want to watch it. Thank you for your reaction. Always a pleasure to watch. ❤
There are so many artist who have covered this song - but this one is Barry's. Like Desperado belongs to Don Henley, this belongs to Barry Gibb. I have loved the Bee Gees for about 50 years and that will never change. Barry also released an album in 2021 of duets of Bee Gees tracks. Not sure if they are available on you tube but if you can find them as audio tracks, check out Words by Barry and Dolly Parton, also I've Gotta Get A Message To You by Barry and Keith Urban. There are others on there with Bradi Carlile, Sheryl Crow and Olivia Newton-John - all are awesome
Imagine, looking up at Barry, singing this song, hearing all the women screaming for him,and thinking,he’s coming home with me,tonight, ladies.Lucky, lucky Linda.💕
Holy crap. I was there not at that concert but I saw the Bee Gees in 1978 and I’m not kidding you when he sang the song the screaming after the first couple words went from the beginning all the way to the end you could barely hear him singing, because of the screaming women. This song is absolutely gorgeous.
Jive Talkin, more than a Woman, love you inside and out...that was Linda in the audience, Barry's wife and they have just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary!
Great reaction. I have been a life long Bee Gees fan, they still don’t get enough credit for all they have done. TALENT! Music, lyrics, style, stage presence, they had it all. Thanks again for your selections.
This isn't the best version by far. He did it a bit differently than usual here i think. Usually it's more ballady and romantic. He has the most incredible voice. This is probably one of my favorite songs. Thank you for doing it
I’ve also heard it said that “Fanny be Tender” and perhaps even “How Deep Is Your Love” were her favorites. Maybe it depended upon which song she’d heard most recently since there were so many beautiful ones from which to choose. 🙂
When his wife, Linda, is in the audience he always dedicates this song to her. They have a great marriage & love each other so much, very rare for people in the entertainment, especially music, business. As a matter of fact they all had good marriages. I always wondered how their wives did it with all those women around them like that, it would have drove me crazy.😂
The earliest, and best!!! Version was in the 60’s! The earliest was bare bones BeeGees! I don’t care for this one, because it’s not even the first! Their first”Words” was the first song I ever heard from The Bee Gees. Please play the original!!
I was at that concert. It was so amazing -- Something I will never ever forgot. It was an iconic concert from start to finish! I was so lucky to be sitting in the 3rd row between Robin and Barry!
In this song, Barry touch my heart like an harrow and it's not the only song that makes me feel that way. Bee Gees are fantastic. Sometimes it looks that there are one person with three heads. I just love their music, their songs, their own persons. Their songs are so harmonious. They are messages of love.
I am one of the very few who has had the ultimate privilege of seeing the Bee Gees in concert (1997) and Barry Gibb at an event (1989) -and he was truly as stellar as he looked and sounded. He totally held the attention of the audience (especially all the ladies!) during his songs. Only better with age, listen to "ALONE" by the Bee Gees - official video OR performance in Las Vegas (1997) - Continue to be amazed!
I am so glad you got to see them as well, I don't recall seeing many comments anywhere of those of us who, I agree, had the ultimate privilege of seeing them on the Spirits tour here in Cincinnati. It is a treasured we will never forget.
@@ohsfer11820 I wish you could have been there as well. Seriously. When I saw Barry Gibb at close range - (he was 42 years old at the fundraiser in Florida) his image is forever...forever etched in my brain. What a beautiful man...! And, hearing the Bee Gees at the MGM Grand (11-14-97)...I wanted the concert to last another hour - In fact, I didn't go to sleep until 3:00 a.m. because I was on such a "natural high" after the concert from hearing them sing so perfectly!
The version from the 1960s was better, IMO; I would choose a studio version over a concert one every time. Words is my all time favorite Bee Gees song! So glad you reacted to it. Now, all day their song Run To Me has been buzzing around in my head. If you haven't heard it, you might give it a try.
I think I would choose a live version every time only because it shows you which bands really have talent. Few bands sound as good live as they do after auto tune and fixing things. Bands like The Bee Gees, The Beatles and Queen sound as good as their albums which shows you what legends they are. Someone ran an auto tune on Freddie Mercury once and you couldn't tell a difference. His singing was perfection.
@@plother4242 I disagree. If I am going to listen to something for the first time, give me the studio version. I can always watch concert performances later. You mention Queen. I've watched their songs in concert, and I'm disappointed when Freddie doesn't go for the high notes or I can't hear the harmonies clearly. Someone reacted to Death on Two Legs in concert and they disliked it; no wonder, because the opening orchestration wasn't there, the melody was unrecognizable, and Queen didn't perform the entire song. But of course there are always the exceptions. My two favorite live albums: Frampton Comes Alive! and Stop Making Sense.
I was lucky enough to see the bee gees live in the early 70's before the disco craze, the Mr. Natural tour was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. So talented, their music will last 4-ever, I'm forever a fan❤
Their baby brother Andy sings "Words" at a show called "Command Performance", check it out - "Andy Gibb 'Words' ". If You watch this performance, You'll see (and hear...) the resemblance to Barry in looks - and vocals...

Chad, just loved your reaction to Barry's signature song! And now could you please react to Robin's signature song "I Started a Joke"? His 1989 Australian concert performance is really extraordinary. He actually got a standing ovation that lasted almost one minute! His 1974 Melbourne concert performance is a really great one, too, but, whichever footage you choose, I promise that you won't be disappointed. This song meant so much to Robin that he requested that it be played at his funeral in 2012. A truly remarkable song performed by a truly remarkable man!
They had me at Words, which I believe came out in 1968. It was one of the first 45rpm records I had (and still own), and it is still my favorite Bee Gees song. That would be 55 years of being a Bee Gees fan; I have 2 regrets, one never having seen them in person in concert and two, not spending enough time with their music. I am working on that last one. It has been an honor and privilege being their fan all these years and I will love them and their music for the rest of my days.
I had the lucky situation in Spring 1968 with the age of 15 to see the Bee Gees on their first Germany Tour in my Hometown Cologne. The socond and unfortunetly last chance was ten years Later in Frankfurt on their World tour not visiting so much cities in Germany.

Hi Chad, great reaction and Yes Barry in this live version is absolutely stunning. But then again we are talking about incredible vocalists, masters of harmonies and legendary hit songwriters. What else?

Thanks for reacting to this great song, Chad! Barry absolutely knocks it out of the park with his mesmerizing performance here. I fell for Barry when The BeeGees first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in1968. I was 13 and knew he was singing the song directly to me. This is one of my favorites. Though only listening to country music growing up, At 18 I know almost all the songs at the concert because of my gal... Watching them live was unbelievable. We were married 36 years until her passing.
Yes Yes Yes! This is my favorite version. This slowed-down arrangement is so amazing with the gospel-like background vocals. Just watching Barry, he was on top of the world at this time. The most Elton John style song they ever did was "Dogs" from 1974.

Chad, thank you so much for a memory. I was at this concert. And I was almost as moved watching this clip as I was when seeing it live. An interesting point -- you probably head some female backup in the latter pat of the song. We were informed, in the concert program, that these were the same three women who backed up Elvis on tour. That reminds me of another memory. It was about this time that Elvis died -- either just before or just after this tour, that shortly afterward Barry announced that the BeeGees we're retiring. In an interview he said that he didn't want to be 70 years old and still singing 'Staying Alive.' Well, 30 years later, it did come to pass that he was sgig 'Ssying Alive'" in his 70s. Oh, and I have seen more than one concert whee he sang this paticula song to his wife, Linda, as he was doing here. Thanks for the memories.
Beautiful song.....you must see the clip of Andy singing it on a command performance-you will do a doubletake when you see him in a tux & a beard, you will think it is Barry ...but Andy makes it his own & just slays it with his gorgeous voice
