I think we in the Western world have adopted a very short-sighted, pragmatic approach to ideas that only serves to paralyze our ability to act morally and decisively. Thank you ARI for producing this kind of thoughtful content, and hopefully more is to come. If the western idea of Liberty is to survive things like this need to be produced to inform and educate. Reasonable people tend to make reasonable choices given they are exposed to cold, hard facts.
Good moral guidance is critical, too.
Graeme Wood is the first writer that made me respect journalism
Mr Wood's has been one of the only serious treatments of the subject.
I read the original Graeme Wood article in The Atlantic "What ISIS Really Wants" and was blown away. It read to me as 100% true and what should be the topic of everyone that counts in the world reading this, discussing this and then dealing with the reality of "What ISIS Wants". It is certainly not what I want or what "we" want.
It might help to focus on much shorter, simple facts in this article, this discussion.
ISIS wants to bring back, did bring back ...
Slavery
And that includes sexual slavery with their slaves which often or even in the majority cases will include...
"Our women", "Our Girls" in England, Sweden, USA or just Westerners that stray in to "Their places" which are pretty much the entire world when "They" get "their way".
Liberals or here Libertarian Ayn Rand Institute have the view that the right way, the way that we and the entire world have been moving towards is individual freedom, liberty - of course for women, gays, all faiths or no faiths.
That is not the ISIS way - not even close
It is not as then President George W Bush said; "This is not Islam, Islam is a religion of peace", "Or they hate us for our freedoms". No the ISIS way is a completely different way and "Their way" includes yes:
"Child sex slave auctions". And that will be our children if and when they get "Their way".
It's not going to be solved by giving the Muslim migrants, Muslims in 3rd generation French Algerian Muslim communities their own special "Muslim appreciation month" right after LGBT Pride month.
Draconian hate speech, thought crime laws are being pushed in Liberal Western places like PC Woke universities to severely punish anyone who says the truth of what I or Graeme Wood has said about ISIS/Islam.
How does this relate to Ayn Rand's philosophy. Is her name used as a platform to report on current events? May suggest you explain the relevance before you report the news we could get on any channel.
Ayn Rand would have dealt with the middle east properly if she could. This relates as it gives a clear objective view on the middle east, which is quite rare.
To show how her philosophy can be applied to current event such as terrorist attacks
If you read any of Ayn Rand's non-fiction, she demonstrated her philosophy in terms of the events of the day as a matter of course. Read THE VIRTUE OF SELFISHNESS CAPITALISM, THE UNKNOWN IDEAL and THE NEW LEFT: THE ANTI-INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION and PHILOSOPHY: WHO NEEDS IT. Also, but it is less apparent in, THE ROMANTIC MANIFESTO. From that, we learned to see how Objectivis applies to the real world in real time
