This man is brilliant. Smart, witty, funny, charming, charismatic, and my god, an absolutely incredible actor. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
"Irish names are impossible..."
"I'm not going to take this from a Colbert."
What a fun interview. Domhnall is such an ebullient individual and he and Stephen seemed to really enjoy each other's company.

@@waryaawariiri1812 Ha, ha - that's what it sounds like!
Ó Glasáin (Gleeson) and Colbert, Gaelic and French names.
@@gerardodwyer5908 Thanks for sharing this interesting information about the names Gerard. It provides apt context to Domhnall's retort and is most appreciated.
ebullient !?!?!?! cool I learned a new word today.
I love this guy as an actor. I’ve never seen him in an interview or as a guest. What a delightful surprise! The wit! His father is one of my all time favorites
His interviews are better than his films 😁 Search for "Domhnall Gleeson Margot Robbie ordering a Starbucks". I got to know him when they did loads of interviews with the cast after Star Wars. All the others were just politely answering the questions, but he was hilarious! I though, who is this guy, let me look him up. And now I'm a fan.
I had no clue who he was until I watched this interview. And I didn't know either that he was Brendan Gleeson' son. He's very funny and charming.
Agreed D! I’ve never seen one of these interviews with him. He’s a great actor. Such talent in that family.
@@buskergirl He has great films like Ex machina, About time, Brooklyn.
I didn't know he was a nepo kid.....makes sense. I had no idea that was his brother playing the insurance guy in "Bad Sisters"!
Love Domhnall. Glad to see old fashioned class and charm is alive and well.
I mean, look at who his dad is!
@@dark_neverland And his brother amazing people it’s an Irish thing
Grinning ear-to-ear throughout this entire segment. Domhnall is a joy!
Same! Domnhall is so delightful, I wished this interview was longer.
He is one of the best actors out there. He’s intense and fully in to every character much like Cate Blanchette.
Domhnall deserves an Emmy for his performance in “The Patient.” I luv Steve Carell too, but this guy…his character chills me bones! 😳
@Bella Ventimiglia -- You've spelt his name incorrectly (I don't believe it was intentional, but together with the interview, I can't help but laugh + worry about what Domhnall will
do to you as revenge)
@@VideoNozoki Thnx for alerting me to my error. (No offense intended, Mr. Gleeson!). ☺️
The finale fucked me up
He is such a freaking great actor, you REALLY believe him- AND Carrell- in this series. Deep bow. Love that they made him dark-haired for the film, too.
“I’m not gonna take this from a Colbert” 💀
I love how much he kept throwing little roasts/jabs about Stephen mispronouncing his name. Domhnall Gleeson is the best and you can’t change my mind.
agreed. He's such a breath of fresh air in the whole world of celebrity culture. very genuine, down to earth guy.
First saw Domhnall Gleeson as Bill Weasley in Harry Potter (who marries Beauxbaton Academy beauty Fleur Delacour) , alongside his dad Brendan Gleeson, who plays Mad Eye Moody. Wish Stephen would have mentioned that...the penny would have dropped for many people. 🤷 Nevertheless, SUPER GREAT interview! Domhnall is pure sunshine! What a handsome, charming and funny man! He seems like a down to earth, personable and clever young man. Hope to see more of him in the future... BRAVO!🥰
Huh? Domhnall and Brendan are in many more things than just that.
Like star wars, domhnall is one of the main characters. Ex machina, about time etc
Brendan however is literally a world famous actor
Thumbs up for the great 'Colbert' reply
Which one? 😉😂😂
@@ixchelssong I get you're being sarcastic, but anyways 2:45 for posterity's sake
🤣🤣 “I’m not gonna take this from a Colbert!”
I had no knowledge of Brendan Gleeson even having kids but as soon as I saw this guy's name I knew exactly what his accent would be. I'm so glad there are more of them in the world.
They were both in Potter movies ❤
Brian (another son of Brendan Gleeson) is also an actor and is very good too, he's currently in an Apple TV+ series called Bad Sisters.
Theyre both in the potter series and it's kinda cute
I was quite surprised to know that Domhnall is the older one, Brian always looked more mature.
@@TheMarizanebogdan omg! I
I now cannot unsee that he does bear a resemblance to Cate!😮
domhnall looks like hes having so much fun
Oh my god, he's so fun and such a sweetheart! Quickwitted and adorable. I already liked him as an actor, but this was just a pleasure to watch. Great guest, great chemistry!
Not only is he a phenomenal actor, like his father, but he's also a sweetie like his father. Sooooooo talented.
I've always loved this guy. Great actor. Very charming. It's just a matter of time before he wins an Oscar.
About time
Yes he deserves an Oscar 🤍
Ohh for sure. He's got a bright future.
Such a fine actor. He’s so natural with his acting skill. Just watched About Time yesterday and it’s permanently on my recordings along with Goodbye Mr Robin.
This interview is too short 😭 I had no idea who he is before this video but he’s so charming lol
This beautiful beautiful man. Right there. Goodness!
The Gleesons are my favorite acting family so far. 💖💖💖💖
I think they're so humble and charming in every way.
Domhnall is one of the best actors of this generation.
I cherish this family so so much!
Even if he just has a walk-on part he fully commits. I think part of why that episode of Black Mirror he did with Hayley Atwell hits so hard is because in just a few scenes you like him and he is charming. He can also be scary as he is in this this new show or in Calvary where he played a killer, opposite his father, but he can also just be a nice guy and sell the hell out of it. I shouldn't be surprised his father can have be laughing in one instant and crying in another.
Domhnall Gleeson is amazing. A lot of people forget his name but this guy has done:
- harry potter
- starwars
- brooklyn
- goodbye christopher robin
- peter rabit
- about time
- mother!
- ex-machina
- anna karenina...
worked with Margot Robbie, Kiera Knightly, Javier Bardem, Jennifer Lawrence, Leornardo dicaprio, saoirse ronan... like the fact that he has managed to fly under the radar is amazing. Cause he is flying alright.
Plus he still looks the same after 20 years.
I now have a huge crush on Domhnall Gleeson, what a fun, happy soul.
Domhnall is delightful!
Love him! So cool that he called Stephen out on mispronuncing his name! 😂😂 He such a great actor! So versatile!
He seems like such a delight. This was a great interview.
Wow, he’s adorable.
I love the way Dohmnall followed Stephen's head down onto the desk like "yesss, yess feel the shame!" :'D
God, I just adore Domhnall to pieces. So excited to see him in new projects!
his act in the patients was mesmerizing
I was fortunate enough to see the 3 Gleesons in The Walworth Farce, from which that still image was taken, on their home town stage here in Dublin. I've never enjoyed a stage play more, it was brilliant and also devastating.
Is there a recording of it? I heard so much about that play but never saw it. I live in Dublin now, but I guess it's too late. 😳
Lucky you!
I was there also. Such a privilege to see them all acting on stage together
His surname is 'Gleeson'. I think the Late Show researchers got so caught up with spelling his forename correctly that they forgot to check his surname 😂
😂🎉
it's on purpose? 🤭
edit: they changed it 😂
@@engineeringartist4801 don't scream you can't hear me....
he is the most beatifilul man in the world❤
In Black Mirror, Domhnall played a (spoiler!) boyfriend/android surrogate fantastically. He's so good demonstrating atypical personalities. Ex Machina was good, but he's really shined in other projects.
'spoiler' doesn't mean anything if you are then typing the thing **directly after**.
I just watched that this morning! Hadn't see but one BM before for some reason. SO good, heartbreaking and strains the brain. Really well done.
@@Tao_Tology Of course it does! Typing direectly after is a REAL spoiler. It's not a warning, it's a title😉
I just watched the last episode of The Patient. Damn this guy's a great actor.
That cheer at the end, for pronouncing his name right.... I feel ya, man! 😹
Seems like a genuinely decent fella with great wit. Always being a fan of Brendan's since he started out back on Irish TV in Glenroe and even more so when he played the Big Fella. Really looking forward to that interview.
Was he in Glenroe?!
@@hoozle yep. If you remember George who owned the big house and I think Fiona was his daughter. Well Sam played by Brendan Gleeson was her boyfriend.
Hilarious!! Do not try to break the Gleesons 😂
Domnhall was a Weasley brother and in Brooklyn, too. He's GREAT!
I'd forgotten about Brooklyn. He is a wonderful actor. He certainly held his own here. Great fun.
He nailed this time (I'm pretty sure he came back in time a lot to repeat the interview until have a "I'm not going to take this from a Colbert").
Dohmnall Gleeson was in a thriller called Little Stranger about 4 years ago, that was easily the most unconventional 'ghost story' I have ever seen. He is wonderful in it, though much more subdued than he is in this clip. Check it out.
Domhnall has a BEAUTIFUL personality!!! Excellent actor too. Scary, scaryyyyy as THE PATIENT!
What a charming funny guy, I would never have thought this was his personality after the Patient
YAAAAAYYYYY DOMHNALL GLEESON THE CARAMEL RAY OF SUNSHINE HIMSELF!!!! The energy this guy gives off telling stories is incredibly cheerifying :') Also I am so glad he called Stephen out for the name thing. I am so sick of talk show hosts thinking it's fine to make fun of names and languages that are "other" to Western English. "You can't blame me" *snorts* really says a lot for the type of people who watch this show, I assume... regularly(?) and will accept that kind of statement.
That photo of him and his brother and his dad on that insane set gets zero context??? haha
It’s from an Enda Walsh play called The Walworth Farce. I’ve only seen stills and clips from it, but it looks like quite an experience! I saw Domhnall in another Enda Walsh play last November, MEDICINE. The play itself was just fine, but he was DEVASTATING.
he was in amazing stuff like "about time"... solid actor.
I met him at a cafe once, he is soooo nice!
Domhnall being witty as ever! 🥰
Ended up watching this segment twice. It really reminded me of the banter Stephen has with Steve. Enjoyed this interview sooo much!
Me two!!
He's so funny and charming!!! I reaaaally really like him since I watched About Time and Black Mirror :)
He came out the gates blasting 😂
Love, love, love him!! 🎉🎉🎉 Funny, talented, handsome, and delightfully kind! Can’t wait for Hollywood to give this man a proper (blockbuster) of a film 🙌
Very handsome man and very good actor love his accent and how funny he is 🥰
The last “Yey” when Colbert finally pronounced his name correctly is so adorable ☺️. Never crossed my mind that’s he looks like Cate Blanchett before, but I can’t unseen it now 😂
These two are so charming individually, and together they’re an utter onslaught of delightfulness! I’m so glad more people are recognizing Domhnall Gleeson. He’s so talented, and a “wee dote” as his Irish compatriots say.
By ‘more people are recognising’ do you mean, muricans are recognising him?..
He’s a VERY successful actor.. being famous in the US =/= successful
The actor in squid games is basically on the level of fame as Brad Pitt, and the Murican reporters kept asking him how it felt to be launched into stardom 🤣🤣
Imagine Brad Pitt went to China, Japan or Korea and the interviewers were like ‘well, how does it feel to finally make it? People here know your name now so you’re finally famous! You had some stuff going on back home, but now you’ve really made it’
Very condescending. This man was literally in Harry Potter and Star Wars.. two of the biggest franchises in history.. he was one of the main characters in Star Wars 🤣🤣
@@burner9703 Oh good lord. I know he was in Harry Potter and Star Wars. I saw him on stage in Medicine. I’m happy he’s getting recognized in the U.S. for the breadth of his work. What’s wrong with me liking an actor and liking that people in my own country are liking him too? You and your emojis are ridiculous and histrionic.
Oh my gosh, I love him. He looks so different in the Patient and plays such a creepy character. He's cute and charming in real life.
Domhnall's one of my favorite people! I've been waiting for his interview since The Patient came out and so glad it was with Stephen.❤️
He was robbed in Ex_Machina. Him and Oscar should have definitely received a nomination.
He is SUCH a delight and such a good actor. His dad is, too... he just hosted SNL.
I adored him in About Time with Rachel McAdams. Such a sweet and poignant movie.
You’ve gotta Cath this guy in his episode of “Black Mirror”. Amazing!
I almost skipped watching this segment... I'm glad I didn't.... still smiling!😊
I love this interview I want more..
I adore the Gleeson family of actors. Father Brendan, Brothers Domhnall, and Brian. If you don't know who these awesome actors are look up some of their previous projects and get acquainted, they are awesome.
Fergus and Rory are actors too
Did you catch Brendan on SNL this week?
Brian is REALLY good right now on Bad Sisters on Apple TV
Fair play to him, Colbert has a bit of history with Irish actors, Cillian Murphy looked like he did not want to be there when Colbert used the Irish steryotypes.
Stephen Colbert had a look of endearment towards Domhnall. He looked at him in a way like "wish this was my son".
What a super-nice guy. He seems a little nervous but enjoyable all the same. Love how he ribbed Steven... didn't hold back. I dig the candidness of this.
He's so refreshingly unexpectedly funny 🤣🤣🤣
I love him as an actor so much. It'd be really cool to see him in a dramatic role as an Irishman. Like a My Left Foot sort of performance!
What a great smile and person!
~N
Even though I watched this interview, I can’t look at this guy without being totally freaked out by him. He is scaring the - out of me in The Patient. 😱
He is so delightful!!! 😩
I think if people just understood that Irish has a different alphabet, their issues with pronunciation would ease. The rules are different. Si is 'sh', bh is 'v' and sometimes the h is silent.
Every language has a different alphabet, and different pronunciation rules. English speakers make no issue with how Spanish or French names are pronounced, but for some reason, if it's Irish, they feel entitled to belittle and mock it.
What a lovely guy. I just love the Irish 😊
Donhnall's a feisty sort. I like it.
He’s fantastic in the roll and it is really great to see his interview.
He is adorable!! I have only seen him in Ex Machina and that was a really strong performance.
The Patient is the first time I've ever heard of Domnhall. He really creeped me out on the show, and his convincing acting really made me not like the character at all. Seeing him in real life a realizing how he transformed for the part was mind blowing. I'm now a fan!
I love him. So glad to see him back with a project
Domhnall is my favorite actor❤ I love him so much😊
As someone with a first name that is hard to pronounce/strange spelling, I feel his frustration. 😂
It’s not hard to pronounce or a strange spelling though.
His name is pronounced ‘doe-nal’
It’s just not English.
Sean is the Irish (gaeigle) for John. S makes a sh sound in Irish. The name is just common in anglophone countries. But it’s just brits and muricans thinking every language has to abide by English rules. Irish (again, Irish is called gaeigle not Gaelic) is not English. It’s very different to English and I think it’s a lot older too.
@@burner9703 I am saying my name is hard to pronounce/strange spelling, not his. My first name is also an Irish name. I have had to explain or spell my name anytime someone ask for it. Just as he has had to tell people how to pronounce it, I feel that frustration.
Now I adore Domhnall even more.
Love the Gleesons...such an entertaining group!
Domhnall charming as always
So much personality. About Time is one of my favorites
About Time is fantastic!
I read the comments before watching the video, and they all say how funny, witty, sweet, and great he is, and all I could think was “come on, no one is THAT great”, then I watched the video and it was all true 😅❤❤❤ he’s an amazing actor, and this was a pleasant surprise, I’ve never seen him in an interview before
Brutally funny guy. Love this so much!
Ireland has great actors and actresses Colm Meaney Domhnall Gleeson Brendan Gleeson Colin Farrell Jonathan Rhys Myers Pierce Brosnan Michael Fassbender Paul Mescal Jamie Dornan Cillian Murphy Killian Scott not to mention Saoirse Ronan Ruth Negga Caitriona Balfe Kerry Condon Sarah Greene Eve Hewson Charlie Murphy Ruth Bradley very talented the Irish 🇮🇪
Robert Sheehan
Sam Keeley also is one of my faves
I think I just fell in love.
That show of his is really starting to grab me... can't imagine how it'll end.
yeah. that's the problem with me also. even though he is a serial killer , he is so much likable throught the series. I don't want to see he is rotting in a cell
I really like smart intelligent people. Right up my alley
I'm from Ireland and honestly assumed the French pronunciation of the end of 'Colbert' was some kind of joke Stephen Colbert was doing on The Daily Show but that once he went straight for this show, he'd pronounce his own name properly
As a French-Canadian I was amazed his name retained its true French pronunciation and hadn't been Americanized, as so many are.
@@leadoucet1432 he is of Irish descent. His name is meant to be pronounced with the t.
@@catherinegillen9496 Possibly of Scotch- Irish decent, if he's from down South - part of what was once the Confederate States of America.
He looks and has the way of the French, though. 😊
@@maideegirl189 he's a Catholic so probably not.
We in Ireland pronounce it with the 't' and his ancestry is Irish so I guess he should pronounce it correctly.
What an amazingly warm, funny guy. That show sounds right up my alley.
I'm not gonna take this from a Colbert ahahaha
He's (sigh) wonderful.
Have long loved Brendan Gleeson. Nice to meet his son.
I first saw him in X machina and knew he would be a great actor! He is very charming and likable in his interview.
