  • Grace Mugabe was a former first lady of Zimbabwe. In this video, we look at her rise from humble beginnings and her life as the first lady.
Her husband Robert Mugabe is a man that needs no introduction, but to understand his legacy and 37-year rule of Zimbabwe, we need to dive deep into Grace Mugabe. The life she lived as the first lady reflects to some extent who Robert Mugabe really was.

This should also be a lesson to African leaders. The hospital where Mugabe took his last breath could easily have been in Harare or other cities in Zimbabwe but he didn't bother. The money blown by Grace alone could have been enough to build at least two such hospitals.. Same as Mobutu, same as Buhari of Nigeria today who flies to London for a common earache. The list is shameful.

@Grimjaw Jackerjack I agree with parts of what you say except for the skilled part because Nigerians are the best doctors in USA and UK, in the USA 3 in 4 black doctors are Nigerians, the Imafidon family who are Nigerians are considered the smartest family in the UK.
Nigerians are the highest earning Migrants in the USA. I can go on and on
Hilary Clinton's doctor is a Nigerian.
So why can't Buhari use Nigerians???
They have the money to build the facilities and Nigeria has the skilled labour in excess.

The contractor did not have a full blueprint because it was a rush job and it resulted in isolation rooms without plug points for life support machinery.......
      The delinquencies are so dumbfounding.

@Massambula G Iam Smith was a great man. A legend. Declared independence and even though the country was embargoed all to hell, it made siginificant strides.
Then later Mugabe did the same. He bought all the land from the white cishet male farmers and gave it to BIPOC people. Sadly the whites sabotaged the farms and all fell down. This is what colonialism does, and Smith booted the colonials.

As a young woman who got the opportuniy to rise to the top, she could have remembered who she was and where she came from. She could have used that platform to encouraged the youth, women and the beautiful people of Zimbabwe , to work hard . She could have inspired and motivated her people.
As a young wife and loved, she had the power to use her status and help her husband do good for the country, and Mugabe loved her, he would have listened. But Madam, had hit a jackpot and sprinted to catwalks in Paris, London and New York for Guccis, Valentino , etc...Oh Grace Gucci, what you did to poor people , grabbing their land and displacing many.
You and your husband rolled a beautiful country in mud and destroyed everything .
I have no kind words for you... Beautiful people of Zimbabwe, we pray for you and you are hard working , intelligent, welcoming and we have faith in the new generation, you are working hard and you are on your way to making Zimbabwe shine again. Pray for us too . Sending love from Uganda.

Could it be that you grew up with a step mother, who beat you, accidentally cracking your skull and to cover up the hole , poured porridge in it got in the brain, fermenting it ?

It isn't just African leadership. It happens all over the world. As recently as 2020/2021 in the UK billions of pounds of taxpayer money for PPE was corruptly awarded to the companies of 'friends' and 'associates' of the conservative party including a company in which the then health minister, Matt Hancock's aide and alleged mistress' brother held a senior position. The money was largely squandered as the PPE equipment was either never produced, was produced too late or was not fit for purpose and had to discarded. Whilst he was P.M. Boris Johnson was investigated over the improper use of government funds in the renovation of No.10 when he and his former mistress moved in. Conservative MPs have misused thousands of pounds of taxpayers money on things like a 'duck house', employing their own spouses etc etc. Not to mention all the cash for questions scandals over the decades. This doesn't excuse corruption in Africa, but it should make it pretty clear that politicians worldwide are largely of the same self-serving ilk.

Has always happened. Names, locations, ethnicities change but many people around the world have essentially done the same for centuries. Some countries cover it up better, make it look more "civilized", but it's the same thing underneath. Poverty and deprivation often keeps the scope of evil low but no less evil. Give them power and wealth and there's no limit to how low humans can go. The only right government is God's government.

As a Zimbabwean myself I must say you did a great job in this piece, your research was on point, great job brother.Speaking of Gucci Grace or Hurricane Grace, she has become a nobody now in Zimbabwe, she had so much power that she abused, now she is surviving at mercy of Zimbabweans who now feel sorry for her.But when she had power, she had no empathy for Zimbabweans coz of her love for money and power. You also left out a story of her brutally assaulting a South African girl with a weapon, leaving her head scared. The South African girl had hosted a Party at her place and Grace's son was invited to the wild party,so she blamed the girl for her son's wild behavior. The woman had no moral values at all,but reality has now sunk in.
Mugabe was a great Revolutionary leader who surrounded himself with the worst people ever and they had self destructive ways that hurt Zimbabwe. Now with Mugabe gone,Mnangagwa has picked up and is taking Zimbabwe further into the abyss.2 of his cronies Perence Shiri and Sibusiso Moyo have died of Covid, now he has his back against the wall.Zimbabwe needs a new approach badly.

Everyone gets old and you should remember Mubage at his best and at his best, his mind was as sharp as anyone in any land. WillYOU become old ?
Will YOU be at your best at 90 years old? Your comments are shameful . Not only do you show no respect for your elders but you mock the leadership of Africans and I’d bet racist Europeans are laughing at YOU. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

Your comment here is rather shameful. We all know aging is natural and we will surely age if we are graciously granted life. However, no one tied an aging or senile man to power.
It will do us well if are at least truthful when approaching matters like this. What are you talking about being disrespectful to my elders and making a mockery of African leadership? Did he have to remain president, or is he the only one in the whole of Zimbabwe? You seem not see what African leaders have done and are still doing? They (the leaders, both past and present) have done more than enough (in fact they make mockery of us more than anything) and it is my small comment here that you point to.
I still laugh any time I remember that Mugabe went for an occasion to sleep and was woken by a pandemonium.
Africa should be a great continent but for our leaders and some of us that are so economical with the truth.

She will live in total regret if never having made it to presidency, despite her lavish life, she'll always feel she never made it to her greedy desire

This is not a fall from Grace, she had time to put millions aside during Mugabe’s dictatorship, she got off very easy, l wish we could have strong and efficient laws to punish dictators and their families
    This is ridiculous

Imagine, too easy. The man she tried to kill throwing her a life-line to boot. While Zimbabwe still suffers from the horrors of the Robert and Grace era

And I can't wrap my head around why she continues being paid by the state after all that. Africa we still have a long way to go in terms of accountability, transparency and fighting corruption.

Exactly! I am sad that we always let them get away. All assets should be seized by the government and let the family be left with a modest 3 bed house so they live like the common man they stole from.
