Manolo is the reason the film is so violent evidenced by the times when he tasked with something. 1.) Doesn't follow directions (sanitarium, not sanitation) 2.) Nearly sandbags Tony's earnings by 50% because of his lackluster negotiation skills. 3.) Gets Angel killed when he is distracted by and forgets the ten minute rule during the deal with Hector. 4.) Nearly gets Tony put back in a cage because he confirms Seidelbaum as a "good investment." 5.) Secretly dates the boss's sister.
DePalma's direction in this scene is (surprisingly) subtle. I like the symbolic touch at the end where Tony and Manny are seen crossing the street away from the restaurant and towards the Little Havana nightclub. Even though they don't go to the club in the scene, the audience gets a little foreshadow....(Also: Tony poking Manny in the same stomach where he'll later shoot him.)

Hard to believe that the scenes that took place in Miami were actually filmed in Los Angeles, but it’s true. Hats off to director Brian De Palma, cinematographer John A. Alonzo, and the production designer. But it was Al Pacino who made the movie work.

Omar knew they were not to be trusted. He should never have set up the deal. He sent Tony and his guys into a very dangerous situation expecting them to be killed. When Tony calls him after, he sounds genuinely surprised Tony managed to get the coke. Frank also berates him for not doing business the right way.

I only managed to move up in life by knowing people and being my warm and friendly self. It really is a game of connections, networking, and being in the "know". Hell even in all the jobs I've worked so far, the people that got positions or bread were the ones who never shut the fuck up talking and talking with the ones with powee, not necessarily because they're qualified or dependable.
Well it is his business. He has to make sure it runs smoothly. He seems like one of the honest, hardworking immigrants that doesn't mind rolling up his sleeves to make a living. It's just that his pace is not fast enough for Tony.

I only managed to move up in life by knowing people and being my warm and friendly self.
It really is a game of connections, networking, and being in the "know".
