So I have been following the scamming scene for a while after I got fleeced about a year and a half ago, when I was super new to trading and incredibly stupid. Thank you for making a video about this but I think there are a few things you missed. One is the friends list. The first thing i look for is if it is private, and if it is chances are it's a scammer. Another is the previous names. Scammers will often change their names frequently to ones with trading sites in them so they can get the best price for the scammed items. Finally you missed the more underground scam methods. The glim dropper method comes to mind, where essentially one scammer tricks someone in to retrieving an item from another scammer by trading the target item for it, and the scammers item is worthless price manipulated garbage. Also 'the bitskins scam' where scammers trick someone into sending an empty offer, saying that they will buy the victim something from bitskins and send it to them using their trade link. Anyway, I enjoyed the video and thanks for shedding some light on the topic.
i was once scammed by a fake gambling site, there even was a fake chat, idk how often that accurs

I remember back before the trade revamp I traded alot of skins in the community servers and what not. I can't tell you how many times people get scammed just for not doing a background check. It's pretty simple to know when something seems too good to be true, fishy, or just look them up on steam rep. Back on the New Year of 2017 a scammer tried his regular routine, the only difference was that this guy's profile was PIMPED out. Level 171, $5000+ inventory, nice comments, guides, skin workshop, etc. However a simple steam rep and I knew he was a scammer, along with the way he was buying out with PayPal. (PP doesn't always mean it's a scam they just have to be reputable) After telling me to burn on a stake and curse me out for 10 minutes after wasting his time he told me his story and way he scammed.
All I can say is that scammer had one hell of a story though, the guy paid his bills and even traveled a few places. Just crazy how people get their money. I'm not going to lie though the amount of people who fall for it is also kinda sad not only for their pocket but the gullibility.
Good video though, just thought I'd share my experience. The scammer I dealt with had the steam ID "skate" (still does) and is now trade banned. Of course if you traded this was just one of many scammers, just the most interesting.

They are cheaters, hackers are the ones writing the cheats

I had someone add me about "selling my dragon lore". He was offering dota 2 items though I dont play dota 2 (and have never installed the game so it was clear I had no interest in it). Also they kept mentioing "selling" and not trading. It was kind of funny. No idea if they were trying to scam me, but in the end I didnt trade with them as I had pretty much 1/2 of what they were offering even if it was of worse quality.
Oh yeah forgot to mention he linked a reddit post in the chat and I lied about not having an account to keep him going, while also linking a "cash rep" link. Of course I played the dumb and intelligent person and kept saying I only trade within steam. So I kept him hooked on wanting my dlore without boring him so he could find other ways to convince me.

Do you know #1 scams are skin giveaway, especially raffles where they give you 7+ tickets/chances, make you do caches for bots, and revenue on advertisements, those are the real big time scammers.
wym? do you mean the sites that say you won big stuff but say you gotta deposit $5 before you can take anything out and then don't give you the item, or do you just mean people who run giveaways where you follow accounts and stuff and also have ads on them? the second one really isn't scamming since they're not lying to you.
Good video, Glad someone is highlighting this for the Gamers! There are another couple of common things I notice on scammers profiles...
1. Badges. Click on "Badges", you will usually find that they pay for upgrades, so you will have lots of multiples logged as achieved at the same time.
2. Hours in Game. They always have tons of hours logged on at least one game, but check "Last 2 Weeks", it often runs at over 200+ hours (around 20 hours per day), this is because they just stay logged in to show them as "Online".

A big giveaway is how their steam level is so high yet the badges they crafted are from removed, cheap, recently free games; you can also check the date and time they made a badge and there are instances where they crafted 50+ badges all at the same exact minute, which wouldn't be possible without an external program (you would have to reload to skip the whole crafting animation for each badges)
They are basically buying steam level up services and levelling up with a program to skip the animations. Only a dodgy person would want to bump his steam level that fast and cheap.
Those who really like to craft badges mostly do it for the emoticons and backgrounds, which rarely are from low tier games. They pay like 10-30$ cent per badge while normal crafters spend that much for a single card only! Heck I spent like 8$ to gamble on a background I wanted because it was cheaper that way and managed to basically to get my money back + the background I wanted thanks to a rare foil drop.

They somehow hijack people's Steam accounts and try to scam you for yours and your items, then repeat with your friendslist etc. I guess it works, bcs people migh think it is a trusted friend and you know that guy for years from Steam, but they don't know that this friend's account was scammed and it is the scammer now talking to you.
I truly admire the work behind this... And I can't wait to see them banned and the item locked... The sad part is that people will fall for this and they won't be banned.
My friend got his inventory scammed with gloves and knives and so on...
Scammer are literally people who are lazy to get work.
I had one of these "Reputable Traders" come to me wanting to buy my classic knife and awp lightning strike for 700 $ but i didnt want to because i wanted them for a long time (well... the awp one) and i kept saying no but he presisted by upping the price but fortuneatly he gave up.. good to know i dodged a bullet... thank you so much for exposing these bastards :)
Amazing video man, can you not go on csgo exchange and contact the last owner of the scammed knives and try ask them how the scam worked etc? Could be an interesting story mate.
What I noticed through talking to scammers that want me to "join their team for a tournament": it's always the same few sites but different people trying to lure me into logging in. and one time i lied that i had logged in and the guy just said if i was retarded and called me a scammer. this makes me think that it's a service those side provide for people to scam others and they just take a cut of the profit. would be awesome if you could investigate into that further.
I was scammed of my gut knife from a profile that's similar to this. He add me, said to take my invent for $100, (it's worth around $125 at that time so not that weird) and then he showed me the receipt.
Now here's the thing, the profile is just like what the video shows. Then he shows the recent trades to proof that it's legit (there's karambits, dragon lore, howl and other stuffs, those poor souls).
I still doubt because there's small inconsistencies here and there.
But here's a difference, he's adding me to a csgo trading FB group, very active with 6k members. Then he showed his posts and make a post telling people to vouch for him. There's 1 admin and several people almost immediately vouching for him.
At that point I was sold because there's no way this is a scam but yup, it's a scam.
I suspect that it's a group of scammmers collaborating and trading. FML.
The worst part is no matter how much proof you have they aren't getting trade banned.
Love the fact that chairman Shi literally said “ladies and gentlemen, hello”
Chairman Xie* dont get caught slippin next time or you might get disappeared
Other than all the scam profiles that add me to 'trade' or give 'a free knife' or 'invite me to play in a tournament'. I have only had 1 trading issue and that was when my friend overpayed but like 5$ for 45 of my crates. He said it was fine but I still feel a little gross about getting overpayed
I think I know some scammers also, first they asked me to join a team but I would be a reserve if one of them was missing I would play in a tournament, then they said they had a game starting and that one of them had a problem with his steam account and authenticator and they asked for my steam account name and password. Since I refused they said it was ok then they gave me a site which I would have to connect via steam and it was very fishy, they said I had to vote for them. I didn't believe nothing of that nonsense and blocked them. I would like to have someone to trade, I need cases to open but I'm in a country that i cannot buy them now and everyone thinks i want to scam when i really just want some cases to open. But France destroyed my hobby :(
Couple tricks. They often hide game count though the game collector badge gives it away.
Got scammed by a similar profile to the Destiny guy, got API scammed with my Fade FT gloves with a great float...
Something I can’t wrap my mind about is the fact that he someway how had added a comment on his account from my account saying that he was legit, I found that a few days after getting scammed and deleted the comments.
Lesson learnt the hard way..
Hey Heyzeus! Was wondering what extension you use for your steam. Love your videos, always watch new ones as soon as they come out :)
I'm so lonely right now that when a scammer that's not a bot contacts me I keep talking with him for an hour or two till he looses patience...
