Love Middle Earth Monday. I can't wait to see how they all look with the scenic base. MESBG is low-key one of GWs best systems. I'm going to have to go buy that Mumak I've always wanted now...
Hey Andy, lovely paint job. A quick tip I got from a friend to dull down a mini if the wash leaves it shiny is giving the entire miniatures a thin coat of Lahmium Medium. Really mattes the paint back nicely even more so than a varnish.
Loving the end result. Reminds me very much of the Battle Games in Middle-Earth magazine guides. Nice and simple results perfect for some quick games. Personally, though it seems odd, I'd actually paint Frodo and Merry together, then Sam and Pippin, as those combos share similar colour palettes. But that's just me. The more I see of this series, the more I want to get back to my own LotR projects. Keep up the good work.
Regarding the sword, in the books he gets Narsil reforged much earlier and up until that point carries the shards. So I guess by the time they reach Balins Tomb he has Anduril. In the movies nothing is mentioned. My guess is Elrond took it back to Rivendell?
Another cracker m8, I've actually started painting along with these, looking forward to starting Aragorn. I've had the plastic fellowship kit just sitting in a box, been intimidated to paint them tbh as I didn't think I do them justice but these schemes look great and I can follow closely enough to get a decent outcome. That base is so school wish I could get it, I have the plastic Balins tomb kit though so might try some sort of diorama

It’s just a strange little touch I always wondered.
