I know this is for beginners, and has to generalise but I find crucians bite so subtly compared to greedy perch/roach etc. that I need to strike much earlier, as soon as there's the slightest activity on the float. If I wait for the float to go under with crucians, it rarely happens - they always seem to steal the bait so gently even on the smallest, lightest float.
Hi twincamspit, crucian carp can definitely be finicky feeders. You have to up your game when float fishing for them. A few years back we joined Phil Spinks on the bank to see how he targets crucian carp on the float, you might enjoy the video? ruclips.net/video/gQjew8EQYIE/видео.html
@@AnglingDirectTV I remember watching that video some time ago and thinking "not just me then" when they were saying how many bites they miss with Crucians. Always rewarding when you do get them though 👍
@@AnglingDirectTV Great series this by the way, my nephew asked earlier in the year for me to recommend starter tutorials that don't ramble on too much or target big carp, wish this series had been available back then. He's on it now though :)

Silly question. But do i strike upwards or sideways?
I feel i lean towards sideways but seem to lose or miss lots of bites.
all down to preference, both work fine 👍🏻
Every time I've had a bite it gets away
