  • More than 3,000 workers at 27 Metro locations across the Greater Toronto Area are on strike after rejecting what the union called the 'best agreement in decades.' Unifor President Lana Payne joins Power & Politics to discuss the workers' demands for better wages, as their employers post record profits.

I remember a time when every job was a career, you could work for Sears, Woodworth, and The Bay. All of these companies provided health benefits, put money for retirement, and it was full time. While the CEO’s make millions, the average employee makes less than enough. It makes me sad.

I used to work at zehrs when i was a teenager and alot of the full timers were paid pretty good... enough to buy a house... I still have friends that work there and it's gotten really bad over the last 10 years. Pay has just stayed flat while prices of everything else has shot up. Doesn't matter if they are a low skilled workers, if they're putting in hard work full time they should be able to pay their mortage or rent. Especially when galen weston is just stuffing his pockets off the backs of these hard working canadians.

Just like the strike with the distribution workers; they will keep low balling and/or move the numbers around on the current offer. They will hold off and wait for the vast majority of the workers desperation for a normal paycheck to vote for the deal; it's what happened with the distribution workers strike and I'm sure they plan for a same outcome with the store employees. Shame to the high company personals!!!
