Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of RUclips I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on RUclips won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

I’m 49. I watched Jordan throughout his career. IMO Jordan passed Bird and magic after the first 3 peat then passed Kareem and Russell after the 2nd 3 peat. Jordan would use anything to motivate himself. Reporters said he didn’t play defense then next season he was defensive player of the yr. He had zero weakness. Insane mid range and finisher. 6 final MVP never a game 7 his mental toughness was off the charts.

I grew up in Chicago. Literally watched every game Jordan ever played. Saw him live...there are a few people like this in other sports where it seems like the chances of them scoring or not is in nobody's control but their own. Jordan truly had an aura about him.
LeBron is the best player of the last 20 years. He's not Jordan though. The league is too soft for him to take nearly 20 years to pass some of these scoring records.
To answer your question at the end. No. It's not about total titles. Bill Russel is the goat if that's all we go by. It's that Jordan dominated 5 teams over the course of 6 championships littered with Hall of Famers like it was nothing. His regular season play was tremendous. When Jordan was in the playoffs he was supernatural.

MJ still has my vote for GOAT, but on this particular point of the Pistons changing their gameplan, here's some food for thought: Wilt Chamberlain’s dominance made the entire NBA change its rules.
They widened the free-throw lane and made changes involving inbounding the ball and offensive goaltending. They also banned dunking from the free-throw line, which Chamberlain mastered in high school.
Some of these rule changes are still in place. One of them being goaltending.

Old cat here. Huge Larry Bird fan. Celtics all the way. Bird is my favorite player & I believe one of the greatest minds in basketball as a player. That being said, it was apparent almost immediately that Jordan was built different than any other player before him. He scored 63 points on my 1986 Celtics in the Playoffs...a record at that time....but lost the game. He never beat Bird's Celtics in the playoffs because he didn't have the team yet. So many people nowadays think the Jordan Era started in 1990-91...that is untrue. If you were around back then, you knew the Jordan Era started in his rookie year. The Bulls Era started in 1990. Jordan averaged 28+ in his rookie year & put fear in other players/teams even then. For back then times, Jordan was Larry Bird, Magic Johnson & Dr J all wrapped in one....with some extra. It all sounds inflated & unbelievable...but that was Jordan....from jump. He would average 40+ easily in todays NBA. No hand checking & the 3 second rule on D...it would be too easy. The NBA was rough back then. Way more physical. You take that physicality away & it would just be unfair. When most of the league is wearing your sneakers while you play against them, that says it all. That's where "It's gotta be the shoes" came from. I love the NBA to this day. I'm not an old head that hates on today. I evolved with the game to keep appreciating it. That being said, in my life, I have never seen anything like Michael Jordan since. I saw some similarities in some players like Kobe. Lebron is admittedly one of the greats already(hurts to say that, but I'm not ignorant)...but he is not close to a Jordan. His longevity may get him the records. He could break every record Jordan has. I know ball. He is no Jordan. There is only one Jordan. The GOAT.

MJ was an icon approaching goat status by 92’ when the dream team massacred the world at the olympics. Athletically people pretty much all knew it was MJ. But I would say it was when he came back and essentially reinvented his game while still incorporating the flash when necessary. 96-97 MJ was a thing to behold. Great question. Never heard it asked before. I've watched LBJ's entire career (including H.S., I'm from Ohio). I watched Jordan through his time at N.C. (starting his soph. year). I think the public began to see Jordan as the GOAT around the 1992 Olympics. The Nike contact and media blitz helped bring the public along (with the idea of him being the GOAT). He was known worldwide. Other Olympic basketball players were asking for pictures of him during the games. If you look back at the interviews with greats from his era, it seems, they were already recognizing him as the greatest (or as one of the greatest) prior to 1992. Look at the Magic interview where he discusses the greatest game ever played (referring to the 1992 team scrimmage between "Jordan's team and his team). So many great HOF players from that era (guys who idolized players of the 1960's and 1970's) were already referring to Jordan as the best player they had ever seen. Don't know if that answered your question, but that's my "take" on it. Great video.

I'm 43, and I am from Detroit, so I was a full-time fan (we only had a few channels back then, after all) very early on, and had championship basketball to watch. I watched the Bad Boys hold him down.
We knew he was in the conversation for the greatest ever after the first three-peat and the retirement, but the longevity would have absolutely been questioned. When he came back and started putting it on people again in 1995-96, to that level... we knew it was special. He was a force of nature that changed the entire building when you saw him come onto the floor.
Kenny Smith said it best... he was the best fundamental player AND the best athlete. I mean, Jordan shot almost 50% career, and did the majority of his work in the midrange, with the 3-point nowhere near as prevalent as it is now. That fadeaway was unguardable and he didn't miss. LeBron does almost all of his work from inside three-feet, and is honestly a pretty awful shooter, though he has improved from what he was. This was obviously during the time where there wasn't only the physicality when he went to the hole, but also out on the perimeter, and you could actually put hands on Mike.
His FG% for his Bulls career is .505... and most people considered him both the best offensive AND best defensive player in the league... LeBron, honestly, hasn't truly tried on defense in several seasons.
I'm not trying to take away from LeBron's greatness, he's one of the greatest ever -- but there's absolutely no shame in being well-behind Michael Jordan.

Him being a bigger wing and suddenly life is easier to get the rim, since he has never been a super consistent jump shooter, or able to rely on that consistently when it matters. He stayed with one team, and won the big prize 6 times. THAT'S what rubs me wrong with LeBron; he chases rings...not a good look (IMO), compared to building on what you have. Ring chasing , going for it the easiest way he can find, and proclaiming himself the GOAT but being completely oblivious to the fact that it's not the number of rings that you have that make you the greatest. Jordan's 6 rings is the outcome of work ethic, skill, passion, and a drive to BEAT the best in the game. Those are what made him the greatest. He made his teammates better by leading by example (sometimes being fanatical and going too far at times) but he built a dynasty by doing that. That's why he is held in the highest regard.

Jordan refused to be second-best and took every challenge personally. Jordan wasn't just the best the first game of the season he was the best every game of the season and especially when it counted in the playoffs. Jordan willed his team to victories, he wanted the last shot took the last shot and usually made the last shot. LeBron tries to take the last shot but he doesn't seem to be able to make it. Also Jordan never would have walked to the locker room before the game was over and hang his teammates out to dry when there was time left on the clock, Jordan believed he could come back in any situation, he didn't always come back but he sure enough gave everything he had to do so. Amen, you hit everything right on the button. I'm not one of the Jordan guys that will sit here and try to argue that lebron James is not one of the greatest players In history. Because if I did I would just make myself look stupid and show that I don't really know the game of basketball. Lebron has accomplished incredible things in his career. Making the finals that amount of times whether he lost some or not is still an amazing feat that nobody else has ever done as far as the amoint of times and how many he made consecutively as well. BUT the problem isn't that lebron people are arguing he is one of the goats or even the second goat which I personally have Kobe as my second and lebron third but that's not the problem, the problem is these lebron guys seriously argue that he is without question the number one greatest player in NBA history and I'm sorry but that's just not true in anyway shape or form and it's not just based on opinions, it's based on facts which almost all facts easily point to Jordan as the goat. And what gets me is even factually and statistically it's not even close and is overwhelmingly lop sided and apparant if you have eyeballs that work. Lol yes the amount of final appearances and four titles and the Cleveland comeback finals against the warriors all are huge accomplishments and without a doubt makes lebron James ONE of the greatest players in history. Even Top 3 or arguably top 2. It just doesn't make him the number one goat and that's not a bad thing. I mean damn to have a legacy of the greatest NBA player in history next to Michael Jordan should be plenty enough and incredible. But what makes the argument even worse is that lebron James himself has commented multiple times that he feels he is the greatest ever and practically acts offended if others don't also think that. Michael Jordan as we all know, believes without a doubt he is the goat BUT he has never came out and publically told people in any interview or press conference or magazine or anywhere he has never said he believes he is the goat. He's been asked alot about the debate with lebron and him and Kareem and him and magic or whoever and he always says that he doesn't believe it's fair to label one player greater than theanother from diff eras because the game is different era to era and it's not something he thinks should be done which is really true honestly. BUT lebron will tell ya he is the goat and wants his "respect" every chance he gets. He makes himself sound like being easily regarded as the second goat next to Michael isnt showing him a d giving him his respect and I'm sorry that is just entitled and whiney. Because even the Jordan guys of the debate still gives him the second goat spot and I would think that he would at least consider that respect but he has shown by his comments that he doesn't which hurts his case.

It was highly unlikely for them to do any damage but then he dropped 55 on the Knicks at MSG.. you just KNEW they were going to win it all that year too. I think after that game they only lost 2-3 more regular season games and you knew he was going to go through the East. It was truly a shock when they lost to the Penny/Shaq Magic, IN CHICAGO. I remember being speechless the next day at school. The Michael Jordan lead Chicago Bulls DIDN'T make the Conference finals since the first time since 1988 I think. The fact that Lebron was so hyped. I’m from Cle and exactly 1 yr younger than Lebron so I was high school and old enough to understand just how insane the hype was. They were showing his games on ESPN when he was 17. To actually deliver on that kind of national hype, it’s seriously almost impossible to actually live up to that….However, I grew up in a world that was Michael Jordan. By the time my brain was able to form memories, I remember that Michael Jordan played basketball and was the most famous and talked about person in the world. I wasn’t old enough to really understand what made him so great. But when I was growing up in elementary school there was never a time that anyone even questioned that Michael Jordan was the best basketball player on the planet. There were many other guys that were great, other guys we’d call as ourselves when we played (I’m Shawn Kemp! I’m Mark Price! I’m Shaq!) but MJ was always hands down no question about it better than all of our other favorite players. That’s why us “old heads” scoff at the Lebron comparison. Bc if they played in the same era, Lebron would be closer to Shaq level than MJ. Lebron might have been the closest to him, but prime MJ was untouchable. Even tho Lebron will end up with a more accomplished and you can easily say better career bc of his longevity and all the career records he’s on pace to break, but Lebron at his best was never as good as Jordan at his best. He just isn’t as skilled as MJ, he really isn’t. No one was, no one has been since.

Watched Jordan growing up. I watched him score in every way, shape, form and fashion. From wherever the moment called for. He did things no one can. Air Jordan is the perfect nickname for him. Triple clutch/pump in midair, then scores, among other things. All He wanted was to lead teams and win championships. Singularly focused, even as the Pistons beat the crap outta him every time he touched the ball. Triple teams will do that for you. Among all, just fun and entertaining to watch. I couldn't look away. His greatness allowed for amazing and clutch plays to happen at any time. He made it all look easy. I watched LeBron from day 1. He was great from the beginning and became elite quick. He is one of the best all time. He, like the rest, are not Michael Jordan. MJ is a different cat. Reggie Miller calls him Black Jesus. People talk about lebron breaking records oh he passed Jordan. Jordan has 3 times more accomplishments with 13 seasons. 14 if you include wizards in which he still averaged high season ppg with the best of the era. Lebron has almost 20 seasons under his belt. Of course he would pass Jordan in scoring. But look how long it took him to do it. 15 seasons in an era where hand check is illegal and a sneeze is a foul. His average ppg is lower and fgp is lower than mj and is horrific outside of 3ft. His 3pt is atrocious in an era where 3pt is all the rage. Mj was an average 3pt in today's game in an era where 3pt weren't really a thing. I honestly dont know what bron is doing today that has never been done. Being big and fast? Throwing up powder? “The kid is just an absolutely great kid. If I were going to pick the 3 or 4 best athletes I’ve ever seen play basketball, he’d be one of them. I think he’s the best athlete I’ve ever seen play basketball. If I were gonna pick 3-4 with the best ability I’d ever seen play the game, he’d be one of them. If I’m gonna pick the best competitor that I’ve ever seen play, he’d be one of them.
So, in the categories of competitiveness, ability, skill, and then athletic ability, he’s the best athlete, he’s one of the best competitors, he’s one of the most skilled players. And that to me makes him the best basketball player that I’ve ever seen play”

Like I give lebron his props he has accomplished a ton just off amount of finals he has made and even though he lost more than won, it's still an amazing accomplishment that nobody else has done. BUT the accomplishment makes him ONE of the goats just not THE goat and that's not a bad thing. But these lebron fans just can't be happy with being the second greatest of all time next to Jordan, they have to have the label of the number one goat and it's just not even close enough to have the phrase arguably the goat. But what makes it worse is lebron himself has said multiple times he is the goat and wants his respect and is chasing that label like being the second goat in almost all fans eyes isn't the "respect" he thinks he deserves which is sad. Michael Jordan obviously personally believes he is the goat I'm sure but he has never once made a comment publically in any forum that he is the goat. Even when asked about him and lebron and him and Kareem and others, he has always said that he knows it's fun for people to debate and have their picks and things but he doesn't feel it's fair to say one player from this era is better than this player from a diff era because each era of the game changes. Lebron gets asked and he's like 'yeah I'm the greatest and I want my damn respect"! Which only hurts his claim worse.

I grew up in Gary, IN, right next to Chicago. I am a lifelong Bulls fan. I was a Bulls fan when they were known as the "Traveling Cocaine Circus." In the preseason of his second year, before he broke his foot, the Bulls played the Indiana Pacers in a preseason game at the Genesis Convention Center in downtown Gary. I begged my mom to get tickets not knowing she already had bought them. I told my mom that not only would I do my chores but I would clearn her room too for a whole week if bought them. That was my first time seeing Jordan live. Towards the end of the game as we were leaving to beat the crowd, Jordan got a steal. The exit was on the main floor so we had to go down and walk behind the basket. I stood frozen like a deer in headlights as I watched this man, cradle the ball in his arm, air walk a whole flight of steps, and rock the baby slam dunk...right over my head!!! That's when I knew this man was da shit!!!!!!
I started to see him as the GOAT after that first 3 peat.
    No disrespect to Lebron, but
#1 Mike never took nights off talking about he needed rest and you saw how he got mugged going to the hole. My generation's rule was "no layups allowed". You had to earn the basket.
#2 Mike had a level of "killer" in him that is unmatched. The closest to come to Mike's level in that department was Kobe (Rest His Soul). Lebron does not possess that level of killer. When Mike had you down he wanted to annihilate you, humiliate you, make you never want to touch a basketball again, show you that you should never even dream of stepping on the same court as him. I do not see that in Lebron. He plays the game like a nice guy.
#3 When the game was on the line, EVERYONE in the whole world KNEW who was getting the ball and there was nothing anyone could do about it. I have only seen mike pass the ball in the closing seconds of a game twice; against the Suns in Game 6 of the 93 Finals and against the Jazz in Game 6 of the 97 Finals. Otherwise, Mike was taking that shot 10 out of 10 times. It has been way to often that Lebron passed when he should have taken the shot.
#4 Lebron is scared of certain guys and won't admit it. 2018, in Cleveland, game on the line, KD has the ball, Lebron switches off to guard Steph Curry who couldn't buy a bucket that night. KD ices the game shooting over a lesser player. There is no way that Mike would have allowed the star of the other team to seal a series in his house and he not attempt to stop it.
I could go on and on. But the case has been made and closed several times over. Michael Jordan is the GOAT.

One stat that could indicate who is the best player is normalized +/- per minute. If a player plays 40 minutes in a game and his team scores 20 more points than they give up during that time, his +/- per minute is 0.5. Then normalize for the 8 minutes he was on the bench. If in that time the team gives 8 more points than they score, the team’s +/- per minute when this player is sitting is -1. Subtract the -1 from 0.5 and you get a normalized +/- per minute of 1.5. Let me acknowledge my birth year before we get into this, 1975.
That's out of the way. As a kid, 87 and 88 range, we all had to defend Jordan. Old heads used to say he was a souped up Dr. J. Old heads used to say but he can't beat the Celtics, and their 5 Hall of Fame players on roster. And he can't beat the Pistons with 3 Hall of Fame players on roster. And he can't beat the Lakers, with 4 Hall of Fame players on roster.
And we used to have to defend him. Old heads would say scoring champs don't win titles. Old heads used to say we want to watch him score 50, but watch our team still beat his and win.
Then he started winning. All of a sudden all of the old NBA heads had no argument. Jordan changed the entire argument.
The old heads were right. You can't win scoring titles and win a ring. Until Jordan it had only happened once. Alcindor(Abdul Jabbar) for Milwaukee in 1972. After Jordan it only happened once, Shaquille O Neal did it in 2000.
Jordan did it 5 times. Him and 2 of the most dominant big men ever.
At the time he won Defensive Player of the Year, he was only the 3rd guard to ever receive that award. Its normally reserved for big men with big block numbers and defensive board numbers.
Biggest overlooked thing about Jordan, and the reason why he can never be matched. You have to have a million stars align, and then have the athlete to take that moment.
Jordan came into a league with the East owned by the Celtics, who won 3 rings and appeared in 5 Finals. The 2nd best team at that time was the Bad Boys Pistons, who won 2 rings and played for 3. They were 2 of the best built to win teams you can find. He was punished into greatness by 2 of the best teams ever.
And they won in 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STYLES. You can't create that scenario for a young hungry guy to get fed to wolves as a baby like that.
The reason the Bulls never lost a Finals or even saw a Game 7, was because if you couldn't beat the 80s Celtics, or the Bad Boy Pistons in 7, you couldn't beat the Bulls. They were designed to stop 2 juggernauts who controlled the league in back to back fashion.
Keeping in mind the Lakers, who were both of Birds losses in the Finals, and the Pistons 1 loss in the Finals.
You can't name 3 historical teams who could run that gauntlet, and the Bulls had to run it every year.
There are just too many anomalies in Jordans stat line. Like science has proven that time off during the season helps with playoff performance. Except this one dude. This one guy doesn't even get contained by science. In the 9 seasons Jordan played 82 games, his playoff average was higher than his regular season average 8 times. 5 of those times he saw the Finals...AND AVERAGED MORE THAN HIS OVERALL PLAYOFF AVERAGE.
The easy way to explain that, is hes the scientific anomaly. Hes the outlier. You cant bring him up in the study, he beats the science.
And i agree. Don't bring him up. When you talk GOAT, argue who is number 2. Hes not in your conversation.
I spent my life as a kid defending Mike to older generations. Spent my adulthood defending his legacy to younger generations. That speaks unto itself.
Leave his name out the GOAT convo, hes proven. Like no one else ever. You'll never create the scenario, or the guy to take advantage of it.
Hes not the best because we want him to be, he just is. Circumstance and loss created the winner he became.
    No comparison.

    It was OVER.

In 1993, after his first retirement from basketball, he was considered the best of all time even if he only had 3 titles, because he had, by far, the best statistics per game, the most spectacular game, and the most impressive combination of skills, and the most feared player
In 1996-1998 he proved that he could maintain the level of both himself and the team without allowing anyone to challenge his supremacy.
To wrap everything up nicely, in the last game, in the 1998 finals, he scored 45 points (of Chicago's 87!), also scoring the last six points for the Bulls, including the decisive point,
In the end, in terms of playing strength, skills, performance, and results, he was considered the GOAT. If there are others who have won championships, no one is close to the strength of the game, per game statistics, skills, and spectacular game,
In the 90s, Jordan was known as the best athlete on the planet, he was known by almost the entire population of the globe, including those who did not follow basketball. Neither those before him nor those after him had such fame. The only one who came close was Magic Johnson because he was the former number 1 before MJ and number 2 for a while. When talking about Jordan, Magic was also brought up. On the 3rd place in notoriety worldwide were probably Larry Bird and Kobe Briant (and then Shaq).

Michael Jordan was a whole culture in the 90’s. The way A.I. breaks down the first time he played MJ at his HOF speech(A.I.) shows that.

Jordan was the goat at North Carolina, and continued through his professional career. He never stopped being the goat. He was only given one other title. "Rookie". He never stopped proving himself from start to finish. Truly the greatest to ever play his position on the court, and arguably the greatest NBA player of all time.

Um, no. Jordan's dominance and impact on the game of basketball was and remains greater than Bird, Magic, and James' combined. That's Greatness. Best of All time.

Yeah but MJ's dominance came from playing against Bird, Magic and Pistons and learning from them what he had to do in order to get into player's heads and become the GOAT. He learned from the masters of trash talking and dominance and took it a step further.

    • @grandnagus1

@@Carl-gj4ed No Jordan was dominating when he came in the league. Go watch the highlights of the game he played against the pros when he was on his first Olympic team. He was taking it to a bird and all of them. Even when Jordan's bulls were getting beat by the Celtics and Lakers and pistons everybody knew who the best player on the court was he did not have to learn from them. But you can see a lot of Dr J in his game.

@@grandnagus1 I watched MJ, Bird and Magic play on TV. I'm in my 40s. I saw MJ's game evolve over time especially when he played against the other GOATs of that era. I saw how rivalries influenced his game and made him better. I saw MJ in real life while he was filming a commercial and I owned a pair of Air Jordan Ones.
I know what you are saying mate but he evolved year after year after year and it was because he was playing the greats.
They pushed him hard. Trash talked him. Bullied him. Tried to break him all the time. Night after night and he just came back stronger, faster and better.
We wouldn't have MJ without the calibre of competition he faced.
Teams nowadays aren't competitive. You don't have a superstar that is trying to rip your head off and tell you that it's "his house". You don't have players competing just as hard on defence as they do on defence. You have players that care about stats and posters and sit out for most of the season "so they are ready for the playoffs".
      Maaaaaaaaaannnn. That's not basketball.

I grew up in North Carolina and watched MJ play for UNC and help them win a National Championship. So we knew he was great before he even played for the Bulls. He played for the Bulls during a time when basketball truly was a contact sport, and he competed against some of the greatest players (and teams) of all time and still won 6 championships. Watching MJ play was something special. LeBron is a great player and there’s no denying that, but there was something magical about MJ that would’ve made him great at anything.

I turn 50 in November, so I am blessed in that I grew up watching many of the greats play during their primes. Watching Jordan's 63 point performance against the Celtics was when I thought he was from another planet. Like TheXen alluded to in his post, the game that LeBron plays is very different than when Jordan played. Simply put, if Jordan played in today's game, especially without hand checking, he would score 50+ easily.

Jordan's lay-up game was off the hook because he had HUGE hands. I think they said his hands belonged on a person that was 7' 6" tall. Combined with his hang-time? He could do whatever he could invent instantaneously. A true "in the moment" improvisational artist.
