Does it has temperature sensor to avoid overheating?
Thanks for pointing out the SMD fuse. My M8 blew the fuse when I lowered current setting during charging, must be a firmware bug. I exchanged the fuse and its back in business. As stated in the video I recommend strongly against bridging the fuse with a cable because if the fuse is not there, next time something else will blow, possibly harder and more costly to repair. Worst case it could even be a fire hazard.
The only problem stopping me from buying it is the inaccurate current sensor on it. You can see that when you switched to power mode and set voltage to 16.8v it was showing 0.3a even before connecting the flight controller....
It's not a dedicated power supply. its main function is a general purpose toolkit.
@@DroneMesh but the same applies for charging also. You can see MuteFPV's video on this and he compared this to the isdt q6 and there was a significant difference in accuracy
@@yashasranjan8497 This deserves a re-visit.
@@DroneMesh Yup
@@DroneMesh, I am two years late to the party, but I just found this video about calibrating the current sensor on the M8S:

Thank you man for teardown. I noticed that stone resistance verticaly positioned compared old models. I have an issue with this stone resistance after toomuch increase heat affected other compenends especially melted to screen solder connection. Additionally I can say this brend change to screen socket type. Old models has soldered version and this is not easy to change if broken screen. So thank you so much again for your video. ✌️
I have 1 of these, I didn't technically short it but it blew 1 of the mosfets so I ordered the m8p and just 2 days ago it just randomly quit charging I will have to check for a fuse because it doesn't smell of magic smoke.
That's like a swiss army knife for RC electronics. I ordered one 😊
Are you sure that with the blown fuse you still have voltage at the output? It'd be nice to confirm this by re-taking the measurement with the removed short on the fuse.
Thanks for the video, this helped me open and diagnose my M8. Didn't short it, it just stopped working. Would not charge batteries, and gave 'over voltage' errors after a short while. Anyway, turned out the fuse was blown. I shorted it and use an external fuse now, for safety purposes. Did anyone ever find a replacement fuse? Some small notes, the name of the company is 'toolkitRC'. And the best feature of the M8 (and maybe other models) is the 'hub support' - when it is done, unplug and plug in another battery of the same type, and it automatically starts charging it. great for quick field charging (or balancing and putting battery into storage if it is too low or too high. It also is great for parallel charging - my isdt Q6 chargers dislike parallel charging and throw errors.
The jog wheel versions of these chargers are a lot faster to move through the settings and menus than the capacitance touch screen versions, mainly because they button tactile feedback and ease of finding where they are fast without looking for any screen printing on a glass panel. That being said, you still want to have a bunch of cheap low capacity chargers rather than one single expensive charger... so you can charge different battery types in parallel... making the process much faster.
Do a hack where you replace that fuse with a self resetting fuse of the right specifications.
Pretty nice, dude! That's a really great charger!
I bought the TolkitRC M6 a while ago and I couldn't be happier! 😊
Thanks again now I know how to use mine even though mine is hobby mate. It's identical and at $40 it's a deal
So I have a M7, 6 months old stopped working. Contacted toolkitc they said that they do not have a North American service center. So I had to fix it myself, and told me to change out two mosfet, which I did at my own expense. But it still doesn’t work. Saw your video and it has the same fuse. Shorting the fuse does fix the device. Thank you. However do you have a part number for this fuse, the only marking is “15” maybe it’s a 15amp, but that seems hi Thank you
Why shouldn't we use a fuse thats higher than 5 Amps? Doesn't it say "20A" on it?
You can totally Use 20A i edited that part out by mistake
Good video, I checked it out a few months ago. But now I need a fuse did you ever locate a part number? Thanks
Hello , I'm also troubling on this problem ,you got some thinks ?
Thank you 🙂
I emailed a uk dealer if they were going to stock this and they said they weren’t sure as they had seen a high return rate on the M8, which matches with some of the comments I’ve read here.
"I wouldn't recommend going over 5A or 10A" - what? the device does 18A and the original fuse is rated for 20A, it's even written on it... IN THAT PERSPECTIVE
M7 has it to, 15A for each side, input and output, dont ask how i know.
Sir I have another problem like recently 1 add wire like you did it , but suddenly stop working my M8 charger , what can I do now and it behalve like he don't know calibration or reset all , and don't entering on calibration mode plz help me 😞
I have this charger and theres no fuse 🤨 The pads for it are there. I tested and it shows continuity (multi meter beeps) Should i add one?? PCB version is 25-02-2020 MBS_V1.3
Comparing my one to this, they look to be identical
So glad you left this comment. I have the exact same board V number and date. No fuse.
If you see this comment could you do me a HUGE favor? I was not thinking the other night and after repairing a 13S battery for someone I plugged it into the output of the M8S. I opened the charger for the first time ever (crazy, I normally tear shit apart and look at it just for fun with all my electronics). It was pretty obvious what I destroyed. On the opposite side of the the output there is an 8 pin IC just below the USB A port and to the right of a small inductor and SMD capacitor. It blew up enough of the left side that I can't read most of the part number.
Could you just pop your back cover off and read that part number and leave it in a comment here for me? I think the first line ends in "72B" and the second line is something like "GE8G" but it could be "GEBG" or something like that. The font is pretty small.
Top line, RT7272B under that GSP76E86
Looks like 3A, 36V, 500kHz Synchronous Step-Down Converter
such a headache finding guessing blown parts.
chatgpt is handy for it, can upload pics and docs.
good luck

I bought one off BG and it worked for a couple of hours except it was constantly getting "Cell Error" message with a couple of LiPo 4S packs. I plugged USB into the Mac computer thinking to update the Firmware from what the unit came with 1.10 to 1.12 the current one. It popped up on the desktop as a drive but it was a PC exe file which is not Mac compatible. Any case, I unplugged the USB and plug it back into the external (AC) power source I got along with the unit from BG and NOTHING...black screen, won't start up. Any thoughts? I've written BG and hope to return it for either an exchange or refund. Thanks
Where do I write bangood , how to contact them?
It was the 8s?
@@vim55k same as model reviewed above
@@vim55k this was so long ago, I can't really remember. I think I did email customer service and I believe they refunded me the purchase price.
I don't get the point of having a fuse in a current limiting PSU ... 🤨 What is the fuse used for if there is a current limit in software ? Please help me to understand my great M8S.
By the way is the value of the fuse 18A ? I guess so. Awesome detailed vid I love it !!
[edit] after reading comments the fuse is : littelfuse fast acting smd 1806 20A 65V 0451020
The current limit is there to prevent escs and stuff from pulling to much power, but I guess it doesn't work for short circuits, which is what the fuse is for.
@@jasonhackman5553 ok so the fuse is here for less than 1ohm resistance between out + and out- and the current limit can handle somewhere from 1ohm to 1k+ resistance. Something of this kind ?
@@leoetcheverry9685 Honestly I'm not sure about the actual numbers, but I assume the current limiter isn't able to handle a full short.
Do we get data output to PC through USB?
Need help, I corrupted the firmware process and the device will not power on.
mine disintegrated in two steps: blown a cap - repaired it, then sitting around for a while and tells me: battery corrupt. using my imax again. nice looking crap
the m8 or this m8s?
@@DroneMesh M8. looks very similar inside. clean and so.. ah and one fan developed a bearing problem pretty early after a few hours. for me absolutely a waste of money. can't use mine any more. I'd have been better off with a second Imax, or even the replica of an imax
Yes the cap on my blown to the right side cap running for a few hours can't take the stress piece of crap replace cap still balances does not charge perhaps fuse is my issue Perhaps it is the dumpster away with it
I have this charger. When i connect the balance lead in different positions (just moving up and down) it shows different cell voltages. Does this happen to you?
I had purchased the M6 variant; it was completely inaccurate for any cell voltages. Useless as a lipo charger; sent it back to amazon...
@@MrPir84free Mine was way off as well, just went in and calibrated them all to the correct value
So how did it behave with this fuse blown? I have a problem (I don't remember shorting it) that it tries to charge but after some time I get F icon on the left part of the screen and no current flows into the battery. Then it comes with over voltage error. It measures battery fine but only with input power. Whatever I connect to the output doesn't work but in the beginning I was able to measure battery without input power.
The F icon is normal behaviour. no current flowing is not. over voltage error seems to be a side-effect of the blown fuse. I had the same problem on my M8. Just stopped working, didn't short it. Fuse is blown, I bridged it, and use an external fuse now for safety.
@@KiSwiSje I'm having the same issue on my m8, was going to buy a new m6d before i saw this. I actually did have the issue with no current flowing though. I'm gonna replace that fuse tomorrow.
Replaced the fuse and fixed it!
Oh,I got a problem on my m8, so now you lighten me up on my m8 issue, it had fuse!!!
That device is awsome really awsome
Can I send you 2 chargers to fix them?
To me yes...
I'm very disappointed with my m8. i wouldn't recommend that toolkitrc charger it all look clever and handy but actually built quality and calibration is rubbish, navigation in menu is OK I guess . My unit never finishes charging or take ages, overcharges cells, I keep that in my bag but its never a 1st choice when I reach for the charger
Same here. Worked for a month or so now throws an error code and never fully charge. I charger x8 way better.
sir can i use 17v 100watts solar panel as a input to this device?
Input voltage from sollars and ideal my capacitor blue out I'm no expert but I believe solar panels have a different wavelink for a sample it is like modified sine wave and pure sine wave inverters my toolkit RC m8s stair works but does not charge
It would work I teste on another but I got so little (watts of a 100wAtts panel ) like I was only able to charge 500-900milliamps and sometimes I’ll stop saying input was too low so not ideal
Yes definitly
voltage matters most
Can you please do a video on frsky x9d 2019 se version
no please no ! there are so much vids of that... So not interesting ...
I guess is way cheaper than a Damn Oscilloscope!!
Cool!
why you need t do this?
Do not buy the product from Bangood. I saw complaints about the product. Although I requested a replacement within about 1 hour after purchasing the product. They created a notification. I understood that it would take a long time and asked for the order to be canceled. I warned that the product could be sent until the notification is processed. They said don't worry. They shipped the product today and I can no longer exchange or refund. I think it was done on purpose. They forcibly sold the product. Bangood is no longer honest and reliable
