I can "tell my ( soil biology ) is working" when two things happen. 1) The first, as you said, is when I can actually SEE it; the filaments of fungus. 2) This usually only applies when I have top-dressed with wormcastings and/or my own "backyard" compost, both of which can be kinda hydrophobic. When I use Bokashi ( liberally ) on top of the dressing, the soil surface is no longer resistant to water. Even if it is dry, water doesn't bead up on top of the soil, and run right thru the sides of the fabric pot! The little filaments of fungus between the 'soil particals' channel the water down into the medium. This method allows me to go a bit heavy on the compost w/o the usual complications of the top layers drying out before the rest. If I need, I can lightly spray the surface, but the fungus and bacteria seem to balance the moisture, as well as the nutrients. It amazes me how different the root structure is when inoculated. The 'nodes' on the central root, each with a single root coming from the center and the network of fine root hairs branching off of that... Mind blowing 🤯!! So much activity!! 👍💚✌️👽 Edit: I have been bringing in the homemade compost for a while now and have no real issues other than gnats. And I got them before! My yard has lots of worms, so composting on the ground, I have already got castings. Usually the bottom third of the cylindrical bin is half wormcastings. I have lots of deciduous trees and combined with the neighbors, we create plenty of high-quality material for free!
For drying: Inkbird IHC200 Humidity Controller is dope. Use that in conjunction with a humidifier and and exhaust fan in a tent. Also use a clip fan to move the air - clip it on to a dumbbell and have it on low creating a breeze across the bottom of the tent. First 3 days have the exhaust fan (plugged into the outlet that turns on at a maximum humidity) trigger on when it hits maximum 62% humidity so it kicks out the humidity fast (have exhaust fan on maximum). After that, keep the exhaust fan on constantly (not plugged into the Inkbird) on low, plug the humidifier on the other outlet on the Inkbird that triggers at a minimum humidity, and set it to 60% humidity (the Inkbird will turn on at 59% and turn off at 60%). This will keep it constant for months if you would like. Of course you'll want to check the humidifier every few days to ensure your humidifier doesn't run dry. You'll have to play with it a little, but it's relatively automated once you figure it out.
grow security stopped around here when weed became federally legal, literally on every street i can see plants in peoples yard some right in front of their house lol, hell one has 8 foot trees 15 ft from the sidewalk, can almost reach out and touch em😂 and have yet to see one go missing early (that ive noticed), i like to watch other peoples grows and if i see a really good one i will usually go knock on the door and see what theyre using. great way to find new connections and new info.
I remember my first grow, I got 8oz out of 2 autos Alcupolco Gold. Was a 27 x27 spider farmer tent an the 1000 watt light by them too.. I was very happy with that, have moved way up from that now.. Always enjoy Jeremy thanks.

Off subject but I'm super happy with your BuildAFlower, BuildABloom and your worm castings. Growing some 10th Planet from Ethos and they are rocking from the combo of neuts. I use a product from Canada as my go to for my soil amendments but I do have a bag of your Craft Blend so I'm going to do a side by side to see what happens. I'm off the bottle neuts forever thanks to you and this channel and I can say the plants just look better. As you have preached it's all about timing. That is the key adding organics. It took awhile for me to dial it in but I get it now. Thanks brother.

I recently purchased a worm bin & ordered a bunch of red wigglers from a farm in GA (I live in AL) to get the process started. It’s been a super fun experience & have enjoyed learning various ways/methods you guys teach about closing the loop on your farm or grow. Have tons of dandelion around here so want to look into gathering & fermenting next season as well from the episodes Miles taught - super rad dude & love his passion for enabling others, much like you guys! Anyways back on topic to my question - since I’ve started the worm bin for about 3-4 months it was solid then I noticed a dip in number of worms. I’m thinking this could be correlated to heat (temps get is mid 90s regularly with high humidity as reference) however what’s been interesting is I noticed a lot of grub type looking bugs very actively breaking down everything I throw in there. After reading some I think they are black solider flys and sound harmless. What is your take Jermey/ Buildasoil team on that one? Ever experienced anything of the sort? Sounds like they could be harmless but I was initially disappointed in the drop (and seemingly disappearance) of the worms. My thought is- if the goal is decomposition to gather castings - then the end result is still being achieved. Even sounds like black solider flys could be less picky about what they eat than worms. Just curious yalls thoughts! Love all the knowledge you & your team share, I could not have near the success I’ve had in becoming a little more self sufficient in what I consume- much appreciated!

Would love to see an outdoor series. Seems best if it were at an undisclosed location off site. Too many complications with it on site. A small greenhouse grow with the same attention and care would be great to compare with the 10x10. Bring back a couple of the favorite cuts but take them outdoors and see how they do. What is the benefit of growing the plant tall? As I understand it the majority the harvest is determined by your square feet not your cubic feet. I feel like if you have the vertical space doing two squatty grows, one atop the other, would yield a larger variety as well as more volume.

I have the opposite problem drying/ curing...I'm near the beach n the ambient RH has been as high as 100%! I'm running my AC n dehumidifiers full blast just to keep it near 65% at night. During the heat of the day the humidity drops, it's night time that I get some crazy swings. Should be a nice slow dry tho...
If you grow quality, yield will follow along with it. That means quality is not sacrificed for yield. If you do it right you will get both. But some gardeners like to experiment. Sometimes you hit on a great new way to do something, sometimes it a complete trainwreck. Keep it fun, for some of us, it's not all about production volume and X% THC levels.
If you put a layer of rocks on the top of your soil, the fungus gnats won't breed in there. Also letting the top 1 inch of your soil dry out more between watering helps. Fungus gnats do not have to be part of it! I also use cotton balls with essential oils on them and put those in the top of the soil to prevent bugs.
If you can boil and make your own maple syrup, that’s some of the most concentrated and effective natural sugar you can get to the root zone. I want to learn about how to use tree syrup as a replacement for FPJ but I can’t find any agreeing opinions or data to identify quality, nor have I found much supporting info on why you would use a certain quantity and dilution.
If even the veggie greenhouse gets broken in to by people looking for cannabis plants to steal, maybe you could give outdoor autoflowers a shot. I assume most people stealing plants go around a little before the normal harvest time for photoperiods in your area looking for nearly finished plants to snatch but if you did autos you could have them finishing much earlier than they would expect so by the time the thieves come looking, the plants have already been harvested.
Thankyou for answering my question. I think I'm going to add my outdoor compost on my next run. I'll prob just add 10% to my soil blend, on half of my girls. Compare them and see if there is any difference, and also see if I get invaded by anything lol. BaS is the best!

Yes. azamax is not to be used in flower.. aka neem oil. YOu can find better neem oil also.. its great for bugs in veg though... use it now while vegging.. but it can have negative effects in flower and your health when overconsumed 👋

Hey would you say this works for cannabis, I've been watching this guy work on tomatoes 🍅 and they've got 2 ways. 1st way a tablespoon full of yeast which is always going to equal 11grams of yeast cool 🤔 and mix that with a full cup of warmish water, stir and leave it in a warm place for 2-3hours then mix it in 6-10L of water, b4 use make sure the soil is watered and then half a .5-1L per plantand pour on soil and bottom of the stock. Way 2 100grams of yeast, tomatoe 🍅 paste or a jam and put about 8L of warm water and stir leave for a few hours and use the same way as the 1st way water plant then use the mix to feed the plant on soil and bottom stock, supposedly 20-30% increase. Have you heard of the Green Monster Box it's like a grow box that make plants grow 40% faster and +30% more product u think its a RUclips scam, it was advertised alongside your content
question; when growing in larger amounts ie 30gal, why is it important to "switch to flower when the canopy is still smaller than the rootmass size" as according to the build a soil schedule. thanks love the information
maple syrup is a lot like mollasses so its best used to feed a tea or no more than 2 TBLspoons in to just water for instance i use maple syrup , mollasses, and honey 1 TBLspoon each per gallon then put the bubbles to it for at least 12 hrs and a little castings like 1 table spoon and then add a gallon of water to your tea and use
@@danielrodriguez7503 that's a great point but it's more of a simple sugar and wide spectrum micronute source mimic nature soil over hundreds of years ends up with micro amounts of just about everything so I try to get as much microsuper inputs as possible aloe coconut honey real syrup molasses lavender flowers I. Hi Jeremy! I have a question I haven’t seen asked or talked about. I use RO water with living soil. Given RO strips all nutrients have you ever tested or heard anything about using Himalayan salt to re mineralize the water before giving to your plants.
I have to use RO as well, idk about your question specifically but w ur setup there shouldn’t be much runoff so in a sense your plants will still be getting the nutrients the RO is stripping. What I do tho is run it through my RO then add about 1/5 chapin of filtered water and usually end up coming out w 50-75 ppm. You could also easily add an organic calmag source. Just don’t overthink it G, Ik how easy it is to do.
That salt is from pakistan and it has heavy metals... its actually not even that much different than regular table salt brother... Also... RO does not strip minerals... rain water is basically 5ppm (off my roof into a bucket) so you can call that RO in a sense... you want pure water, for sure.
Sun is all spectrum from 15/20K down to near and low IR 1000w per m3 + UVB & UVA if am not wrong, just add few uva and uvb bulbs and see any difference in growth, yield and smoking potency + taste
FAQ: I am working on getting my worm bin producing a good level to use as my main source of fertilization for my living soil beds. Wanting to keep things as simple as possible without having to add a bunch different products I am looking to see how you would approach the worm bin feeding? My initial thought is to use craft blend and mustard seed meal every 10 to 14 days while feeding kitchen scraps and greens. Would this be enough to eliminate some extra necessary inputs in my living soil beds and use the worm castings as the primary source of feeding my soil? Thank you!!
Could the mustard help with thrips?? I've had them for two runs, treated the soil with a few products before i started the last one but they still came back. Harvesting soon and looking for tips to treat my soil before I put plants in it again.
@Clackamas coot yea I'm still using hps and metal halide because they are cheaper and I run 16/8 on half dimmable ballast like 250 i think for veg and then 12/12 at 400 and the bill only 40 dollars difference with a 400 watt in a 4x4. Can't afford those led's and am more willingly to spend my left over money on soil than lights if I have to pick from the 2. But for 600 to 700 dollars for a light I rarely have that at one time
You can save some of the fat stems to use to add humidity if you drop too far. I prefer to use weed to hydrate weed. Terracotta stones work if you don't have stems, just make sure to soak in distilled water. Leaf has lots of chlorophyll so it's not that great to use to re-hydrate bud, unless you want your bud to get more hay taste.
i learned the lighting lesson just adding side lighting. even dimmed at 60 they werent ready for it. burnt tips on meristems and very light green growth i almost thought there was a ph problem or deficiency
I bought 20 lbs of barley seed and 20 lbs of corn seed from the local Mennonites (off shoot of Amish) I sprouted a cup of each to drop on my earth box 2 weeks before planting my seeds. I also have a 4 lb bag of mustard seed. Do I grind up the mustard seed before using it?
I have a question about DLI? I'm running autos on 18/6 light cycle. For the first 16 hrs of the day the plants are praying and look great. The last two hrs of the day the start to look droopy or tired. Is that because they have reached their max DLI? Should I lower light intensity/or raise lights a couple inches? I have a dimmer so I could do either. Should I change lighting cycle to 16/8? Or is it perfectly normal and I should just leave it the way it is. They are in week 2-3 of flower receiving roughly 750 par. With temps around 80°f and Rh at 50-55.
Works great.. some will argue but its been proven for many years ha... AACT and Jadam both have working microbe counts, but imho pumping extra oxygen never hurt plants at all.
Great vid b.a.s.😁 , regarding my worm bin and kitchen waste, would the best option be to compost in a big pile outdoors then bring into the worm bin or is there another way, like possibly dehydrating food scraps( due to the high moisture %) to toss them directly in the bin? Currently I am feeding them craft blend, buildaflower, gnarley barley and some food scraps (which turns the bin slightly anaerobic, so i have to add more dry carbon).

@BuildASoil Jeremy Is there a way to tell if your microbes in your medium have died and need to be replenished? Does using H2O2 in reservoir kill all microbes in the medium over time? Say 2.5ml of 35% h2o2 per gallon. (or 20ml of 3%)
I made my first soil mix the other day, I am using Pro-mix, ffof, worm castings (30/50/20) Also using blood bone meal, humic acid, dolomite lime, alfalfa meal, fish bone meal, oyster shell, mycorrizae. after mixing everything (about 30gal in a tote) I moistened the soil with Recharge by Real Growers 2 teaspoons per gal of RO water (2 gallons) then remix to keep even moisture. What do you think of using the recharge and should I keep the lid on, off or partially on? Also how long should I wait before I can use the soil? Thanks You and love watching your videos! PS.... I also saved all my veg trimmings from previous grow (all organic grow) ground those up real fine and added to my soil as well. Thought it would be better used there than in the trash, hate to waste anything!

For gnats I use cinnamon on top of soil and I mix alittle in the soil and I haven't had problems with gnats.

I recently purchased a worm bin & ordered a bunch of red wigglers from a farm in GA (I live in AL) to get the process started. It’s been a super fun experience & have enjoyed learning various ways/methods you guys teach about closing the loop on your farm or grow. Have tons of dandelion around here so want to look into gathering & fermenting next season as well from the episodes Miles taught - super rad dude & love his passion for enabling others, much like you guys!
Anyways back on topic to my question - since I’ve started the worm bin for about 3-4 months it was solid then I noticed a dip in number of worms. I’m thinking this could be correlated to heat (temps get is mid 90s regularly with high humidity as reference) however what’s been interesting is I noticed a lot of grub type looking bugs very actively breaking down everything I throw in there. After reading some I think they are black solider flys and sound harmless. What is your take Jermey/ Buildasoil team on that one? Ever experienced anything of the sort?
Sounds like they could be harmless but I was initially disappointed in the drop (and seemingly disappearance) of the worms. My thought is- if the goal is decomposition to gather castings - then the end result is still being achieved. Even sounds like black solider flys could be less picky about what they eat than worms. Just curious yalls thoughts! Love all the knowledge you & your team share, I could not have near the success I’ve had in becoming a little more self sufficient in what I consume- much appreciated!

Would love to see an outdoor series. Seems best if it were at an undisclosed location off site. Too many complications with it on site. A small greenhouse grow with the same attention and care would be great to compare with the 10x10. Bring back a couple of the favorite cuts but take them outdoors and see how they do. What is the benefit of growing the plant tall?
As I understand it the majority the harvest is determined by your square feet not your cubic feet.
I feel like if you have the vertical space doing two squatty grows, one atop the other, would yield a larger variety as well as more volume.

I have the opposite problem drying/ curing...I'm near the beach n the ambient RH has been as high as 100%! I'm running my AC n dehumidifiers full blast just to keep it near 65% at night. During the heat of the day the humidity drops, it's night time that I get some crazy swings. Should be a nice slow dry tho...

If you grow quality, yield will follow along with it. That means quality is not sacrificed for yield. If you do it right you will get both. But some gardeners like to experiment. Sometimes you hit on a great new way to do something, sometimes it a complete trainwreck. Keep it fun, for some of us, it's not all about production volume and X% THC levels.

If you put a layer of rocks on the top of your soil, the fungus gnats won't breed in there. Also letting the top 1 inch of your soil dry out more between watering helps. Fungus gnats do not have to be part of it! I also use cotton balls with essential oils on them and put those in the top of the soil to prevent bugs.

maple is great even better than molasses in my opinion, has more carb and it helps flower density.

If you can boil and make your own maple syrup, that’s some of the most concentrated and effective natural sugar you can get to the root zone. I want to learn about how to use tree syrup as a replacement for FPJ but I can’t find any agreeing opinions or data to identify quality, nor have I found much supporting info on why you would use a certain quantity and dilution.
I have use a new sponge and cut it into pieces and moisten it and set it in the tub if it’s too dry and can’t get the humidity up.
If even the veggie greenhouse gets broken in to by people looking for cannabis plants to steal, maybe you could give outdoor autoflowers a shot. I assume most people stealing plants go around a little before the normal harvest time for photoperiods in your area looking for nearly finished plants to snatch but if you did autos you could have them finishing much earlier than they would expect so by the time the thieves come looking, the plants have already been harvested.

Yes. azamax is not to be used in flower.. aka neem oil. YOu can find better neem oil also.. its great for bugs in veg though... use it now while vegging.. but it can have negative effects in flower and your health when overconsumed 👋

Hey would you say this works for cannabis, I've been watching this guy work on tomatoes 🍅 and they've got 2 ways. 1st way a tablespoon full of yeast which is always going to equal 11grams of yeast cool 🤔 and mix that with a full cup of warmish water, stir and leave it in a warm place for 2-3hours then mix it in 6-10L of water, b4 use make sure the soil is watered and then half a .5-1L per plantand pour on soil and bottom of the stock. Way 2 100grams of yeast, tomatoe 🍅 paste or a jam and put about 8L of warm water and stir leave for a few hours and use the same way as the 1st way water plant then use the mix to feed the plant on soil and bottom stock, supposedly 20-30% increase. Have you heard of the Green Monster Box it's like a grow box that make plants grow 40% faster and +30% more product u think its a RUclips scam, it was advertised alongside your content
question; when growing in larger amounts ie 30gal, why is it important to "switch to flower when the canopy is still smaller than the rootmass size" as according to the build a soil schedule. thanks love the information

maple syrup is a lot like mollasses so its best used to feed a tea or no more than 2 TBLspoons in to just water for instance i use maple syrup , mollasses, and honey 1 TBLspoon each per gallon then put the bubbles to it for at least 12 hrs and a little castings like 1 table spoon and then add a gallon of water to your tea and use
How does honey work for you? I always thought since it was an antimicrobial it wouldnt be a good source of sugar for compost tea
@@danielrodriguez7503 that's a great point but it's more of a simple sugar and wide spectrum micronute source mimic nature soil over hundreds of years ends up with micro amounts of just about everything so I try to get as much microsuper inputs as possible aloe coconut honey real syrup molasses lavender flowers I. Hi Jeremy! I have a question I haven’t seen asked or talked about. I use RO water with living soil. Given RO strips all nutrients have you ever tested or heard anything about using Himalayan salt to re mineralize the water before giving to your plants.
I have to use RO as well, idk about your question specifically but w ur setup there shouldn’t be much runoff so in a sense your plants will still be getting the nutrients the RO is stripping. What I do tho is run it through my RO then add about 1/5 chapin of filtered water and usually end up coming out w 50-75 ppm. You could also easily add an organic calmag source. Just don’t overthink it G, Ik how easy it is to do.
That salt is from pakistan and it has heavy metals... its actually not even that much different than regular table salt brother...
Also... RO does not strip minerals... rain water is basically 5ppm (off my roof into a bucket) so you can call that RO in a sense... you want pure water, for sure.

FAQ: I am working on getting my worm bin producing a good level to use as my main source of fertilization for my living soil beds. Wanting to keep things as simple as possible without having to add a bunch different products I am looking to see how you would approach the worm bin feeding? My initial thought is to use craft blend and mustard seed meal every 10 to 14 days while feeding kitchen scraps and greens. Would this be enough to eliminate some extra necessary inputs in my living soil beds and use the worm castings as the primary source of feeding my soil? Thank you!!

Could the mustard help with thrips?? I've had them for two runs, treated the soil with a few products before i started the last one but they still came back. Harvesting soon and looking for tips to treat my soil before I put plants in it again.

@Clackamas coot yea I'm still using hps and metal halide because they are cheaper and I run 16/8 on half dimmable ballast like 250 i think for veg and then 12/12 at 400 and the bill only 40 dollars difference with a 400 watt in a 4x4. Can't afford those led's and am more willingly to spend my left over money on soil than lights if I have to pick from the 2. But for 600 to 700 dollars for a light I rarely have that at one time

You can save some of the fat stems to use to add humidity if you drop too far. I prefer to use weed to hydrate weed. Terracotta stones work if you don't have stems, just make sure to soak in distilled water. Leaf has lots of chlorophyll so it's not that great to use to re-hydrate bud, unless you want your bud to get more hay taste.
i learned the lighting lesson just adding side lighting. even dimmed at 60 they werent ready for it. burnt tips on meristems and very light green growth i almost thought there was a ph problem or deficiency

I bought 20 lbs of barley seed and 20 lbs of corn seed from the local Mennonites (off shoot of Amish) I sprouted a cup of each to drop on my earth box 2 weeks before planting my seeds. I also have a 4 lb bag of mustard seed. Do I grind up the mustard seed before using it?
I have a question about DLI? I'm running autos on 18/6 light cycle. For the first 16 hrs of the day the plants are praying and look great. The last two hrs of the day the start to look droopy or tired. Is that because they have reached their max DLI? Should I lower light intensity/or raise lights a couple inches? I have a dimmer so I could do either. Should I change lighting cycle to 16/8? Or is it perfectly normal and I should just leave it the way it is. They are in week 2-3 of flower receiving roughly 750 par. With temps around 80°f and Rh at 50-55.
Raise the light or lower the intensity.
I think it's the plant memory. The plant prepares for its dark phase. You can also see this in nature with time-lapse recordings.
I would love to know what you think of brewing microbe tea using an oxygen concentrator so it’s pushing 95% oxygen instead of room air 20%
Works great.. some will argue but its been proven for many years ha... AACT and Jadam both have working microbe counts, but imho pumping extra oxygen never hurt plants at all.
Great vid b.a.s.😁 , regarding my worm bin and kitchen waste, would the best option be to compost in a big pile outdoors then bring into the worm bin or is there another way, like possibly dehydrating food scraps( due to the high moisture %) to toss them directly in the bin? Currently I am feeding them craft blend, buildaflower, gnarley barley and some food scraps (which turns the bin slightly anaerobic, so i have to add more dry carbon).

@BuildASoil Jeremy Is there a way to tell if your microbes in your medium have died and need to be replenished? Does using H2O2 in reservoir kill all microbes in the medium over time? Say 2.5ml of 35% h2o2 per gallon. (or 20ml of 3%)
I made my first soil mix the other day, I am using Pro-mix, ffof, worm castings (30/50/20) Also using blood bone meal, humic acid, dolomite lime, alfalfa meal, fish bone meal, oyster shell, mycorrizae. after mixing everything (about 30gal in a tote) I moistened the soil with Recharge by Real Growers 2 teaspoons per gal of RO water (2 gallons) then remix to keep even moisture. What do you think of using the recharge and should I keep the lid on, off or partially on? Also how long should I wait before I can use the soil? Thanks You and love watching your videos! PS.... I also saved all my veg trimmings from previous grow (all organic grow) ground those up real fine and added to my soil as well. Thought it would be better used there than in the trash, hate to waste anything!
