Always struggled with the last 3 steps in LJ, thanks for this🙏
Hope the video helps. There are a couple of others that focus on the take-off with mats. I developed ideas over the years. Good luck and perhaps let us know how you do. 👍🏽
Hi John! Just wanted to say that your videos are really helpful and that I've been watching for a few months now and have brought my jumps from 7.2 to 7.7 consistently with my first 8m jump last week. I particularly like the landing videos since my form really is quite bad still. You're much appreciated
Cameron, that's great ... 8m wow, congratulations! I'm glad that I have helped in a small way!
Do you have a video of the jump or any others you might like to share if you'd like to. If so please email me at johnshepherdfitness@gmail.com It would be a nice story to tell!
Lovely jump
Hey Coach, I have a question. I am getting relatively high height on a short-medium approach while jumping 23'. However, when I do a full approach, the farthest I've jumped is 21'11 with low to medium height. I am struggling a bit to convert my short approach to a full approach, though my speed feels fairly controlled. I have noticed a bit of difficulty in terms of bracing the impact of the jump, but my step distances and placement seem adequate (in terms of the video's description). Are there any distinctions or particular indications between that might indicate a problem?
Thanks
when should i start long jump session in the season
Power take off
Where do you get those mats used to work on approach phase?
Really liking this vid a lot John...do you have a spec / source for the mats that you use. I'm looking for similar for Cornwall AC.
Many thanks in advance.
Thanks ... the martial arts jigsaw gym mats are the best I’ve found, they take spikes and don’t slip. Think those are 1m square. An example from Amazon.

Hope this helps
