There are two things that every long range FPVer needs. Number one is a Moonlight chair from Nemo equipment. Number two is a Thermacell mosquito repellent device. You put the mosquito device under the chair sit down, relax and fly.

Thermacell is a definite necessity this time of year for flying.

I've learned the transmitter antenna needs to be up and down not left and right out makes a big difference watch xjet he told everyone on that video that the position needs to be vertical. But keep a DC charger on hand. Keep them coming I LOVE all you do for the community.

Long range gave me too much anxiety. Especially over water. I just fly in my yard these days lol
To help you get sats make sure your goggles are off until gps lock is acquired. View the number of sats on your radio.

3:23 This is why I like the artificial horizon on a long range. It's a really quick way to visualize the orientation of the quad when you're flying higher where it's harder to intuit your orientation from your surroundings.
The goggle battery thing has happened to me before too, but I was new to FPV at the time so I didn't know what the beeping meant. Luckily when they died I was close enough to just take off the goggles and fly LOS.
Next time you're out that way, take a look at Chickies Rock near the next bridge crossing to the north. Since the park is high up over the water, you can fly fairly far and still stay low against the water for a couple of miles. You can either be lazy and fly right from the park, or hike in a little bit to another rock outcropping over the river.
try 3d sewn cross chassis from continuous carbon fiber, yep its without the epoxy laminate binder, but instead like carbon fiber layers sewn together in 3d.

The wires feeding the gps unit need to be shielded and the shield should be grounded if they pass over the vtx because it will pick up rf interference
You should always run the Gps off 4v5 or 3v3 that way you can plug usb power into your flight controller wait a few minutes and get easy gps lock when the drone is completely noise free and then when you plug in your drone you will have almost instant lock.
I literally never wait for gps lock when doing this.
That location will be harder as you are only seeing about 50% of the sky but its doable with pre locking the gps.

Badass! I laugh when people say long range is boring, LR keeps you at the edge of your seat from the moment you plan the flight till you finish the flight… It is an addictive nerve wrecking drug…

super cool long range, real cool watching it. Just so you know the HDzeros will keep working down into the 5 volt range - I run mine permanently on 5v from one of those cheap cell phone charging packs. I just turn off all the warnings
botgrinder IS physically a fully charged battery. think about it, have you ever seen botgrinder and a fully charged battery in the same place??
I live in Pittsburgh and there’s a sick bando spot about an hour and half from the city( going towards Philly) that I just flew at in my recent video. My buddy who I fly and film with his cousin owns the property and lets us fly and film there. It’s a giant scrapyard with big open factory like buildings you can fly through with a bunch of excavators and old cars to fly around. And it has power/outlets to charge your batteries and shit. Literally looks like a sim map. It would be SICK to have you out and shoot a video together at this place if you’re up for it.🤙🏽

I wonder if a custom DC 5525 barrel plug to parallel xt60 connector would allow you to hook up one battery and if it tries to die on you, you just ask your mate to hand you a new battery and plug the new battery in and unplug the one which is dying without killing your googles in the process?

If you are ever up by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area hit me up. I got a couple dope spots. Concrete city, which is an entire bando town, and the Tunkhannock creek viaduct, the largest Concrete bridge in north America.
Have you thought about adding RSSI dBm to your LR OSD? Between that and LQ you'll have a better indicator of when your RX link is going to fail. LQ is alone great until it just drops out but RSSI dBm tends to fall off slower ime. Link failures become a bit more predictable. The difference btwn the two can also give you an indicator of why your link is dropping (Was it interference or was I at absolute range?)

The link qualify info you mentioned, the 2 means you are in 50hz packer mode (the best one to be for LR) the other number is the percentage of link quality (so 100 means 100% of packets are getting through), I can’t remember where failsafes triggers in, think it’s in the 70’s range.
I had my google batteries go flat during a flight a few weeks back, worst thing ever but was glad we were in a big field miles from anywhere so I could bring it back LoS.

Have you thought about putting iNav on your LR rig? It's worth it just for that time you get Position Hold to work and you look at your home built quad just hanging in the air :) Oh, and return to home really works!

Hdzero messes up with gps. You need to separate the gps and antennas.
Yeah I had issues too now my gps is on the front arm as far away from the hdzero gear as possible and I get 20 sats.

Usually, when I come to a spot, I first connect the drone to my phone with a USB cable. Before I connect everything, the drone already has 20+ satellites. But when it comes to HDZero and GPS, I always have these modules mounted on the front arms. Works every time. Regards

Bro something was up at this spot all our quads got really bad rx and video even the 5" we where right next to a giant power plant so that may be something lol. The GPS I usually plug in with a power bank and let it get sats but I forgot my micro USB so I was relying on lipo power and my shit was getting hot so I just took off.
@@BOTGRINDER yea, I saw that wall of power lines across the river, I’ve experienced similar issues before. Not sure which GPS you’re using but a few month back I installed an HGLRC M100 (not the mini version) and it gets tons of satellites quickly even with my HDZ VTX powered on. Only like $15, worth a try.

@@lolmetyuri yea, I literally just plug in the LiPo, get my goggles powers up and boom 10+ satellites. When flying around I often have a solid 15-20 sats.
I have the M100 mini version too, but haven’t had great performance with that one for some reason…

I also have to deal with anxiety and stress. For that reason, I do not put myself into these predicaments where I do not know if I will make it back with my $500+ drone or if it will sink in the RIVER! These long range flights are also boring AS FUC% because we are flying way up in the open air with nothing to fly around, under, inside of, or weave through. THINK ABOUT IT - What did we see when flying long range? Not a damn thing worth losing our $500+ drone over! LOL If you wanna fly long range, go get a reliable Mavic! With great Return TO Home!
