    I used a 41' POTA / WFD with the LDG 9:1 vertical with radials. It worked great. Just started messing around with 29' wire. Glad that you had success.

      I've had great success with a 29' wire. I think that's a sweet spot for 20m and up, but it works alright on 30 and 40m too. I'll be trying some longer lengths to see what's good for the lower bands.

    Well done! 84’ has worked well for me operating portable. 35’ too.

      Nice! Did you use a 17' counterpoise with the 84' random wire?

      @@MikeN2MAK yes. This combination was discovered through trial and error by W3EDP in the 1930s. There’s a QST article about it called the Unorthodox Antenna. I connected the elements directly to my tuner (no feedline, no balun,etc) and ran QRP power.

      Likely be giving that one a try soon too. I’ve use a 71’ one a few times for 80m and it’s worked well. Thanks!

    I use the 9/1 with 58 ft of wire and work the world. Mark in the uk 👍

      @MikeN2MAK  2 месяца назад +1

      That one is on the to-do list! Actually, I want to make a linked random wire for 29’ and 58’. That way I can just use the shorter one as a vertical with my 33’ mast for this higher bands during the day. Then use the 58’ one for lower bands in the evening.

      @@MikeN2MAK just made one today just to cut the extra for 58 or may do 71feet. Instead of 58ft. Which I use now Put it on my classic commander pole and then slope the rest downwards. 👍

    A 7? We call it an inverted “L” here in New Hampshire

      @MikeN2MAK  7 месяцев назад

      Maybe I'm trying working on a sponsorship with Seagrams, LOL. I'm going to call it a "Tipsy 7" instead on the "Inverted L."

      My son W2BMK and I accidentally did a POTA activation on 7.200 early on. Fortunately, we didn't have any issues, but an Elmer emailed me that night and explained, LOL.

    inverted L

    • @MikeN2MAK
      @MikeN2MAK  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I don’t know why my brain wasn’t working, since I’ve heard that term before. I think because when I’ve done an inverted L before, there was a much longer horizontal section.

    • @wildbill1
      @wildbill1 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, they recommend running the vertical section and horizontal section to be about the same length. However, it will work either way if one’s longer than the other. Are used to have one set up at my QTH a while back. I even have tried a 41 foot Vertical i used coiled around a 12 m spider beam mast with a 17ft counterpoise and a 9:1 unun. Tuned everything from 80 through 10, with a tuner.

    Too bad it’s only good for short contacts

    • @MikeN2MAK
      @MikeN2MAK  5 месяцев назад

      I haven’t had a chance to using it on higher bands during the day yet, but I’m sure it’ll do fine on 20m and other high bands for DX.
