    Inspired by Thandiswa Mazwai’s track, ‘Nizalwa Ngobani?’ in which the singer asks why we’ve forgotten about the people who paved the way for us, this story looks at how knowing ourselves does a great service to the people and the world around us.
    Prince Sivalo Mahlangu shares his story on how discovering his family history made him become a better person. The presenter also shares the importance of clan/totem names with the dimension of food and how some are utilized as an environmental protection method.

    ~ About Magriza Made Me Cook:
    » Magriza is slang for uGogo (Grandmother in isiNdebele) and the name of the show is derived from Prince's inspiration for falling in love with cooking; his grandmother. The goal of MMMC is to document and serve Africa's diverse food culture, one dish at a time. We believe that Africa has got unique meals that ought to be talked about, and most importantly, cooked consistently. We believe in the values of Ubuntu, Respect, Creativity and Minimalism.

    This episode really hit home 🏡. As a Zimbabwean working abroad, I can now see how African cuisine is tied in with our culture and history. Indeed, it’s more than just the food.

    Me and My brothers are recording oral history from the elders in our family and community in Chipinge South Mhkukuzi village.at school we leaned about the Karanga,Ndebele and other tribes but never about the Ndau even on the internet there is little information about the Ndau tribe.
    I was always fascinated about why we Have Nguni surnames, I recently learned that because of the large scale conquest of the Ngunis The Ndau evolved to include Nguni bloodline and ancestry, that's why our surnames are Nguni.
    I'm very passionate about history because we are Nothing without knowing our Heritage.
    Thank you Prince for what you are doing I'm really enjoying your channel.

    As l was reading through history of the Ndebele People of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Eswatini. I got to realize the links between abantu bakoDlodlo , Mahlangu , Ndiweni,Dlamini and how they relate with us abakoKhumalo and where they crossed paths . I find this documentary of great significance. Thank You Magriza . Mele sizazi njengabantu 🙏

    Hit the nail on the head. I think we have a lot of un-educating and re-educating to do. We need to undo a lot of colonial mindsets, undo them one by one and re learn who we are as Africans. Because with the undoing of the African also came the undoing of our power as a people, there is so much to richness to who we are, and in order to know regain that confidence we need to know who we are. I really enjoy the angle you're taking with food, it's so richly intertwined with our identity as Africans, apa I had never thought of it like this till you shed light on it. 🙏🏼💯👏👏👏

    Thank you so much for all the videos you have produced. I love seeing the countryside around Bulawayo and meeting the people. I particularly enjoyed this episode as genealogy is a major hobby of mine involving extensive research. Fortunately, your family lineage has been passed down to you through oral tradition and you are helping to preserve these traditions through your videos. I was born in Bulawayo as was my father too back in 1930.

    This is such a difficult yet beautiful conversation for many of us because our lineage has been diluted and there is no one we can ask about our history.. how do we even start this journey sisezizweni??…. Beautiful episode Prince Sivalo. I’ll be looking forward to the episode on your awakening journey as I am in that journey myself.. thank you, keep up the good work.

    My mother's best friend, who I call auntie, shares the same surnames as you! She has been in my mother's life my whole life. I told her I found her relative and sent her a link to this video! Although I am Ndebele, my family names don't have any animals. I guess we don't have any dietary restrictions! It would be interesting if you could discuss why some Ndebele surnames have animals and others do not.

      Most Nguni surnames have no animals as totems but apply mostly clan names. It’s different from other Bantu tribes.

    This is why we're confused about out identity/heritage;
    Jeremiah 17:4📖💣🔥
    KJV 1611;
    And thou, even thyself(Yelemiya), shalt discontinue from thine HERITAGE that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine ENEMIES in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn forever.
    Deuteronomy 4:27📖🔪💣🔥
    📣📣📣And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left FEW in number
    (GUKURAHUNDI) among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.
    They always stick a finger in the wound, mocking by reminding us that we in Matabeleland are a MINORITY. Why wouldn't we be, there's many generations DECIMATED.
    Psalms 83:3
    They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
    Read from V1 and the rest.
