I am Irish. I was astonished to find that we had never recognised the state of Palestine. Sympathy for the plight of these people is one of the few things that unify us.

Just heard the news that Israel has withdrawn their ambassadors from Ireland, Spain and Norway.
It reminded me that their UK ambassador said on TV that there was no chance of a two state solution and that the people of Gaza had two choices, leave and cross the border into Egypt or die.
In light of that I had hoped that she would be declared Persona non grata and told to leave.
But Rishi and co just turned a blind eye just as they are to the killing of our aid workers and the prevention of aid getting in.
Can we hope that we acknowledge Palestine so that Israel pull her out too?
Cabinet officials also said the next 3 settlements will be named after the three nations that identified Palestine a state. This is so sickening.
They should have been expelled a long time ago

Underrated comment!
As a Irish descendant on my mothers side I understand the pain of Ireland and have deep empathy with the Palestinians, what i fail to understand is when people say you cant have Hamas as a negotiating partner. Did the English not talk to and negotiate with the IRA? why the hypocrisy.
Netanyahu made sure the two Palestinian authorities remained divided, allowing him to use the excuse that Isreal didn't have a partner for peace. It just happens that Netanyahu made sure of this division by propping up Hamas.
Was it not the IRA who had to negotiate with th British. Who were the invaders , the colonial invaders here?
Correct. They're literally in government now. And what people fail to mention is that it was Netanyahu who invented, armed & funded Hamas. He literally boasted about it & was sending them suitcases of cash through their Qatari proxies. His aim, to decrease support for the peaceful PLO (who recognise Israel) & to be able to point to Hamas when the international community bring up Palestinian Statehood & say, how can we deal with terrorists?
i am so ashamed so many times of being irish. just as with WW2 we stand on the sidelines and interfere. then as with Hilter our government sides with terrorists. time for us to head to England me thinks just like my great- grandad in WW2
The British negotiated with the IRA when the IRA were willing to negotiate. Hamas have shown no such intentions, in fact they have publicly said they will continue to repeat “October 7th” style attacks again and again. Thats why the ‘real ira’ were created because they refused to negotiate.
If Hamas released the hostages and renounced any form of terrorism i’m sure it would clear the way for peace but that doesn’t look likely
So another bonus for Ireland, still members of the EU after the Brexit debacle and now also on the right side of history regarding Palestine. ❤
Yes! Well done Ireland!
What you forgot to mention is Irish Catholics in the north of our land were persecuted and shot like dogs in the street , also the plantation of Ireland by England , I grew up through the troubles in Belfast and as long as I’ve known we were treated like subhumans by the British government
England being England
Steals and slaughters and doesn't think twice about it
By England and Scotland. Scotland often gets away with responsibility.
You’re right in everything you say but I have to state that the plantations of Ulster were initiated by a Scottish king and primarily carried about by Scots. Hence Ulster ‘Scots’
Agitation agitation agitation is all you’ve got. Britain was invaded and colonized numerous times; Romans, AngloSaxons, Normans.
@@aleph8888 It's not an allegation it's a proven fact. Do Saxony and Italy still occupy parts of Britain? Does the colonisation of Britain by Rome still affect politics and people's day to day lives in 2024?

Ireland has a long history of sending peacekeeping troops to Lebanon. To the best of my knowledge, 3 irish soldiers have died to date to Israeli weapons fire during that time. You could say that the irish people can not only empathise, but has invested blood in the 2 state peace process.
People are against occupation simple. It took a massacre to wake the world up. I will give credit to the open minded leaders of Ireland, Norway, and Spain for their courage in recognising Palestinian 😊😊😊.

It was a form of Apartheid in northern Ireland until the Catholic population rose up and asked only for equal rights but people like paisley were not having a Catholic about the place
Ireland knows what it's like to have an external military superpower unilaterally declare that the land that it's people have lived on for centuries, now belongs to immigrant settlers. It also knows what it's like to be tarred as terrorists for the actions of a minority. And it knows what's it like to have the deck stacked against it militarily and diplomatically. That's why Ireland supports Palestine. What they are going through now, is what we went through for centuries.

@@pontifexinstitute That's not true. It's a completely separate document.

As for now Israel government, parlament and probably a big part of Israel society won’t even think about 2 state solution neither single state with equal rights of both people. I can see LBC sacking the Norwegian, Irish and Spanish government.
You are wrong Hamas has changed their charter regarding Israel, I would suggest you look it up. It os also Hamas who states that they want a two state solution.
I do not oppose a two-state solution. However, the premise of a two-state solution requires allegiance and unequivocal insistence on the right of existence for an ethno-national state. I'm thinking Corsica, Basque Country, Northern Cyrpus, Indigenous/First Nations Americans in Canada and US. There are numerous spaces where questions revolving around two separate ethno-cultural states versus single states with equal civic rights regardless of population majority. There are options, the question is what base options are rejected immediately. The primary objection to a unified single state giving all residents from river to sea equal rights and voice is the necessity of maintaining an ethno-national state with super majority demographics; that's a 19th-20th century concept. As much as I support 2-states, it is an out of step premise from 21st century statecraft and nation-state ideology.
It's true to an extent in some of the younger countries; look at South Sudan, Kosovo etc... However, ethno-nationalism exists in nearly all states, even in Western Europe, and the U.S. It can't, therefore, be a feasible barrier to a two state solution.
James CLEARLY rattled by this "hasten" issue!!!😅
Hip hip hooray 🎉
It's one thing to be a legal white Australian, New Zealand, South African migrant worker in the UK, but be brown or Eastern European........😢
When will Ireland recognize Hy-Brasil? It's about as real a state as Palestine.
😢😢😢😢Can someone please explain to me again why no European nation including the US wanted these people in their country before during and after WWII????? What did they know that we are now finding out???? 🤔
🙂
They still don’t want them. Imagine them in the uk.
I did yesterday
"These people"? Who, Jews? Listen, the Palestinian solidarity movement does not want or need this kind of advocacy. Give your head a wobble.
There is the psychological aspect that needs to be dealt with in order to have peace. This means hatred has to become tolerance. It means denial has to be accepting accountability. It mean recognising the common humanity that we all share. It means being able to empathise with each other. This is for both sides. And defining terrorism has to include terrorism caused by an army against a population as well as resistance fighters.
James love your show always great!! What you as hould say on your show the reason the NJS is desperate for staff is the uk government have let 20 million foreign people into the UK over the last 50 years
Germany and France are also having these problems Sir but they do have a government that gets involved and headhunt students for medical schools and subsidizes
Each time a bell kerchings (in GB), a Palestinian child loses a limb/parent.
What happened to the LBC journalist who was fair to Palestine?
Its sad because the only people that talk about a two state solution are people in the west looking for an ending to this conflict while Israel continues to carve up the land that would be needed for two states
Not the same people occupying the same space. One is indigenous, the other was planted, in the most nationalist part of the country, the north. Just like Palestine.
At 27 mins 47 seconds we saw your look of distain as a woman coughed and spluttered down his ear 👂
A two state solution would mean moving all the illegal settlers out of the occupied West Bank.
Israel has never wanted a state solution. The propose is the illegal settlements is to make it impossible.
This show is well meaning but ignorant.
The only worry I would have is in the history of partitions. Eg India and Pakistan. Where to draw the border and how to protect minorities left on either side. Part of the Irish solution is the weakening if the border brought about by EU membership on both sides.
Because we're humans.
I don't get James' logic that acknowledging a Palestinian state takes the idea/advocacy of a 1-state solution off the table.
You only need 1 state for a 1-state solution, if that state is Palestine that is not just valid but also the most moral outcome.
Very positive its probably the only way out
Call me naive, but I believe that Palestinians can be Israelis strongest allies against outside threat if they would join together in peace.
Outside threat, you mean like aliens?
Yup you're naive
Join? Can there be a partnership in asymmetrical power dynamic with one’s abuser? Don’t side step the harsh facts and jump to the “solution”. There is a clear injustice and it’s not up to the hurt party to capitulate.

Spain should never be compared with Ireland and Norway. Spanish colonialism is still very alive in many territories, regions, nations inside the Iberian Peninsula and in the American continent too. Spain has no authority to back Ireland and Norway decisions
The Jewish caller was heavily bigoted towards Palestinians. I wish James would have asked how she thought Palestinians would be able to gain self governance and independence if they are not first recognized as an independent country?
That's your opinion.
Also he neglected to ask her why are they treating Palestinans in the West Bank, who are not involved with Hamas, like war combatants.
Even when he has the right take, James continues to be a total lib, framing the conflict that arose from the colonisation of Ireland as, "having two halves of a country committed to the destruction of each other" 🤣🤣🤣
You need to have on some proper historians James to redress all this BS you're being blitzed with, about Ireland and Palestine alike...
The people of Pallie just like the people of any other territory on this planet deserve to have their own democratic jurisdiction. Not sure why you wold struggle with this basic concept of democracy. England is a example of that. Scotland currently, not so much. A lot of ex-British colonies can be held up as examples. The US went to war in order to achieve it. So why would any group of people want to deny them that right, except to smite them.
Nope 2 state is not the solution
the only ever obstacle to peace are the selfish, hateful and uneducated. the oppressor continuing to not have the empathy to recognize those they oppress as the same as them. human beings. hatred must be reeducated and is possible, however most time that oppression ends is when continuing the oppression is greater in blood and treasure than the perceived benefit of continuing the oppression which is a sad fact throughout history.
What is she talking about, has she heard what is taught in Israeli schools, did she not see the choir a few months ago. By the way James it was not catholic versus protestant, it started with catholics being attacked in their homes.
While European settlers are not the same people as the Palestinians.
Ireland has always been a thorn to the British establishment
To deflect from their failed government and own civil diistress?
No such thing as a Palestinian - made up by Yasser Arafat. Residents of that region all belonged to Egypt, Jordan etc. Nobody has ever held a Palestinian passport. BIG difference between Ireland and Palestine. People don’t know what they’re dealing with on this issue.
