    That Lime Tree is BEAUTIFUL!! Nice work on shaping the tree and amending the soil to help it rebound from some small issue. I hope you do get a bumper crop of Limes this season :)

      Thanks Blake. Looks like a good number of fruit have "stuck" so fingers crossed well have a generous surplus to share.

    Congratulations! You have given me hope for my own citrus trees which I hope to plant as espalier trees on the eastern side of my property next season. I move into the place in October.
    Your guidance on this and other videos will be eagerly devoured each step of the way. THANK YOU for all of them. Your updates and other videos are both instructional AND inspirational.
    Please keep 'em coming.

      Glad they have helped you some Franklin :-) Am looking forward to try my hand at grafting onto this tree soon to see how it goes.
      Cheers & all the best.

      I think there are almost double the amount of flowers on there now & wr can almost hear the bees over the aquaponics when there are no siphons going off. Not seeing many of our native bees on there though.
      Have a great one mate.

    Now THAT'S what a lime tree should look like. Seems the feed you gave it is really perking it up.

      Am very pleased with it Brian. Was thinking I may have been a bit heavy handed with the pruning shears. Don't think I have much to worry about looking at the flowers & new growth.
      Cheers mate.

    G'day Rob, did almost exactly the same to my Tahitian Lime a little bit earlier than your first video post on this. Disclaimer here I live only around 45kms from Rob and I used really old chook poop and the same rock minerals. Mine is going absolutely gang busters also... it's the first time I have seen soo many bees all over it like yours too! The only difference between ours is mine is grown in 100% woodchips... you did use a lot of green material underneath...pretty well much the same thing!

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  8 лет назад

      Hey Dave.
      I've been really happy how the tree's been going so think I'll be feeding it the same way again. Might try some wood chip under there as well if I can get another load or 2 ;-)
      Cheers mate.

    Oh wow, you got tons of flowers on your lime tree...love it. I wish my citrus trees will do the same for me this year. I am a proud Mama of one orange on my tree thus far. I hope it will multiply as time go by :)

      @RobsAquaponics  8 лет назад +1

      That's a shame Mary. Do you feed it every season? I think the compost & mulch I was giving the lime just wasn't enough here.

    OK...you've convinced me. Looking for a Tahitian (Persian) Lime to put in the yard! Hope I don't get the insect problems you have down there, but South Florida on the Space Coast doesn't have a lot of those nasties....hopefully. Watched both videos on this plant, and think my Gin and Tonics will greatly improve with these!! Cheers Mate!

      :D I had a lemon lime & bitters gin last night to use up some mixer tins. Might just go for a lime & ginger juice one tonight. Still have a few bits of frozen lime juice in the freezer here & made up some ginger juice the other night. Cheers Sitting Elf 👍

    Our citrus trees get the leaf miner too, But the biggest problem is a horn worm, When they hit it is in the 100's, They start out small but to get a good size, They well strip a small tree in a day or 2, The bigger trees are not as big a problem.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  8 лет назад

      We don't get them on the citrus here, only the sweet potatoes. We get the swallow tailed butterfly caterpillars though & they can be rather damaging when there';s a few on the tree at once. We call them bird crap caterpillars. 😉
      Cheers mate.

      Hi Hunter & thanks.
      We are fine here so it must be down south in the cooler areas. Last week we had a few days over 29°C/84°F so are having a very mild winter so far. I think we may of only had 2 or 3 mornings at the most where it's got to freezing or below. It's almost 3pm as I type this & the temp is 20.8°C/69.44°F at the moment just to give you some idea.
      Cheers & have a great one.

    Have you thought about netting the tree to prevent the birds knocking off the small fruit? Beautiful tree Rob, well done!

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  8 лет назад

      Hi Kevin.
      I wasn't too worried at that point as the tree was loaded & knew a fair number would fall off. We have a load that looks like they've set so we will end up with a great yield from this tree still I think.
      Sorry it took a while to respond.

    Hi Rob, I have recently acquired a Tahitian dwarf lime tree in a pot and it’s leaves have all fallen off (It’s start of Spring). Wondering if this is normal or lack of sun / nutrients. Do you have a video that might help educate me?

    Hello Rob, Questions please, How old is your Tahitian lime tree? I have a Kalamansi that I grew from seed. It is about 12 years old and so far all I have gotten from it was 3 or 4 fruits. I have pruned and fertilized it several times, but this year, the same. Appreciate any suggestion:-) Thanks.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  8 лет назад

      Hi there Jo & Mig.
      This tree is about 6 years old I think we worked out. I'm not really familiar with growing the Kalamansi or kumquat sorry. It may be that it's grown from seed as most citrus are normally grafted on to root stock. Not 100% sure if that has something to do with your lack of production though. I really don't know enough about them.
      I ended up killing Bianca's poor little kumquat plant a few years back as well as our lemon & Kaffir lime so this lime is my first success story to date.
      Sorry for not being much help there.
      Rob.

      Has exploded with more flowers since I posted the clip Dave. Am sort of worried for a few of the thinner branches if the fruit takes.
      You get much fruit from yours?

      @SouthpawDavey 8 лет назад +1

      I got a huge amount of flowers and the most fruit on the apple I ever had. But the apple dropped some so it ok or I would have had to thin them. with the trees I have i have to take them beck to 3 leaves as they are trained. I have just had a look at my book ;-) Says standard citrus needs to be pruned back to 6 buds on new growth each year. i will do a photo of the page and pm it you later. Might help. I have 2 lemons and a grapefruit started from seed just for fun.

      They were recommended to me by a local market gardener so thought I'd give them a bash. He bought them from a produce store at Boonah I think if that helps any.

      @@quinkath6064 We use the frozen juice in water to zing it up a bit. Use a fair bit with gin & soda as well. Have made up some lime cordial for drinks, added it to salad dressings, curries, pies & will be using some to try making some limeaid with a fermented "ginger bug" we have on the counter as well.
