I used to run the 16 in high school and I gotta say, kicking this early takes a lot of courage. Usually people pick it up with 300m or 400m to go, but this was closer to 650m. Definitely a statement. RESPECT

yep, was amazing speed and time back then. Now you got monsters who run 4 min miles as a average, if you aren't breaking into high 3 mins, then your nothing. These guys practically sprint the whole thing almost. 1 min per mile, then hard burst last mile. Edit: Didn't want to take away from stember, was trying to point out, his technique is one piece of the puzzle that makes us have such fast modern day runners.
This can serve as a lesson for all of us. If you ever feel like you are coasting, just putting in time, etc. always be aware that you have it within you to dig deep and push yourself. If a person takes a task extremely seriously, and treats that task as the ONLY thing that in their life that matters, that person can achieve what they thought was impossible. Most of us don’t want to do that though because it’s uncomfortable, it’s not fun, it can be painful. But if you direct all of your mental focus, all your strength, dig deep within your heart for the courage and belief to do it, redirect all your love, all your fear, all your hate, you can find power in yourself you never knew existed.
My cross country coach used to describe long distance running as the only sport you hurt yourself(cause pain to yourself)more than your opponent to win.
@waylonk2453 I agree 100%. Everyone knows that they can get into better physical shape by exercising, eating healthy, and having the discipline not to cheat themselves. However, a lot of people lack the discipline to do it. Rather than admit to their own faults, they would rather seek comfort in finding excuses and wallowing in self pity.

I ran for years, just for myself, not for sport. I'd do 5-6 miles everyday with one day off in the week. Sundays were my special day where I'd get up early and do anywhere from 9-13 miles. I lived in New England and I'd run no matter the weather. I miss those days so very much and I'm eternally grateful to have had that experience.

It's amazing how often this happens because people use up too much energy too early in the race. I actually did exactly this in HS when I used to do running, and I learnt it from someone who did it to me prior haha.
In my case i have terrible recovery but still wanted that A for 7 minutes or under and i would full on sprint the last lap. I think people were not only impressed with my speed but the fact i didnt gp around those not trying (which was sadly a lot of them in a crowd in the back) but inwould just bob and weave between them and scare them. The teachers honestly kept encouraging ne to keep doing that as it would probably make the kids actually move somewhat if they didnt want to run.
I know that feeling in that final kick to the finish line when you feel your whole body turning into rubber but somehow you're still running. It's brutal.
@@doicaretho6851 A kick is what happens when you get near the end of the race, where everyone just starts sprinting as fast as they possibly can. It's the best part of any race, but god does it make you feel as weak as rubber, like James said.

I ran for years, just for myself, not for sport. I'd do 5-6 miles everyday with one day off in the week. Sundays were my special day where I'd get up early and do anywhere from 9-13 miles. I lived in New England and I'd run no matter the weather. I miss those days so very much and I'm eternally grateful to have had that experience.

It's amazing how often this happens because people use up too much energy too early in the race. I actually did exactly this in HS when I used to do running, and I learnt it from someone who did it to me prior haha.

In my case i have terrible recovery but still wanted that A for 7 minutes or under and i would full on sprint the last lap. I think people were not only impressed with my speed but the fact i didnt gp around those not trying (which was sadly a lot of them in a crowd in the back) but inwould just bob and weave between them and scare them. The teachers honestly kept encouraging ne to keep doing that as it would probably make the kids actually move somewhat if they didnt want to run.
