- The HS Distance Revolution Begins Here. 1995. California. A junior from Jesuit makes a statement that will be heard around the country. After two decades of mediocrity US high school runners will see that in order to be great you need to do great things. Now, 20 years later, the US is one of the strongest running nations in the world. This is the kick that started the revolution.

If you watch the original video, when he finishes the third lap, someone near the cameraman says, "He's trying to steal it on this lap because he probably doesn't have it on the next lap." And by the end, all he has to say is, "Wow! Wow!"
This guy went on to run at Stanford and on the 2000 Olympic track team in the 1500 meters, at which point his mile-equivalent time was 3:52.
Very cool!
Does the crowd actually laugh at him? I have a hard time believing that.
@@joshuadowdle9691yes they actually did laugh if you watch the original ppl were legit laughing. A guy next to the camera man said he's trying to take it here because he won't have anything left (meaning on last lap).
My thought was coach would be waiting there near the finish line "What took you so long?" and the runner just replies "Traffic"
haters gon hate yo
It's a 400m track, we don't need it in miles.
Another statement was the way he didn't collapse to the floor at the end, Something the British Athlete Daley Thompson never did, He later said it was mind games, He wanted his competitors who gave 100% and were gasping on the ground at the end to look up and see him still full of energy (even if he wasn't).
The likes you got on this is either from real ones or people who recognize real 💯
‘Don’t let them see you sweat’ mentality
Daley's mind games helped him out perform everyone... but he also had teh talent and stamina to match.
The exact opposite of NFL legend Jim Brown, who ALWAYS got up as if he was injured, dazed and exhausted. That way, whenever he really DID feel injured, dazed, or exhausted, nobody would know!
😃👍
Our wrestling coach made us do a couple of sprints after every match for that same reason

This can serve as a lesson for all of us. If you ever feel like you are coasting, just putting in time, etc. always be aware that you have it within you to dig deep and push yourself. If a person takes a task extremely seriously, and treats that task as the ONLY thing that in their life that matters, that person can achieve what they thought was impossible.
Most of us don’t want to do that though because it’s uncomfortable, it’s not fun, it can be painful. But if you direct all of your mental focus, all your strength, dig deep within your heart for the courage and belief to do it, redirect all your love, all your fear, all your hate, you can find power in yourself you never knew existed.
Gogins says in his book we all coast around at %40. I'm starting to believe it...
