I myself have autism. People rarely realize it until I tell them, but I have it. I had a fairly normal childhood for a kid with aspergers, but there were always the bullies we deal with. I grew to be really aggressive and loud, but I'm trying to stop that behavior for my wife and daughter.

It is a form of disability. And like any form of disability: It is only a disability because society does not accomodate (or when it does, not necesserily well) for people who exist outside of the norm.
There is some anthropologists who have argued that when we still lived in tribes, people with a different view of the world were deemed more spiritual than others, hence people with autism may have ended up as shamans. There are very likely evolutionary benefits to neurodivergent people.

As someone with ADHD, autism, schizophrenia AND type-1 diabetes I never allowed myself to see myself as weak. As someone with all the mental illnesses in the book, such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, pika, etc. I usually talk a lot to my family, I can't make friends, at least easily, I have had loads of great friends but none of them understood me, except for one who was a new student he came up to me and hugged me for no reason. And only would do school work, recess, anything, with me there, when he moved, I got depressed and started homeschool. I moved A LOT so when we finally moved into a bought house "now" I have only made one friend mostly because my conditions get worse and worse, and I'm the one who asked for their phone number, which is huge for me and now I'm going to college next year, I'm in my last year of middle school and I hyper focus on biology, so the lesson here is having these conditions leave me just like you I have my own unique mind we all have unique lives and we all live as humans.

One of my baby sisters has autism and she is the sweetest, most patient person I know. She's 24 but she has the purity of heart of someone younger, meaning that she needs to be protected sometimes. She's brilliant and a damned good artist. She loves astronomy and still adores the shows we grew up with like Blues Clues and Wonder Pets. Her brain isn't a bad brain, it's just wired a bit differently and she's amazing. People look down on her and treat her like a baby sometimes (including our mom, unfortunately) but she's learning to stand up for herself and is saving to move out, as am I. We're gonna team up and make our own home together. I'm proud of her and I'm gonna keep encouraging her to spread her wings. She deserves to be happy. She deserves autonomy and dignity.

I have autism (was diagnosed late in life at around 20).
I’m the polar opposite of your brother, though neither of us seem to talk much but I mostly choose not to.
It was more so difficult for my family than for me, especially with their understanding.
I’m not a social butterfly and I’d usually be blunt about not wanting to go places/do things and when I was “finished” with socialising or with an activity like shopping, I would essentially shut down and have little reaction to anything.
For me I view it as almost a curse or a burden, I’m blunt and essentially emotionally numb and it gets tiring the amount of times my family mentions how I have trouble with saying “I love you” or that I don’t do hugs (I abhor physical touch) and it makes me feel bad because I can’t change that, I’ve tried but I can’t unless I do it out of obligation.
I don’t want to be autistic but since it makes up so much of what I am, I’d have no clue how I’d be without it.

As an autistic person, I wish you were my sister lol. For me, personally, I've struggled with speech a lot. As a kid I took speech therapy until I was better at it but it turns out that I'm losing the ability again from like a brain...thing? (I wasn't paying attention when the doctor was talking lmfao)
But speech isn't the only form of communication. I found that I'm very good at writing and storytelling and that's how I communicate my more complicated feelings with my audience and even with my own family. Like if they ask why I was sad, I would connect it to a story I heard and then tell them the story. There's also ASL of course (i'm taking ASL 3 rn) and even drawing.
So yeah, you can't have a normal conversation with your brother. But it's not the only way. You can express your love for each other through different ways or even doing something together that you enjoy or even just parallel play. Actions speak louder than words. =)

Also, if you want to know what he thinks about, sometimes other methods work better. Maybe typing on a computer works best, or sign language, or like a secret language you could use could be fun. I bet he understands everything you say and if you ask what he thinks about, he'd be happy to tell you any way that he could.

I want to communicate through speaking like a "normal" person, but when presented with the opportunity, most times my brain does a 180 and decides: "No. I think talking is too complicated. Let's just not."
If I fumble more than two words I just decide: "Nope, this is more effort than it's worth."

I just got diagnosed very late with autism. My therapist was talking to me and my parents about my behaviors that easily go along the lines of OCD and ADHD. Which now, it begins to make sense because ever since I was really little, within maybe an hour of knowing me, they'd ask if I have ADHD but I'd say no because I've never been diagnosed with it. When I said I didn't they'd say stuff like "It's ok you don't have to be ashamed by it" which really confused me because that was just how I was as a person. I guess one main event that sticks with me is a memory of soccer practice one year- Now, I've always been pretty obsessive about my grades and school and I've always gotten good marks, but one day at soccer practice, a guy kept going on and on about how hyper I was and he said that he was surprised that I wasn't a "Special Education Kid" to my face!

As an autistic person this video means a lot! I had a lot of hardships growing up dealing with being autistic. And what made it worse is that I was never diagnosed as a kid. My mom always fully believed that I'm autistic but sadly doctors refused me a diagnosis because I "wasn't autistic enough" for a diagnosis so instead they misdiagnosed me with ADD and put me on meds that didn't help me and only made me worse. This was back in the mid 2000s so this treatment wasn't very shocking. It also doesn't help that I'm a girl and girls are less likely to be diagnosed with any neurodivergent disorder. I only just got recently diagnosed as an adult after YEARS of trying to find a psychiatrist that could diagnose adults and my own psychiatrist is surprised on why I wasn't diagnosed as a kid. Although I am not close with anyone who is autistic, my friend also has an autistic little brother. This makes me so happy and glad of how much you love your brother has received and a good life he is living ❤.

This was so nice to hear.
My older brother has autism too, I always try to protect him the best I can from this cruel world. He’s currently 20 right now and he likes watching stuff like Dora the Explorer, Blues Clues, and a lot more. Sometimes he gets on my nerves but that’s ok. I still love him and I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to him. My mom has been through a lot raising both me and him ever since my dad passed. I used to be such an asshole to him, but it was because I was little and stupid and couldn’t understand what was “wrong” with him. I’m now 15 and also diagnosed with ADHD. I love my brother to death, I wouldn’t change a thing about him. I would love to see what goes on in his brain of his though. It’s hard to understand him sometimes. But still, I love my brother.

I am 40. I have been struggling for decades, not knowing that I was neurodivergent. After a very rough year, I was officially diagnosed with ADHD in late October. My cousin, who is practically my half-sister, since our mom's are identical twins informed me that I was definitely autistic, as well. This led me to begin researching ASD and doing a heavy amount of self-reflection while talking to my close family about our experiences. It's been a very demoralizing and anguished path, as my parents and sibling were not quite ready for me to go into this, after they had already suffered through so much trauma with me from my unsupported neurodivergent needs.
At one point, I felt incredibly alone and lost. As though my mother was incapable of understanding my plight, my father had thoroughly given up on me, and my sister did not care about me.
But then, my sister finally came and visited us, and I got to talk to her, after months of trying to reach her. The love you and your younger brother have for each other brought my memories of my sister and finally making up recently, and her listening to me as I told her what I had realized about myself, as well as how I hoped to be better suited to help my nephew, her son, who is also on the spectrum.
I also have a Traumatic Brain Injury. I have healed as much as possible from the TBI, but the damage incurred from it that was unable to be healed will last for the rest of my life. It affects my memory, emotional response (already troublesome due to the interplay of ADHD and autism), and executive function. Because I am a low-support neurospicy person, it is easy for others to forget that I still have a TBI. My mother regularly forgets that I am easily able to forget details about life around me, especially when I am heavily focused on several important tasks that must be done. While I was trying to get her to understand why I felt that my dad was the source for my inheritance of autism, she kept making mention about how he had taken my accident and dealing with all of the messes around me as I slowly became lucid, while a lawsuit was under way on my behalf.
She kept acting like I should have known better, when I did not know anything about their struggles to the degree they experienced them while I was not lucid. Or they told me stuff, and it promptly was filed away and the networked information was not linked to a root item to make it easily accessible. But as she told me again what both she and my dad went through, a terrible sense of loss and anguish quickly overtook me. And I realized that despite the anger and frustration of my dad, he absolutely wanted me to be around, even if he was super frustrated and dealing with medical complications from military service.
Your wonderful video made me think of all of my close family relationships in an instant, and how my sister and my parents all love me, despite being a triple play of neurodiversity: TBI, ADHD, and ASG (lots of neurodivergents call my type: AuDHD). Your video is excellent.

This made me cry. I had a brother with an unknown illness, completely disabled since birth, but all the same things. He grew up with 3 big sisters (poor thing). We were protective of him, I remember yelling at someone who kept staring at him. Also got mad when people would just randomly take pictures of him to post online.
I was the only sister he never said the name of, and I never knew how he really felt about me. It’s been almost 2 years since he passed away.
I’m glad you have such a close relationship with your brother.

I'm pretty sure kids make fun of my brother so any time I would meet someone who was genuinely nice to him, I would have full respect for those people. My brother is the reason why I'm looking into an autism diagnosis for myself. I'm in marching band and concert band and my brother is also in band. He's going to be joining marching band next year and I'm so excited for him because he loves watching marching band performances and loves watching me perform. I love him so much and I don't know what I would do if I didn't have him. I'm so happy because of him.

Then one day me and another one of my cousins were running around and playing and he wanted to join in. He made the game so much more fun and it was only then that I understood that autistic people are just like you and me, just a little different, and we should never judge someone based off their special needs.❤
