Twenty years ago this would have been beyond all comprehension. Two SDR tuners and two top notch antennas, and all controlled from a lap top is just awesome. Don't know why you have not garnered more subscribers because you are one of the few channels that are pioneering this fabulous radio technology at the moment. Thank you for taking the time in your busy life to share this. To have you as a friend I can't put into words buddy 👍 Tam.
Hi B, thanks for your comments. Well yes, I think you're right. More subscribers would be good and whilst I'm trying to upload at least 50 videos per month, I don't have as much time to engage with other youtubers right now, which I'm sure is slowing the growth of the channel. However, work and family has to come first. You'll always be my bestie Sir, you know that. 73! Clint
Oxford Shortwave Log Goes without saying Clint, afraid I am a very private and not very media friendly person I tend to shy away from it. Anyway RUclips allows me to have great friends that I would never other wise have if you know what I mean. As for yourself I understand totally what you are saying 👍 Tam.
Rather than use a long feed line from the antenna (outside) to the SDR (inside) and a short USB cable to the computer, I put the SDR in a waterproof container outside with a short feed line and a long USB cable to the computer. Keeping the feed line, which is susceptible to RFI, as short as possible and outside yields dramatically improved results and since everything is digital on the USB cable, having it run inside past electrical outlets and who knows what else is of no concern. You might want to consider such an arrangement.
Hi there, that's a good idea, although my solution was to use a laptop with an SSD which generates almost no observable noise. Operate if off the mains also and you have a solution that doesn' require putting the receiver outdoors. Nothing wrong with your set-up though - it makes a lot of sense. 73! Clint
Thanks for info, now know not to try the RSPduo until win the lottery and an get a high spec laptop with solid state drive HI Will try something cheaper like a dongle.
Hi Clint ! Glad you find your RSPduo a great product. My own experience is not as enthusiastic though ... One has to continuously adjust the gain slider to avoid images / overload this SDR seems easily prone to. However, I totally agree with you on the fact that it provides an amazing price / coverage / overall behaviour ratio, but in terms of sheer performances, my Airspy HF+ is far better to pick up weak signals among loud ones (no overload at all, better sensitivity). Actually, I now only use my duo for UHF and above, ranges the HF+ does not cover. Owning both does the trick !! (note : I can understand how difficult it can sometimes be to give a mixed opinion when one is supposed to praise a given product !). BTW, speaking of laptop, could you recommand a "mains -QRM-free" unit, 15/17" ? I'll be soon looking for a "quiet" one (my current Asus N750JV laptop generates huge RFI when running on its power adapter ; this means I have to use its internal battery to benefit from a clean reception, reducing autonomy to barely 2 hours). Kind regards, Pat.
Hi Patrick, I hope you're well. Sorry to hear you've not had such a good experience with images. I have found this is the case only on LW and ith the RSP1A, not the duo. I resolved the problem using the MW/FM notch filter. Otherwise, in terms of sensitivity and selectivity, there's nothing to choose between the two - both excellent at their respective price-points. Regarding a laptop, I use a Lenovo with a SSD hard drive. I'm sure any laptop with an SSD drive will be ok, they're just much less noisy than those with mechanical hard drives. Better still of course to operate off the mains, which means battery life is quite important. As I said, both of my windows laptops are Lenovo and proven to be excellent. Hope this helps. 73! Clint
Hi Clint ! I forgot to mention I was refering to FM and air band (I haven't tested the duo on HF yet). FM DX'ing is a pain using the RSP at my location, although there's only 3 stations running less than 1kW within 5 km). Thanks for the tip about SSD hard drive and the Lenovo laptops. Have a nice day ;-)
It's a Lenovo Idea Pad 520S. 8GB RAM, 128 GB SSD. SSD not huge, but I transfer recordings on a separate USB hard drive - those that I don't delete once uploaded. 73! Clint
Like wise have just taken delivery of out 1sr SDRDUO but havnt had any real time to play yet. In relation your Ram is that 8Mb ( Megabytes ) or 8GB ( Gigabytes ) or ram. ?.
Thank you for your very interesting videos. Would it be possible to have a comparison between the antennas NTi MegaLoop and MegaDipol for the same frequency? Thank you !
Yeah I know how you mean, I have to use it too because that's the same case with the Linux Versions. I've been doing good, since youtube changed how the partnership works and I don't get money anymore I haven't felt like uploading anything anymore, also the shortwave bands started to dry up in the US so I haven't listened too much recently, IDK if it's gotten better again now but a lot of the nice stations and programs to listen to are gone.
Exactly. Windows is unfortunately the only operating system that's properly supported by the hardware manufacturers. I'm not getting any money from RUclips either - well I haven't recently. So are you not using your ICF-SW7600GR these days? I got my Ham license at the end of last year and I've just set up an HF station. You should do the same? There's 3 million Hams globally (apparently lol) 73! Clint
Yeah, I managed to get Windows 7 again though so after a little bit of tweaking the settings I am all good now :3 I haven't been using it much since there's not really anything on shortwave lately this year. Funny thing is I did the opposite recently and actually just revoked my amateur license in February, American HAMs suck. You're lucky though being around europe, you'll have a good time just steer clear of the autistic manchildren on the american forums like RadioReference. Do make some videos in the future of you having some shortwave QSOs that'll be pretty cool to see.

I understand Sir. Just 500% better to have you here my friend. 73! Clint
Fantastic video ! Thank you !
Glad you liked it!

Hi Patrick, ah ok! Good luck with your laptop purchase. Both of my Lenovos are performing really well and no appreciable noise. 73! Clint
What's the reference of your bigger Lenovo ? (I mean the one with the largest screen) Thanks !
It's a Lenovo Idea Pad 520S. 8GB RAM, 128 GB SSD. SSD not huge, but I transfer recordings on a separate USB hard drive - those that I don't delete once uploaded. 73! Clint

8GB 73
How to remove the noise please show that explicitly.
I can't right now but maybe at some point.

Hi there, I do have some direct comparison videos which I will upload when the Nantes stuff is finished. Thanks and 73! Clint
You're in Nantes?
Yes
Ew windows 10 lol
Lol! It's a case of having to use window the mac version (SDR Cube) isn't that great. How are you anyway? Not seen you around much. 73!
