Music is not a crime - music connects.
In 2020, members of the band Irdorath took part in peaceful protests against violence and lawlessness in Belarus by playing the bagpipes, supporting and inspiring Belarusians. Because of that participation, they were arrested in 2021 and sentenced to two years in prison. After their release and escape from Belarus in the summer of 2023, the band is now trying to stand on their own musical feet again.
The solidarity project #freeIrdorath brings together a wide variety of artists and musicians to draw attention to their fate. The heart of the project is one of the best known songs by Rio Reiser, which was reinterpreted by the artists involved. With the song "Hold on to your love", the musicians want to show their solidarity with their friends from Irdorath and draw attention to the many other artists who are being unjustly persecuted worldwide.
The #freeIrdorath solidarity campaign is a project supported by various artists and musicians. Luci van Org and Wim from The Kingspipers created the musical framework with musical and vocal support from Fuchsteufelswild, Tanzwut, Gossenpoeten,stimmmacht, Corvus Corax, Benni Cellini (Last Instance), Celtica Pipes Rock!, Ost von Hämatom, Doctorella , Feline & Strange, Rick J. Jordan, and ingmar. create a musical declaration of love to freedom.
Production was taken over by Luci van Org and Victor Hildebrand, who also did the mixing and mastering in the Knochenland studios in Berlin.
