I have the Kuat Pivot V2. It's great quality. However, on their website it does mention to never use with a vertical or hanging bike rack for safety reasons. 😮
I have the Kuat bike rack and I got say this swing out is a upgrade trying to get in the back off my 4runner with bikes loaded is a pain nice swing out I will be upgrading to this soon.
I have a 3/4 ton 4x4 Dodge Ram (diesel). I pull a camp trailer and put a hitch receiver on the front, and then I put bikes up there on a rack. However, the rack is fine for the older bikes, but it knocks them together. I wonder what it would look like if I put your bike rack up front. Lately I have been putting the bikes inside our camp trailer and this does not make my wife happy!!! I can also put one bike inside the canopy for short trips, but this is a hassle. Anyway, this is a great review. It has given me a number of things to think about. Particularly for short trips when I have a number of bikes (Grandchildren) to take. Thank you for posting this.
I like that drawer system in your truck! I've got a suburban- any input you give is greatly appreciated on where I can get such a drawer system. Oh the bike rack is nice too! LOL
@@hardtailparty Kool thanks! Reading more comments on this video I noticed you said you're swinging kuat swing broke. So do you still recommend this one or a different brand?
Thank you for the video. I have a 2020 Sprinter and just bought a Kuat Base bike rack + 2 add-on. I'm deciding between purchasing the Kuat Pivot v2 swing arm or the RakAttach swing arm. On the whole, the Kuat Pivot v2 has solid reviews from people who just got it. However, there are also several complaint/reviews indicating that the Pivot v2 broke after being used a few times. Some comments out there indicate that the RakAttach is just a more solidly built product. The RakAttach weighs 43lbs and can carry a max load capacity of 275lbs, vs the Kuat which weighs 39lbs with a max load capacity of 250lbs. Any experience with the RakAttach or thoughts?
Question! How stable is it when driving? That is my one main concern. Just bought a velocirax and it does shake a bit when driving down a bumpy paved road even with the rubber bands on the brake lever mod. Funny, I have an 07 Tundra with a 3/1” lift similar to yours it looks like and we are running into the same issue with this rack. Hard to camp with it but otherwise we love being able to lug so many bikes.
I am looking for a swing out but not sure the Kuat will work. I have the 6 bike Velocirax and EMTB’s. Do you know which swingout could handle that load? Will you stay with Kuat or do you have another in mind now?
@@hardtailparty dang… I just want something for a vertiyak kayak holder and 60 lbs worth of kayaks. Not sure if that’s too heavy. What is your current setup?
@@hardtailparty ok yea I watched that video, wasn’t sure if you meant that was the one that broke or not. I kind of want the rigd but not sure how much of a pain in the butt it would be to have to open it to access the back doors of my sprinter van every time. Do you think it’d be a hassle/would you get it if you had a sprinter?
I have the Pivot 2 with the Kuat 4 bike rack and found there is a ton of flex to the setup once the rack is loaded to the point that I worry the bikes are going to scrape the pavement when going over bumps. Even contacted Kuat about this issue. Wondering what your experience has been with this setup loaded with 6 bikes on the Velocirax. Thinking of switching racks.
Steve- Just received my Velocirax 4 bike rack. I just sent an email to Bryce indicating I has having an issue with the anti wobble feature. The V wedge only wants to move to the side, not upward when I side the unit into the hitch. Off the hitch I can get the wedge to move equally side and up if I manipulate the wedge as I tighten. Did you guys have any issues with this feature?
No, we don't have this issue. Are you using yours with a pivot v2, or straight into your hitch? Their design expands the wedge both vertically and horizontally. They'll walk you through the troubleshooting if something is weird.
@@hardtailparty The wedge is on the corner and should move in both directions, up and out as you tighten. I talked with Bryce and I think I figured out the issue. Off the hitch the wedge would only move out, but if put pressure on the side of the wedge, just enough to get the wedge to move upward it then would supply equal pressure top and side. Installed the rack back into the hitch and applied press from the side, it seem to work.... Your experience scared me to put the Velocirax on the Kuat. It's the V rack is now on the Ford Expedition. My 4 rack weights close to 85lbs. How many bikes did you have on the rack when the Kuat failed? According to Kuat the Pivot V2 should handle 4 bikes.
Does your rack bounce forward and back (rocking) when on uneven roads? I use this with a North Shore four bike rack and the rack bounces quite a lot when the truck hits a dip in the road and the bike rack gets unweighted for a moment. Any suggestions to correct this?
Steve - I have the same Kuat Pivot V2 rack on my Ford Transit HD350. I'm looking at the Velocirax 4 bike rack. A couple of questions. One is fit, current I use a Thule XT Pro with no issues for the Swing out doors. Looking at the measurements with the door open (90%) the tire fenders holding the front tire would hit. My thought was the but the rack in the "Lean" position I say you do in the "unboxing" video. I was told by Lolo Racks that the Kuat V2 was way to "flimsy" for the Lolo. I rather order the Velcoirax just worried about Kuat handing the load. My tongue weight is 700 lbs on the Ford and the Kuat can handle 250 lbs. Any thoughts, how has the setup worked for you guys?
I need to do a follow up review. The just hasn't been as sturdy as I had hoped. The velocirax is super sturdy. My kuat actually broke from a load of 220 lbs. I would rate the limit closer to 180-200. That said, the convenience was really nice before it broke.
@@hardtailparty Can I assume the Kuat failed with extended? I'm looking at 3 or 4 rack, I would say 99% of the 3 bikes is it. Bryce at Velocirax sent me an email message indicating the Kuat swing arm will add more bounce to the overall setup. FYI Lolo Racks is almost ready to launch their swing rack and according Lolo it can handle the load and will be much more stable than the KV2 swing arm.
@@hardtailparty The receiver part of the Kuat is open, allowing the hitch bar to slide further in. Moving the V Rack closer to the truck (6-8") would reduce load fatigue. A design upgrade to the V Rack would be to add 1-2 extra holes along the hitch bar to give the unit added flexibility
If you've got 5 bikes on there, it means your bikes are upside down with the seats and bars on the ground. Not ideal when I just need to get into the tailgate area. If the rack is unloaded, it's a lot easier, but it's still a hassle.
You could cut down the rack assuming you don't plan to sell it on, it looks like box section? Possibly enquire with the manufacturer or speak to a fabricator.
Could you all give us an update on how that's been working for you because I'm worried about the warning from kuat not to do what you're doing. Maybe it's working for you I'd like to know
Awesome setup. I like the combo.
Nice video! Just bought one to install on our RoadTrek camper van.

Super glad I found this, waiting for my 3 bike version and the Piviot
The pivot didn't hold up, i don't recommend it in this config.

They make up to a 7 bike carrier. It's great for family trips. I think it'd be tough to see past if it was on your front bumper
Nice. Throw some bikes on there. Curious how well it works when its loaded.

I read in the comments that this broke. Did you buy another swing away hitch after and if so which one? It’s so hard to pick one online 😅
Yes I did, but that one broke too. Vertical racks destroy swing outs apparently.
