Its legit. Bought one today and i am genuinely impressed. I dont like pull throughs and they didnt have the stone i wanted so i tried it out. The old seal pup wasnt even this sharp out of the box
@@RockyMountainEDC But the edge was also pretty resilient. Like, after you ruined the edge in the beginning, it still did an okay job of cutting the paper lol
Ive been using this sharpener as well for a while now. One recommendation i have is whe using the strop, go from tip to heel of the blade. Since you are going backwards with the knife going tip to heel will result in going in the same direction as when using the stone. If you go from the heel to the tip you end up basically making x's on the edge, that will still help but not as much as going in the same direction and really refining the scratches from using the diamond stone.
Remember to remove the ceramic rod once in a while and clean it with dish detergent, warm water ab a rough sponge. I just did mine after having it loaded up with steel. It was all black and wouldn't work anymore. After I cleaned it, it was clean and white and worked like new.
I've been wanting to do that myself, how do you remove the rod on this thing? The stones come out easy but can't figure out the best way to get the rod out.
@@NicTrzeb-oj2up At the end of the rod before the red turn knob on the black plastic, there's a silver pin. You have to push it though. I do it with a thin Philips driver. After you push the pin through, pull the rod outward from holding the red turn knob.
This thing sucks. The only thing it is good for is to carry on a hiking trip when you have no other means of sharpening. Even then i think I would rather try to sharpen my knife on a rock. The strop and compound sucks, the grit size of the stones sucks, and the surface area is too small. Also because the ceramic rod is round it makes it worthless, it loads up fast and is almost impossible to clean. You'll just wind up convexing all your edges and have overall terrible results.
I believe most use between 15-20 degrees! This will sharpen to 20 degrees which is plenty good for sharpness , but may differ slightly from the factory edge grind
@@RockyMountainEDC thanks! I'm considering a bugout worksharp edition but can't really justify the cost. I’m actually impressed by how well it cut after you terrorized that edge in the beginning. Gotta love Spyderco.
That is a positive of 8Cr13mov, sharpens easily

Those things are amazing, I used to have an in depth on my channel but I had to take it down
Now try again with spyderco maxamet steel!
Been wanting this for a while and picked it up for Father's Day and man o man I've run out of knives to sharpen
It’s my favorite. Great for sharpening at home or on the go
Bought a week ago i keep seeing good reviews i wanna try it myself and see
Make sure not to roll the tip of the knife off the edge of the stone it will dull it
Only spyderco knifes can still cut after that
Use the horl

True story!
Is the leather strop replaceable? It’s not going to last nearly as long as the sharpening stones are.
It is replaceable!
What secondary angle is generally on knives like this? Does the 20 degrees work well with something like a bugout?

Depending how dull it is , you may need a coarser grit stone . Or it will just need to spend longer on the field sharp
