Don’t know what you’re on about at 9:26. It’s called a unison bend and he is doing two of them so it’s the route note and he is also doing the 3rd, so it’s harmonised.
That’s how they get that evil demonic sound. Nothing diminished here, that’s a completely different thing. Gates does this alot, for example on multiple ocations in Save me.
But otherwise nice reaction as always.
True, the lead bends up to root and third. I'm sure he heard the diminished arpeggios in the rhythm and assumed they were outlining the lead.
@@bojkennovenwait after hearing this again what he was talking about might be correct. I thought there were two leads doing a unison bend where one was doing route and one was doing 3rd, but it kinda sounds like it’s one doing 3rd and one doing a minor 5th, and that would make it diminished in relation to the D the rhythm is playing and the F in the other lead. I might stand corrected.
But anyways doesn’t matter, if I’m gonna be correcting people I better know my shit, and I clearly don’t… 💀
@@synystergates5728 I personally agree with your original statement. I hear a D and an F in the lead, with the occasional D-F-Ab (diminished) arpeggio in the rhythm.
Also, you're thinking of a diminished fifth, not a minor fifth. A minor fifth would be the quarter tone between the fifth and the diminished fifth/augmented fourth. In triadic harmony, when potentially perfect intervals (fourth, fifth, octave) are raised or lowered by a half step, they're considered augmented or diminished, not major or minor.

I thought the single note itself was called a minor 5th in the scale, and the 1, 3 and b5 triad forms a diminished chord. But again, thanks for clearing that up!
About the major/minor thing; in a major 7th chord it’s called major when the 7 is played a half step over the usual 7 in the scale, why is that called major?
@@synystergates5728 It's called a major seventh chord because the interval between the root and the third is a major third, and the interval between the root and the seventh is a major seventh. For this reason, and for clarity, they're sometimes called major-major seventh chords, where the first major describes the quality of the third, the second major describes the quality of the seventh, and the perfect fifth is implied. The difference is that fourths, fifths, and octaves can be perfect, but seconds, thirds, sixths, and sevenths can't.
In reality - perfect fifth, minor seventh, major seventh - they're all just quality+size pairs that describe how many half steps are between the root and the note in question. A diminished fifth is six half steps above the root, a perfect fifth is seven, and an augmented fifth is eight. Similarly, a minor seventh is ten half steps above the root, and a major seventh is eleven, but there's no pitch in between (in a twelve-tone scale).
