  • We sailed from Galveston ,Texas on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas Cruise ship for a 7 day Caribbean cruise to Roatan Honduras, Costa Maya Mexico and Cozumel Mexico. This video is part 3 of the 4 video cruise series. It's our first cruise, so we share our perspective as first-timers, prices on the island, as well as excursions.
    Costa Maya is located in Mahahual Mexico in the riviera maya off the Caribbean coast of Mexico. Costa maya was created by and for cruise ships. In this video we will show you the port of Costa Maya and what beaches to check out while visiting Mahahual.

    I love this area of Mexico. Great by cruise but better as a loop on land/sea. Fly into Chetumal, take the bus to Bacalar (Lagoon of 7 colors) for a few days, then bus to Mahahual for a couple day ( I recomend Luna de plata at the end of town because it quiet). From their take a cab to Xcalak for ultimate private beach experience.(book hotel ahead as I thing there is only one or two). From their take a private boat to Ambergris caye, Belize. (you will need to ask around I think the mayor act as custom agent and boat captain) Probably the best beach holiday I have ever had.

    That is such a beautiful spot! Very touristy, but as a cruise ship port it is great. 🥥That hammock looked mighty inviting, I must say. 🌴 It's good to see Kevin's family enjoying the cruise too!

    There are places that one was fortunate to visit many years ago that are now not worth the visit due to their deterioration from exploding tourist crowds and the relative loss of their charm and grace (I live in one such place so don't flame). The so-called Maya Riviera is one such place.
    I assisted in the reasearch for the Lonely Planet >the Maya Riviera< book in the late 1990s, traveling that coast from top to bottom. It was already a bit of a plastic zoo then, I imagine it's a carnival now. Inland Yucatan, sure. The Maya Riviera, no thanks. Mexico has so much too offer!
    En ese recorrido de investigación para la guía Lonely Planet alquilamos un coche y yo hice de chofer. Recorrimos ese tramo de carretera a Majahual. Lo recuerdo muy bien porque la superficie era puro crater y nada como está ahora (según Google Street View).

    This looks like great revenue for the locals and jobs etc. But that many ships of people in one area is way too many for my comfort level. Giving me Disneyland vibes, trying to navigate through the crowds. Salt water pool looked nice though! 🌴

    Does the Mahahual beach have snorkeling? I've seen other cruise videos that recommend not leaving port or to be very wary of scammers when taking the taxi to the beach. In your experience, were the taxi driver aggressively pushing you to go to their "special" beach club? Is it possible to just take the taxi and then just tell them no just take us to the beach and then we can choose like you recommend? We are arriving at costa maya end of January and never been to this port/city before! I really did want to explore after our excursion! anyways thanks for the tips!

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  4 месяца назад

      Hi, yes I believe they did have snorkeling but we didn’t do it so I can’t tell you much more than that.
      In our experience, they weren’t pushy about us going to a specific beach club but we also just accepted whatever they were telling us without much thought. We didn’t really know what we were going to. In retrospect, however, now I would have preferred to just ask the taxi to drop us off at the beach without committing to any beach club. Walk around and pick the one you like instead!

    • @EatBailaTravel

      We will be honest we have never gotten health insurance here in Mexico but now that we might have job and live here full time we will get insurance. A consult to see a general doctor at a pharmacy it’s like between 2-4 usd. To see a specialist it ranges between 20-60usd a consult

    I was in Costa Maya right after a Hurricane. Definitely looks different. Funny how many people flock to the port drug stores to buy Viagra & Cialis. They bring a suitcase full back to the US to sell, to pay for the next cruise.✌️

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  10 месяцев назад

      that's the case in just about any tourist hub in Mexico 😅 the number of pharmacies on one block in Playa del Carmen (all with posters promoting their viagra and steroids!) is nuts lol

    • @Byron4RollTide
      @Byron4RollTide 10 месяцев назад

      @@EatBailaTravel Each Person can bring back $750.00. So if you have a family of 4, kids included that’s $3000.00. That’s a lot of Viagra & Cialis in Mexico. Basically pays for your next cruise.

    We just had went through a hurricane when we got to Costa Maya. We were the only cruise ship docked at the port. Half the people stayed on the cruise ship puking from Sea Sickness. I remember walking around Costa Maya and the Mexican Military was carrying automatic weapons protecting us. Even on the beaches. I’m not a fan of Costa Maya.

      All tourist areas love scamming tourists. I went to the Bahamas once, I rented 1 umbrella and 2 chairs for $50, gave the guy $60 and he never gave me the change, they were also selling unlimited drinks from a gallon of milk. I didn’t buy it but the person next to us did and they got a tiny cup and every time they went for a refill they were push to tip per drink. lol. That was like 10 years ago and I’m sure it got worst now.
