Went to Costa Maya in November 2024. We explored just the cruise port. I would never go there again. There were quite a few skin care shops where their employees were aggressively pushy to try or buy their products it made it extremely unpleasant. They would stand outside insisting you take one of their skincare samples. If you take it they try to convince you to go into their store where they deceptively try to get you to try more products and I understand that if you try it they will then make you pay for it when they make it sound free. When we refused the lady started shouting at us "Don't you care, Don't you care?" she was referring to don't you care about our skin not to be interested in their products. This was not just at one store it was all the skin shops.. It was really awful. They bullied people to try to get them to buy.. Then we walked by the area where the flamingoes are. I felt so sorry for them. One looked very sick. And they have them in a very small man made concrete pool, no food in the water all day. Very unnatural. If they open their wings you can see their wings are clipped so they cant leave the area. They did not act normal. These birds are not being treated well. We had wanted to go to the aviary but seeing the flamingo's completely put us off from going. I'm sorry this is not a good review. but the experience was awful. If we went on another cruise and it stopped there we would stay onboard.
I have a thing for Flamingo's so I would probably find a seat near them and watch them for entertainment! Thanks for sharing your adventures! I like people watching too!
We always took a cab to Mahahual the fishing village 5 minutes away. Pool water looks suspicious...next trip we're staying on both ships (B2B) Voyager and Jubilee in the nice clean oft circulated water onboard! LOL

@@FowlerFamilyFunDefinitely need to check it out IF you can handle the "retro gaudy" vibe and under 3000 capacity. You don't get the "bling" overload. Yes, there are limited dining options for free or specialty. That's not everyone's preference. Our adult kids (25/31/25 this year) like the low key relaxing vibe. For a seven day it is TOTALLY great. We had so much fun on the Legend in 2023 with them. And our daughter in love is NOT a Carnival fan. Maybe it was because it was a "family/friend" cruise for a celebration. But go in knowing it's not glitz/glamour "WOW" and feel the experience. There are tons of things to do. Easy to get around. Just sitting at places listening to music, trivia, etc. TOTAL decompress mode. PLUS the atrium and glass elevators mid and aft, PRICELESS.

My goodness. Thank you for this. I was wondering what to do at this port, but now I see how much fun it can be without booking an excursion. I checked the port schedule for that day and only two ships are in port when we go. Thank goodness for that.
Hey guys, Tampa here. I sail out of Tampa on May 11th, and will be in Costa Maya along with Harmony OTS. For me, two ships are too many, and Harmony will probably be busy. My plan is to taxi over to Mahahual for a couple of hours and check it out, than back to that last pool you showed on your video. Less quiet, but a tad pricy for a lounger. Thanks for the video, and am looking forward to getting out of town, whether I get off the ship or not. I sail out of Tampa often, because its so convenient for me, 10 minutes from the port. I was just in Costa Maya at the beginning of February 2024 on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas and I couldn't find their second pool area. I guess I just walked around in a circle because i didn't see the flamingos. There were 4 ships there when we went, also, so it was crowded.
Yeah you have to walk through some of the buildings at the end and it puts in the second area of shops and then the pool is at the end of the second set of shops
@FowlerFamilyFun Yeah, we didn't do that. Plus, our ship was leaving at 2:30pm and we didn't get off the ship until close to 11am. Next time, I'll go a little further in the port to see the other pool. I saw videos on the port and knew there was a second pool area, but didn't walk that far.🤷🏾♀️😄
They got a lot of land to extend the port area - right side of the port. They can make a water park ( include - NO price) / adult pool area - 18 & older / and some other stuff.
Yeah we kept an eye on our stuff a lot of the time. There are lockers at the dolphin encounter not sure if it’s only for people who use the dolphin encounter or anyone

Think of it like this at the pool one chair = one drink. So if you want to use a chair to lay on or put your stuff in you have to buy a drink. The drink is 15-18 dollars for the chair. I think you can actually get in the pool for free as long as you don’t sit in a chair.
Has that back pool area always been there? We've only been there twice. We just hung out a little and went back to the ship. The second time my husband didn't get off the ship because he had mobility issues so I just met him back on the ship and hung out there.

LOVE the Spirit Class from Carnival. Just need to go on the Pride and have the full Spirit Class Ships complete.
I have not taken the spirit class yet. The miracle and legend are both cruising out of Galveston at times this year so I may take one of those.

You can rent golf carts outside of the port entrance. I recommend the "red shirts" or Mayahual Red Shirts Golf Carts.

We love Costa Maya! We sometimes stay at the port and sometimes take a taxi to Majahaul. Can't lose either way!

Is there any butterfly 🦋 excursions or nature trail excursions there? Everything else seems like a big tourist trap with the shopping.
There are a lot of different excursions to choose from. Not sure about butterfly but plenty of trails

In 2022 we rented a golf cart to drive down to the Beach and it was crowed there as well. I think Costa Maya is limited in space for Cruisers

No this was the first week of Feb. our cruise was Feb 3 to 10 I just put the video out in March

No each pool is different so if you spend time at two different pools you have to buy the drinks twice
