Tops out at 94. Predictable. Sure he gets a lot of Ks, but when he isn’t perfect gets squared up. Bigly. Guy has had to be massaged his entire career. They used him perfectly last year. However, a guy with win totals of 11 ( this season), 8, 8, 7 in his last 4 seasons demonstrates that he is not an ace. Can’t go deep enough to save his bullpen. Fragile, excuse making guy. Some obvious talent, but it, his career, is what it is. Another genius front office move, paying an aging pitcher after his best season.

The Cards need to wake up from this little nap they are taking and play like they're in the playoffs. I think that the bigger problem is that the guys aren't hitting baseballs and they continue to fail at making conversions when there are players in scoring position. You have to help your pitchers out, especially if they're in a slump. That first game against the Royals a few days ago was a perfect example of what clean hitting can do for your team. Mikolas crapped the bed and they still won. Something needs to change if they have any aspirations of being the wildcard team and it needs to happen now. The era of "being patient" is over and I'm getting tired of hearing it.

  • @brianr4214
    @brianr4214 29 дней назад

In addition to not being able to control the running game , actually, it's even bigger. It's horrible pitch framing , a catcher needs to get the HP Ump in his corner. Don't try framing a pitch 6 inches off the plate , move it only and inch or 2 and freeze it.
Its a ball make his job easier. Then when its an inch or 2 off, move it only an inch or 2 and freeze it. Get that call. If its a strike on the corner if ya move it , move it only an inch and freeze it. Ya can't move the mitt 6 inches . The ump isn't stupid. And im not exaggerating. Can we hope Yadi is willing to give these tips to our catchers ?
I look at it as trade secrets , not likely.

  • @brianr4214

It's The Cardinal way , ruining players.
They want a strikeout pitcher to pitch to contact, and the end result is Thunderous bombs being launched by otherwise .240 hitters with 8 HRs.
They want every player power hitters or not, to swing for Home runs and elevated launch trajectory. Leading to more strikeouts and more pop-ups because there's less chance of hitting into double plays with guys on.
    Strikeout pitchers strike men out.
It's their strength. Mozeliak, Marmol, Blake and Ward screw players up, and it's why only fading aged players being offered a bunch more than they're worth sign on.

JD, it isn't that hard to figure out given the age of our starting pitchers and the history of Mo with pitcher decisions. Gray is more than likely beginning to enter "Adam Wainright, Part 2" territory.
Jordan Walker? He may be an alright guy, but he is not helping this team, and his very presence again in the locker room is detrimental to team morale. He did nothing in AAA to warrant being called up, and we just got rid of Carleson because we had too many outfielders. So why bring Walker back now? Mo and Bloom are in full panic mode with no plan. They must be relieved of duty. Keep Marmol, until we see him able to manage the team on the field without Mo's influence everywhere.

Please say it with me... HE IS NOT AN ACE and he NEVER will be an ACE! In fact this might go down as the single WORST free agent signing in St Louis Cardinals HISTORY! Sonny Gray will make 30 million next year and 35 million the following year. If the Cardinals EMBRACE A FULL BLOWN rebuild... they will need to flip him and pay probably half his salary. He will be untradeable. BTW Fedde is also NOT an ACE he's a below average pitcher, Gray is at this point an average pitcher. Miles is a #5, Lynn is a #5 and Gibson might be a decent #3. This team has three #3's and #5's. Look at the Pirates two #1's. Its easy to obtain more #5's hard to get #1's. The Cardinals are headed to a full rebuild or you could compare Cardinals to Nazi Germany in 1944. The war is over too many blunders, just save lives by surrender nope hold out until the last man. Cardinals are headed in that direction they won't admit its over, they won't spend their way out of the mistakes, they keep making more mistakes, and they need to rebuild. Afraid of losing their fans they continue this bandaid approach of trying to be good enough to be relevant. Just throw in the towel and rebuild or the 3rd richest owner in baseball needs to pony up and add 50 million to payroll budget. One or the other.

The starting pitchers suck but they also have an unbalanced offense. Baseball imitates art like a band or motion picture everyone has a different role to play. As for the Cardinals offense, every batter’s approach at the plate is focused on the home run. A balanced offense contains contact hitters, speed and power hitters. The problem with the Cardinals is everyone wants to be a power hitter. The results are a frustrating and boring offense.

      2011 cards weren’t mediocre!
Once they traded away head case Colby R and solidified the pitching staff they were unstoppable!

Who knows, this average club, could still make the playoffs.
Far too early to give up.

What’s up with Gray is nothing new. Look at his 11 year long career. 8 of 11 years have been average. Why did the Cards give a big contract to a guy with a career ERA of 3.51 who has been under 3 three times in his career? He has had 2 good years with 14 wins but that was when he was under 25. He will be 35 later this year. He also has pitched over 30 starts a year only 5 times in 11 years. He is not an ace or a work horse. The best thing I think he has going for him is a good BB-K ratio and he’s better at home than on the road where his XBH allowed is weak. Seriously, is Gray really worth 75MM over 3 years? 🫢
