Letting you know now, there’s not a single “poor” track on the entire album. The musicality of every song is next level and I’d love your insight on each one of them.
There’s not an average track either
This is like jazz mixed with hiphop mixed with p-funk mixed with RnB. That's insane
The instruments are what’s sticking with me after every listen. .Paak’s drumming is incredible throughout. Every key change, instrument breakdown, and harmony is precisely placed. I’m excited for you to listen to the rest!
I've seen people complain about the length of this album. I'll take quality over quantity any day.
Plus, there's actually 18 songs on the album because you can't not listen to it all over again once it's done.
Lolol
Bruno Mars albums have always been short!
@@Khaled91 Exactly. He takes his time and only gives us the best. No filler songs. Not saying Bruno is MJ, but Thriller was only nine songs too I think.
This is not a Bruno Mars album! Anderson .Paak AND Bruno Mars = Silk Sonic. I don't get why people don't get that! It is An Evening with Silk Sonic, not Bruno Mars 👀
Back in the day vinyl albums rarely exceeded ten cuts and 40-45 minutes. Partially because the more songs you add in, the grooves (physical lines cut into the vinyl, not the vibe of the song) need to be compressed tighter, increasing the risk of needle jumps. And partially because a royalties cap that the labels put per album sale. The more songs you include in the album, the less you make per song. Not sure if that's still in today's contracts though.
Definitely an album of the year contender for me. Not a single wasted second on the entire record
They managed to make you feel like you were at a concert without actually physically being at the concert..... That was absolute genius. Fly as me should be included in any high stakes Heist movie soundtrack from now on... It's just perfect for it. .. piece of advice if you react to " put on a " take a deep breath before you say anything after the song finishes trust me you're going to need it
You are so right !
All the full album reactions I've been watching, someone shoulda told them to have a large beverage and towel handy because THIS album right here? Be wearin' a MF OUT!!! 😲🕺😱🥵😭🎰🎲⛸️🚀🛸💀☠️ You really do feel like you just came from a concert in the comfort of your home/car.
As someone who's played garage band / ghetto studio with a bunch of my mates in the past, I can't stress enough how good the insights here are! We need more inputs coming from real musicians on how these tracks are put together. The tension, breathing, weaving in and out of notes, the groove, these are little things that are hard to explain but just have to find the right words to paint a visual in your mind. Appreciate your work!... and yes, Silk Sonic doesn't miss! Their tracks are lit as!!!
Bruno said that's exactly how they wanted the album to sound, like a show! Especially since they couldn't perform live during the pandemic Check out the fire Silk Sonic interview with Ebro on Apple Music
I listened to the entire album 3 times at work today 😬. Next thing you know, it’s over. Transcendence is how it is described best.
I love it too dude!
So cool that you mentioned immediately that the album is "like a show". In a recent interview they did they mentioned exactly that. Because of the pandemic, and tours being cancelled, they holed up in the studio and wanted to make something that essentially felt like being at a live show. Nice observation, expect nothing less from Big Daddy Dave.
Big Daddy Dave… I like that
Yes. I've literally just watched that. They mentioned it was due to lockdowns and never performing "live" again. Great interview.
YAAAAZZZZZZ! BeBop the precursor to HipHop!! Hornplayers and scatting vocalists used these rhythms to compose and improvise. This group uses all elements of all styles slathered in soul!!
SLATHERED!
I look forward to hearing your breakdowns of Silk Sonic cause no one does it like you. There’s a level of appreciation that actual musicians show this project. I loved everything about this album. Anderson’s rap cadence in this song reminds me of skee-lo’s “I wish.” (I wish that I was a baller). The album is so, so good!
Charles Cornell might review the whole album too
That's a great call on possible reference for this track. I totally hear that.
During this time of my of pandemic and injustices, this music is refreshing. Real musicians!
Put on a smile is my favorite off the album. Might be their next single.
Its a hard deccision in my opinion after last night
i love the way this guy listens to music, its so fluid and animated. i can tell he clearly appreciates and loves music so much
When I hear the horns come in all at once, I hear tower of power “what is hip”. Yup- my band teacher from back in the day was obsessed with tower of power 😂 we would listen to their tracks all the time during band practice.
Looking forward to your commentary with the rest of this album! Such a wonderful experience!
every musician loves what is hip lol, or they should. Rocco was a stud
THANK YOU* I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT " TOWER OF POWER ."
The way that the chorus starts, it somehow reminds me of Rare Earth "I Just Want To Celebrate" for some reason. Maybe a bit of EWF's "Shining Star" with the horns is what else I picked out. But no matter how many old school records you pick, nothing will sound exactly like this, and what's what I dig about this record. Great reaction, and thank you for doing these reactions!!
Literally not a miss on the album
I need to see this Album Live😍 I say see because I have to witnesses this with my eyes and ears❤️
Love how he’s so caught up in how good the song is he can’t decide whether to jam it or play on the keyboard alongside
GREAT reaction!!! And kudos to you for naming the other contributors to this great music! Everybody needs to take a bow! FYI... Bruno's trombonist, Kameron Whalum, is a member of The Hooligans, and is the nephew of saxophonist Kirk Whalum!
Dude now I’m just pumped for you‘re reaction to put on a smile, that shit is just on a completely different level. Appreciate your work and musical expertise, that’s what reactions should look like😁
David, I appreciate your insight on the musical aspect of the tracks!! You have years of musicianship behind you and a well-trained ear, but it’s still easy to understand for someone like me that doesn’t know much about chords! But I know the history, and this song is straight Parliament with a dash of Meters! I also think the little bell sound in the chorus and at the beginning of the song is a sample from Cutie Pie by One Way, it’s a beautiful interpolation to just…catch your ear. That’s why you focused on the simple riffs, those just stick with you just as well as a great chorus hook. This album so many great built-in hooks in the music itself, and that’s so valuable. Can’t wait to see the other reactions!! 🔥🔥
I love that mentioned the rhythmic phrasing of bebop Music in this track. I noticed it when Andy sang the lyric about the 1977 Monte Carlo. Fitting all those syllables in a small space
We uses to only get 8-10 tracks on an album and the artist would take their time. I love this.
This album has got to be up there with the best I’ve heard, the musicality, arrangements and just the variation in the songs making them not boring, but the fact that they all still fit together. Absolute and pure genius, will be listening for a while to come.
I truly wish I could bottle your review. You really make us appreciate this music more. Bruno and Anderson coming together was sent from heaven.
That is such a great explanation of groove! I am a dancer and my main style is Locking. In Locking we maintain the groove when we dance. They way you explain groove is simple and effective. I will most definitely using your example to my students Mr. David! I love your channel and keep up the awesome work!
Hey David! This is usually NOT my type of music. I’m a rock/metal gal through and through. But this stuff is SO fun! Makes me dance.
And, as always, Higher by Sleep Token
Sleep Token is such a gem. Telomeres is a 10/10 track
Yes the break down was SO effective lol you were like the only person who picked up on that! It’s my fav part of this song !
Loved your reaction! My ears really perked up when you mentioned the space between the notes. That's something my friends The Wooten Brothers play with all the time. World renowned bass player Victor Wooten and his brother Joseph Wooten speak on just that. ❤
I love Wooten!
@@MusicShed the brothers are not just incredible musicians but wonderful people. I'm so excited to finally be visting with them in Nashville in December and hearing them live again since the pandemic began. Joseph Wooten has a new song on RUclips titled "Nashville" you may enjoy it.
It's a mix of old music and modern music
It's so difficult to explain but fucking wow
Really enjoy watching you react to Silk Sonic. The next song After Last Night is probably my favourite so im excited for you to react to that one
That song has a Parliament/ Funkadelic feel definitely. This track has a "Jungle Boogie" Kool & The Gang vibe as well. Wonderful reaction.
It’s Neo-Funk that’s exactly what it is man I love that the older generation gets to see this
You mentioned Parliament. Bootsy always says it’s on the 1 and this is a great demonstration of the heavy 1
I find your keyboard interpretations of what's going on in the song the most enjoyable part of the video.
When you said this album is a "show"; that's exactly how Bruno and Anderson described this album in their recent interview. Said the intent was to create this as a show cos they can't perform live at the time they started recording during the pandemic.
I’m so glad you mentioned bebop. That “triplet feel” that Anderson Paak does is very in the style of bebop. What a great observation
the extra boost on the low end at 3:28 is crazy. Only people with good headphones or monitors will be able to pick that up. Smart move by the engineers
Also, thanks a bunch for the mention of Bebop. That's something I feel I should've picked up on myself, but you made it click in my brain.
Your analysis is so consistently good. All you need to do now is listen to "Ready Wednesday" by Bill Laurence in the near future. You'll love all of it, pinky swear.
I love listening to your review. .It's so educational. I don't even know music I just know what sounds good to me. This entire album is amazing.
Been waiting for the reaction of the rest of the album. Your (musical) reactions truly are the best!
It's Andy on the drums (except track 5). Sooooo good.
Track 4 too
@@SriLankanStuff all tracks, except 5
Man I love watching your videos and how you critique them! I love good music and you make people feel what you feel…God bless you sir and keep doing what you’re doing!!!
These guys have been my introduction to this style of music. I’ve mostly listened to Rock and Metal growing up, but man this just scratches an itch I didn’t know I had, and now I need more like it haha!
If you dont catch yourself dancing to this ..or feeling like your transported straight into a funk masterclass ..reminiscent of soul train ..yet so relevant and so Soooooo many layers of musical genius
... then get your ears checked out. THE WORLD NEEDED SILK SONIC.
Amen
Nailed it with it sounding like that P-Funk vibe.
I truly ENJOY your reactions!!!!!
This whole album is AMAZING but this song has the hardest groove going and I ALWAYS move when it comes on. I love your reaction to this and am learning so much about the layering of the music and production. Keep up the good work!
I always wanted to mention that I really appreciate your editing... Always a pleasure to see and listen, great work! Howie, you're the man!
I knew that once "leave the door open" was out, I knew without a doubt the album would be just pure 🔥. every track has its own specific influence.. fly as me has that "rare earth" influence, and skate had that "spinners" influence.. these two did their homework and incorporated today's style with ol skool and it shows
the first time i heard this i instantly realized how similar it is to shining star. they took HUGE inspiration from earth wind and fire
I love seeing your unbridled joy when the music kicks off - that's how I felt too when I first heard this. There is SO MUCH to take in musically, so I'll need to listen often to hear it all. Love your review 🙂
I absolutely love your energy! LOL Great reaction all the time! I enjoy the breakdown of the music as well. Thanks!!!
Your pure reacting to the music when being heard for the first time… I relate heavily Lol
The next one is probably my fav on the album, I bet you're gonna love this one too ! Great video friend 🥁
I love it how you express yourself when reviewing music lol it’s funny and entertaining. 👍
Perfect Men for the Perfect Album ! It´s a masterpiece
Omg....you are SUCH a joy not just listen to (your gems re music interpretation!) but to watch! Your appreciation and organic reaction to music makes me feel as warm & full and as you were by the end! Music shed addict here!! ❤🙌🏽🏅💯
The amount of knowledge and respect to the music you have is such a delight to watch. Keep them coming. I hear a lot of what you're breaking down, but don't know what they're called. So, it's awesome to also be learning as well.
Viewing this made me appreciate this song a lot more than my initial impression 👍
My parents had A LOT of records. They had P-Funk, Earth Wimd and Fire, and the Bee Gees. They would have ruled 70' and start of the 80's. BUT, we need them NOW more then ever.
Love your reactions and your musical expertise on instruments and musicality. After Last night is really really good. The whole album.
Thank you for talking about bebop I’ve been trying to think of what this has reminded me of since it came out! Love your reactions i always get such a great insight into how artists get inspiration! Love it absolutely
Dam just realized you playing it at 14:49 sounds like the chords and intro to OutKast's Roses🔥🔥
You gotta react to “Put on a Smile”!!!!!!
SN- Wanna teach me how to play the piano???🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Seriously!!!!
That timing and feel comment is spot on! I say something similar to my dance students.
You remind me of my highschool music teacher. He knew I couldn’t be bothered as a teen to learn how to read music. So he taught me to use my ears and taught me how to teach myself. Your mannerisms are so similar.
From the uk 🇬🇧. Keep the vids coming
Conclusion, groove is when the drummer has a good time.
Amen
Your advice on writing helped me so much right now ! I’m always so in my head about it. Thank YOU!
Write, write and write. Turn the editor and critic OFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Bro, i can watch your videos all day, your love for music is pure inspiration 🙏🏼
Bro!
Great point about Bop & rhythm being of equal importance as harmonic melodic, if not more important. And yes it’s space that crests funk. Trombonist Cameron’s name is pronounced, ‘Whale-umm’. He’s in Bruno’s band & is the younger brother of famed saxophonist, Kirk Whalum..
Been waiting for this since last week! ❤️
Music Heaven This is real talent not just someone on a laptop with a beats 'APP' and calling themselves a artist'
The "I don't ask for much" part reminds of of EWF
Love the reaction! Had to subscribe!
“I cannot soil my ears…”🤣🤣🤣
I LOVED hearing you talk about "What is Groove?" to me, I get James Brown & EW&F vibes with a touch of Kool & The Gang. This whole album just takes me back in time to when music was funky and melodic. This is my genre, Soul/RnB/Jazz. I really enjoy listening to you disect the music and playing the keyboards. Keep up the great work. Peace, Groove & Love To You Too 🎼🎶🎵🎧🎤🎹
yes! but early Kool and the gang.
@@davidmorgan9286 oh yes of course!
I get so much James Brown on this and 777. Super funky!
Still wait for "blast off" and "put on a smile"
This is much needed 😍
I love his passion... LOL
🔥👍🏾💪🏾
"Soil my ears" lololol
The video was released 12 Hours Ago and doesn't have a dislike yet(Currently at my case). You're doing good my friend!
Love your reactions! It must be great to be grounded and trained in music theory yet have the ability to venture outside the envelope.
Love how you tried to pause before the chorus but couldn’t resist the gratification haha!!
WOW!!!!!! The way you play that keyboard and how fast you catch on to the music is amazing!!! I was born in the early 70s and raised on this kind of music. Each song reminds me of different songs and artist of the 70s. Silk Sonic hit on a lot of different sounds of that era. I could hear that Barry White/Lou Rawls musical style in the song "skate" and I could hear that undeniable Bootsy Collins sound in the song "after last night". You could tell Bootsy had a lot to do with the music in that song. The song that I hope you review is my favorite on the album which is called "put on a smile". THIS SONG IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! When the music started in this song, I Iept to my feet off my couch and started jumping up and down yelling "THATS IT, THATS IT, THATS IT, THAT'S IT"!!! Crazy thing is I was acting this way and the music had literally been playing for only about 3 maybe 4 seconds. I heard the sound that fast. There's a particular sound that my generation heard back then that we associate heavily with R&B music and that song hit it perfectly. I knew the sound as soon as I heard it. The music of "Put on a smile" puts me in the mindset of the music in songs such as "wildflower" by New birth and "I wanna get next to you" by Rolls Royce. Its a sound that we stopped hearing in music right around 1980. I could name other songs with this sound from the 70s but this post is long enough. Haha. To the younger generation that love this CD, please listen to some of the funk and r&b music of the 70s. You'll hear where much of this CD is coming from. 👍😃
And by the way, did I mention how good you are on that keyboard!!! Keep on Rockin' brotha!!!!! 👍😃👍😃
much love
pleassee react to the rest of the album, you're so fun to watch and I learn so much!
Every day this week!
Drop all the videos!!
Will master david survive "after last night" and "put on a smile"?
I'd love to see his reaction
I can't wait to see him review "777" .. his funk meter will explode after hearing that track
Me toooo❤️❤️❤️
I'm a fan now. Bruhhh love the way you react.
mwa bruh
@@MusicShed thanks for noticing. 🥺
If Bernie Mac(S.I.P.) hadn't passed on, I'm sure that they'd use 777 in the soundtrack of the next Oceans movie. I can see them using Fly As Me on it too.
I..Love....love...LOVE that you dropped that Kendrick Lamar reference +1000 PTS..GRYFINDOR!
That is one juicy album.
And Anderson .Paak has written with and played drums for many great musicians in addition to Bruno Mars: Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, J Cole, Q-Tip, Christina Aguilera, Andre 3000, Smokey Robinson, Brandy. He played the drums on stage at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, Eminem, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar.
I’m here and I’m ready!!
That’s what she….
Real horn players, who knew that was still a thing!!!
Right?!
Bootsy!!! On the one y'all!
Best reactor!
That pre-chorus sounds to me like EWF Shining Star.
It's that James Brown groove!
