The band in the back is Bruno's band The Hooligans, and Im pretty sure that is his bass player Jamareo Artis on the bass. It's kinda hard to tell but Im pretty sure that is him. And this song is the most Anderson song on the album for sure. It sounds a lot like stuff off of his Malibu and Ventura albums. And like someone else said, Andy and Bruno wrote and worked on all the songs together, Bruno didn't just bring the songs to Andy. One thing I love about them is that their live performances could serve as music videos cuz they're so good. Every single award show performance, including this, is just so fun and so well done that they could just release it as a music video.

The bass player is Bruno’s bass player for over 10 years Jamario Artis. The others are also Bruno’s group for the same length of time including Bruno’s brother on drums

So a couple of things. Andy and Bruno met on Bruno’s 24K magic tour. AP and Free Nationals opened. They hit it off and snuck off to the studio to work together. After Bruno finished the 24K Magic tour two years later, he called up Anderson and invited him to the studio to work on some of the stuff they started when they were on tour. Bruno said that he was really struggling in the studio and when he did the session with Andy: “Andy set the studio on fire!” Bruno realized that Andy was a serious STUDIO drummer and it is Andy’s drumming on every song on the album, except Smoking Out the Window. Many of the songs that they worked on where ideas or undeveloped songs that Bruno had, so it is true it leans towards Bruno’s style. Andy’s work is more raw, more fluid, doesn’t play by the rules of classic songwriting. BUT it has a definite AP groove and influence through the drumming and many of the lyrics. The 70s R & B is absolutely where Bruno is at his best and where he probably always wanted to be. He said in one interview: “We love this shyt!” And they weren’t worried about whether it would be commercially successful as they were working on it. They just wanted to make what they both thought was good music. They key is that they had FUN in studio, but also are first-rate musicians, songwriters, producers AND performers. Imagine having the two best performers in the business come together to put together a show and you’ve got their Vegas residency where celebrities and others are flocking from around the world and leaving the show saying “it’s the best show that they have ever seen.” I went to the show and agree. Sat behind an older white couple (late 50s) from Minnesota who were jamming and know practically every word to every song. They have universal appeal and that is what we need right now.

This was their performance at the doul train awards. It is Bruno's band with the exception of the trumpet player which is Maurice Brown from the free nationals. The bass player is Jamareo Artis.

I watched the Grammys bc of BTS but they caught my attention (don't bash me, i know they're huge but i don't live in America and don't listen to radio so I was missing Anderson big time, i only knew Bruno)with their performance. They were so energetic, you can't to take away your eyes from them and the feeling they give you it's of pure happiness, like an energy shot.

Nice reaction. Bruno met Andy when Andy opened for Bruno on the European leg of the 24K Magic Tour. They are both on the Atlantic Record Label. They used to get together in studios in Europe during their down time. Bruno helped write a song for one of Andy’s albums and they started writing Smoking Out The Window. During the pandemic, Bruno asked Andy to come to his LA studio where they finished writing SOTW and proceeded to write the songs for the album. Please react to 777 from The Grammys.

"I'm on the bus and freaking Bell Biv DeVoe is playing" - yes! That is the exact vibe why I started listening to Bruno. It brought back the 90s that I had missed so much. He is really the only artist over the past 20 years whose music (and really, VIBE) I could REALLY get into. Then, along came Silk Sonic and with Andy, it seems like Bruno could take it up YET another notch. Put On A Smile is my favorite SONG from this album (it is one of the best songs I've EVER heard), but Fly As Me is my favorite JAM. And yes, the choreography is definitely something one needs to learn and then perform each time one does ANYTHING and this track comes on. I do - in the kitchen doing the dishes, in the car driving, it really doesn't matter. :)

Anderson toured with Bruno, supporting for the 24 k 'agin tour on the European leg. In that time they got together in studios and worked together. One of the songs is on Anderson's album. Smoking out the window started first four years before completion of this album. Not sure who the bass player is, doesn't look like Jamario who's been with Bruno forever, nor D'Mile who played bass on this track.

Not sure where that story came from about how they came together. If you check any interviews they gave, they always talk about 2017 tour where Andy opened up for Bruno on the 24k Magic tour & they started hangin, realizing they liked a lot of same music. Got in a studio & started messing with the ideas for Smokin Out the Window. Did their respective’thing’ individually for next couple years, & then came pandemic 2020. Bruno invited APaak over to studio on his birthday sayin, ‘Let’s finish that song’. He came by & it spiraled….short version.

Great reaction! I love the fanning out. A couple things: based on interviews with the guys Bruno had a few “hooks” like this hook, and Put On A Smile, but they wrote together with D’Mile most tracks and maybe Brody Brown, perhaps some others here and there. And Andy came up with the groove for some of these tracks and they went from there. His drumming is throughout and if you listen to “Come Down”, “Tints”, “Make It Better”, “Put Me Thru” by Anderson .Paak, you’ll see how recognizable his sound is and how this does indeed sound like him. Silk Sonic is a perfect blend of both artists even tho some songs seem more like either of their typical styles.
