My great grandpa was part of Haleakala. I was not expecting to hear his voice this morning so this was a pleasant surprise as my heart has been aching for Lahaina and all of Maui. Thank you for uploading ❤️🙏🏽
Was your great grandfather Mokulani Young? I was one of the two recording engineers (with the late Herb Ono) for this album and still love this song. Imaikalani Young was like a brother to me. They were great musicians and wonderful people. ❤
Thank you thank you … mahalo!!!! For posting this. I grew up hearing this song & heard my family singing it back in the 70’s & 80’s and then it vanished off radio stations. For a moment I tried singing it to family & friends but no avail- I thought it was a Mandela effect 😂or something & I’ve been hunting for this song for decades, until today! I’m so excited to hear it & show it to everyone especially in a time of need. Yes I’m a native from & of Maui from many many generations from Kula, Hana, Wailuku & Lahaina. MAHALO for bringing the magic back into my life with this beautiful classic song🌺🙏🏾🤙🏾🚂⛵️🐋 xo
I lived and performed on Maui and across the islands during the 90's. My first home was in Lahainaluna. Besides performing in places like Blackie's Bar, Longhi's, Pacific 'O, The Pioneer Inn and in several other venues along Front Street, I hosted and directed for a time KPOA's nightly broadcast "Jazz For A Night In The Tropics" programming from 8-1 in the morning from their "Fishbowl" studio at 505 Front Street. Henry Allen, Sam Ahia, and Gabe Balthazar were among thegreat friends and colleagues whom I performed with in shows and concerts. I am no longer with Maui, but Maui and the Aloha I shared with so many remains and will remain with me always. Maui No Ka O'i!
Heard this song this morning and started crying but it’s so special. driving through my home town and grieving for my home. This song makes me think of all the beautiful memories of my home Lāhainā.❤
OMG thank you!! That’s my daddy. Kammy the Serrano and the 4 part harmony arranger. Love and miss them all! Great album!
