The DR-Z400S is a motorcycle that’s the foundation of the modern DualSport movement. Starting with the DR350S and then again with the DR-Z400S, Suzuki made fun, reliable, and capable motorcycles available to anyone who’s ready to take a ride down their favorite off-road trail or ribbon of asphalt.
Riders will be impressed with the amount of torque coming from the 398cc, liquid-cooled powerplant, as well as the crisp handling from the adjustable suspension. This ultra-reliable bike is completely street legal, with an electric start and easy-to-read instrument cluster. The black and gray bodywork with contrasting black, silver and yellow graphics make the bike stand out on the road, on the trail, or even when parked.
Whether you're on the highway or on a twisty forest path, the Suzuki DR-Z400S can't be beat.
The DR-Z400S offers the following features (basic differences from DR-Z400E):
    • Compact digital instrument cluster with speedometer, odometer, twin-trip meters with addition/subtraction capability, clock, timer and stopwatch functions
    • Smooth throttle response with a MikuniT BSR36 CV-type carburetor fed by 6-liter airbox. • The left side cover has quick-release fasteners for easy access to the air filter
    • Reduced compression ratio (12.2:1 to 11.3:1) for operation with 87-octane fuel
    • On-road legal lighting with bright 60/55 watt halogen headlight, compact tail/stoplight, lightweight, rubber-mounted turn signals and horn
    • Thermostatically-controlled cooling fan mounted to the left radiator helps maintain consistent operating temperature in traffic

As a European, I am surprised the DRZ is still sold anywhere in the world. It disappeared from the European market somewhen in the 19th century, because it didn't comply with the Victorian emission standards.

I own and ride a DRZ400S and have ran it for the past 6 of the 7 years I've owned it. Recently changed the sprockets to a 15 in the front, and 39 in the rear and it REALLY does not need a sixth gear now. Quite a cheap upgrade to, also makes the other gear ratio's longer which makes it much smoother to ride 👌

    • @toddkurtz1468

@@toddkurtz1468 you can play with being on and off the clutch in first and unleash it at your leisure, if your clutch cables are well lubed then it's not so tiring in the wrists. I geared my 400S to 15/37. It'll go 100 mph highway (actual speed 93) and 1st gear is fine for BDRs and Colorado jeep roads up to 13,000 feet elevation, which is how I use it. It's too heavy to be a real dirtbike for single track. For that I have a 300 cc 2-stroke.

Rumors only. There is no R&D required. It sells. In fact my buddy just bought a 2023 SM. And prices for used ones are in some cases more than new. I bought my 2011 in 2012 with a few miles on it from a dealer....out the door was only $4200. You still cant find a 2011 for that price. Also extremely reliable with over 54,000 miles and runs better than new.

For suzuki to sell the 23 and 24 model drz in Australia (I own one) they had to omit the toolkit, and reduce the fuel tank capacity from 10L down to 7L, IOT reduce the weight of the bike, bikes in Australia under a certain weight, and classified as an Enduro do not require ABS or to meet some other standards. Are Australia making rules even more strict from 25?

Suzuki really needs to stay in the game, especially in California where you can only ride (basically) emissions compliant dual sport bikes off road now if they are newer than 2021. Perhaps the 400 and 650 have too much overlap and they will introduce a 300 to compete with the Kawasaki - or just partner up with them again for some badge engineering.

My prediction is fuel injection, a switchable ABS, and if we’re lucky, revised transmission ratios. I doubt we’ll see a 6th gear. The other items would enable it to stay in the Australian and American markets, and maybe would enable a return to the EU market. I hope so!

So you think the whole DRz400 line is going, "Bye bye"..... not just the "SM" model? Interesting as I was thinking about getting
one. IF true, I hope it doesn't cause the used prices to jump up.... then I would never get one & if they do close up on this they
will always have parts to fix them.... that will remain strong b/c how this bike was grandfathered in & stayed the course.
They've changed little so it's all been a money maker for years on end. Sad to hear this. peace
