I am a 76 year old female, and I owned a 1965 chevelle malibu convertible just like the one in the video. I bought it myself because I fell in love with the design of the car, and cars, at that time, were the “big thing.” It had a 327 cubic inch engine, 250 horsepower, 4 barrel carburetor, and Positraction rear. It was the best car ever!!! I encouraged my son to keep his first car, a ‘92 Mustang GT, which he still has, because I wish I still had my Chevelle. I have not ever owned a car that I enjoyed as much as my chevelle. I wish all of you could experience the car fun of the ‘60s.

Love these steel wheels. Looks much better than the obnoxious big alloys people always want to “tune” their car with nowadays.

That's awesome. I owned a '65 Malibu SS. It originally came with a 283 mated to power glide.
I bought it from a mechanic who dropped in a 350 from a '70 mated to a TH350. It was a cool car,

I bought my wife one almost exactly like this back in '74 from a Banker in Spokane WA. Ours was red with red interior and white convertible top. It was also a "327" with 4bl and dual exhaust.
You keep talking about the "396" version.....but must realize that those were ULTRA RARE (201 made). So rare that I've never even SEEN ONE, let alone ever talked to anyone who's ever owned one.
Ours had the black paint on the back of the trunk, (from the factory) and had a factory console tach and factory "SS" Wheelcovers which were much better looking than the "dog dish" caps on this car. I took off my SS covers (and saved them) and then put on a set of "Keystone Klassic" mags and slightly jacked up the back end (as most of us did back then). We had a clean '65 Mustang Convertible just before the Malibu but in reality, it wasn't half the car the Chevelle was. Our Chevelle floated and handled down the road like an Impala (very tight car). Here is more info on the '65 Malibu Z-16 from Super Chevy Magazine------> www.superchevy.com/features/sucp-1012-z16-chevy-chevelle/

So beautiful regardless of what's under the hood. Don't get me wrong the Z16 is definitely my favorite.

My grandparents had a 65' Malibu 327 4bbl automatic, after I got my license I took it for a drive, it must've never been floored because when I nailed it clouds of carbon came chokingly out of the exhaust. After a few more kickdowns it started running great.

I love how understated this car is. Hubcaps with not a bunch of fake crap all over it. Thats the one you put a 427 in. And leave lookin the way it does. A sleeper!

My kind of car. Clean and simple. Nice it came with a 4 speed.

Sweeeeeet. Yeah, the 396s were hot, but rare, and the top end 327 rated at 350hp was said to run "just as fast"... well, probably not quite. Nice to see a 327 though, even if it's just the 250 horse.

Is the convertible manual or power?

Not a huge Chevy guy but I've heard that the early Malibu's and Chevy II's with the L79 327/350hp and a 4 speed were a pretty popular choice for drag racers because of the small block's great power to weight ratio in a small, light body. And the Biscayne 2 door post was the choice for drag racers who wanted Chevy big block power

Really nice car although the ultra rare Z16 is the king of 65 Chevelle Malibu's

Perhaps it wasn't the fastest Chevelle on the block, but it still managed to leave the factory with a 12 bolt rear end.

Madeira Maroon is NOT code N1...true, Madeira Maroon IS code 'N', but the '1' refers to the White convertible top. Was hopin' this was an L79.....nuts!
